another one of my drawings, but this time fopr my favourite pokemon of all that is better than any other, arcanine. I tried to go for the detail to make it look sort of calm, hope it's worked. it looked pretty smudged though, but it's my technique of shading.

the drawing is below. once c+c get given to me I shall work on improving, then in the end colouring it in.

I don't like it, to be honest. I can go over proportion first. Planning a Pokemon, or any creature's size relative to its other body parts is important. By this I mean that, for instance, the head of a creature shouldn't be too large compared to the rest of its body, or it's eyes shouldn't be on its forehead. I'll get to positioning and using the correct sizes to draw Arcanine first. Usually when I draw, I use the head of the creature to measure other body part's relative size. For instance, is Arcanine's body twice as long as it's head, or 2.5 times? Etc.

I took an official artwork of Arcanine and measured it's head.

So there you have it. The original arcanine has a head about half its height, while the Arcanine you drew almost had a head a third of its height. So that goes to my first point; position body parts and put them in the correct proportion.

A few notable errors I can already spot without going down to precise measurement:
    - The tail of Arcanine is far too small.
    - The face of Arcanine is out of proportion. It's eyes are awkwardly placed, etc.
    - The paw closer to me is shorter than the paw that is farther from me. (Rule: Given that two things are the same size, the object closer to you will always be larger.)
    - The two tufts of hair on Arcanine's front paws are leveled differently.
    - Arcanine is too skinny. It's stomach area and limbs are much more bulkier. It's hind legs start almost in the middle of it's body. Also, remember that legs do get bigger as they get closer to the body. Don't just make two straight lines for legs!

Alright, I'll be going onto the facial arrangements, so I'll be using a different Arcanine pic more similar to the one in your pose.

This is an Arkeis image by Aragornbird. It is unofficial, but the proportions were done rather nicely. Okay, let's take a comparison. I've sized down your image to about the height of Aragornbird's.

See? Some of the facial features you've placed on Arcanine were quite far off. Positioning the creature you draw is all about comparisons. Notice how the eye is below the ear, while in your image the eye is above. Notice that the nose and snout are much smaller in your picture.

And about shading, there is pretty much no difference between the light color of Arcanine's beige hair and it's much darker orange fur on your picture. It all looks the same! The Orange parts should be much darker than the beige parts. Also, when you're drawing a picture, it is always best to use a sharpened pencil for clear and precise lines and strokes. They also look much better for shading.

Nice job for the positioning, but the upper part of the head should be lower blc the eyes are closer to the mouth and the tail is a bit too small. But you did achieve it to look calm so kudos to you. You might want to try to make the upper part of the mouth jut out a bit more
