Jinzo is banned, yet people still run 5-8 traps in their decks. Traps to me, are Tier 2 cards. They can destroy mostly anything. Yet people are still limiting the traps in the decks. Lots of Uber cards are banned...yet i think people are still fearing them...tell me an answer....Why are people still frightened by banned cards? Sure Yata and CED are banned... but people still devise ways in their decks to simply stop just one of those banned cards? Could anyone help me out here? Why are people still defending themselves against banned cards?

Jinzo is "not" banned. People have reason to run less traps, actuaully in this meta most people run more than 5 traps. People put cards in their decks to counter different things, not to counter banned cards. If somesne maindecked Call of the Grave in avdanced format, then that would be countering banned cards since it's effect involves a banned card. Nobody is frightned of banned card, why? because they are banned. It depends on how you see the card. Like My body as a Shield. That can counter banned cards like raigeki, but can also counter Dark Hole and Torrential Tribute in this format. Just because a card can counter a banned card, it does not me that it is there to counter a banned card. Cards have more than one uses.

Cards that can stop banned cards can obviously stop a lot of the currently popular cards as well, as Zaikiro explained already.

Cards that can only stop the banned cards are no longer played. The best example is Big Shield Gardna. Since Nobleman is down to 1, Big Shield Gardna is also unnecessary. Asura Priest's usage also went down because there is no need to call him to wipe out the goats anymore (and to some extent, this affects Airknight Parshath too.)

Then there are cards that see play because they are needed to "replace" the banned cards. Magical Merchant is played because Magician of Faith is restricted, while Pot of Greed and Graceful Charity are banned. There is a lack of drawing power, revival of magic cards, and the power to dump monsters into the graveyeard. Magical Merchant is found to be the best candidate to try to replace these 3 banned/restricted cards to the best of its ability. Since Book of Moon is gone and there is a need of new cards that can protect the field, Sakuretsu Armor/Bottomless Trap Hole/Waboku, and to an extent Enemy Controller, are coming back.

I personally always see ban lists as a sign that everyone is going to scramble for new cards in an attempt to recreate the effect of an old, banned card.

True, but 1 one thing Big Shield Gardna is still playable The most atack your opponent will have in this format is 2400, unlike last format with the highest atack 3000.

Magical Merchant can't fully replace it them though. Airknight Parshath still recives play also. Espacilly in top 8 decks, same for Big Shield Gardna.

Sometimes, it's not good to replace banned cards.

The problem with Big Shield Gardna is this

Opponent's first turn: magic/trap facedown, no monsters, end of turn

Your turn: (Big Sheild Gardna) facedown

Opponent's turn: Special Summon Cyber Dragon, Summon D. D. Assailant.

Then most of the time it's Cyber Dragon crashing into Big Sheild, then D. D. Assailant finishes it off, as the opponent still have 2 monsters out on the field, and one that is ready to suicide into whatever's going to be played next. The addition of the Dark Realms further promote special summoning like that too.

Magical Merchant obviously can't fully replace them, but it's the best duelists can do (so far.)

This format's attack is safer to say 2300. Mobius and Jinzo are the only 2400, but there's the 2 dark realms at 2300, Goblin Attack Force/similiar stuff at 2300 as well for Anti-Dragon especially Toon Goblin Attack Force. Chaos Sorceror is also at 2300. Horus lv 6 is also there. As Dark Realm draws closer, it'll be safe to say that at least for a month when the Dark Realm fans die down a bit, your standard will be 2300.

Airknight does receive play. It's just not as much as before. Instead of 2 Airknight, now usually you got Mobius + Airknight.

    The standard traps are:
    Sakaretsu Armorx2-3
    Bottomless Trap Holex2-3
    Dust Tornadox2
    Call of the Haunted
    Torrential Tribute

That's because they just work. Those are the only traps need so that's why most people use 6-8 Traps.
    :D
