Er, I thought it was more along the lines of a PG-13 thing...

No big loss for me, anyway. I watched it on some anime site, since Hulu doesn't work for Canada.

I sadly have to say that most of the fandom has been watching a "R-rated" program all along. TT^TT

Actually, it's more around the PG-13/TV-14 levels, but then again, Funimation executives have probably been watching too much South Park again, just like they apparently did a lot when dubbing Shin Chan, as you probably know, people tend to get obsessed with South Park easily and then copy off of it (especially from the SP Movie, Bad Fur day anyone?)......

It has been a sad, sad day for me that people will be missing out to this great series.

I can't believe they turned it into a Dead Baby Comedy

Home to the majority of Dead Baby Comedies like Family Gay Guy and South Park as I said above

True, very true, it is actually more around the lines of PG-13/TV-14, apparently, Funimation has done the exact same thing they did to Shin Chan with Hetalia, by turning something as crude or slightly cruder than/as the Simpsons into the vulgarity level of South Park, perhaps this is because "Shin Chan" sounds too much like "Sh*t Chan" and "Hetalia" sounds too much like "Hentai" (which is actually what most of the fanart of APH is, seriously, go to DeviantART, search "Hetalia" and see what I mean)

I hate to admit, but I do not really like Hetalia

I also heard they were going to use accents in their dubbing. If this is true...

    GREAT SUCCESS!

At least that there's a good sign......

Well, I would go with that. But at least with this rating there won't be any censorship. :D

Was there violence in Hetalia? XP
And since when did it propagate from the controversy that preceded it? Most of the fandom just watch it for fun and love of history.

Do you even watch it and get past the antsy fandom? And Rule 34 applies to all anime series duh. >____>

    Well there we go~

At least that there's a good sign......

Can't wait to buy the DVD~

...Eh, I don't know how I feel about this. APH deserves a PG-13 rating, but I'm not opposed to a TV-MA one. If this means funimation increased the vulgarity, I'm not really bothered at all.

I also heard they were going to use accents in their dubbing. If this is true...

this alone would make me watch the dub. ♥

I've never watched more than five episodes and I don't think I found it that crude? Then again I also don't see what's so good about it other than people like shipping the countries like they breathe oxygen. XD

I dunno. In this modern day and age the 5 minute bite sized episodes make t very easy to watch. So maybe that's why people like to watch it? XP

And yuh, most people in the fandom are fangirls so the shipping goes crazy. XDDD

I shipped my Hetalia OTP (America/Canada) long before Hetalia existed. I just watch it because it's funny and because the 5 minute episodes do wonders for my attention span. Any other anime (as in, the typical 24 minute ones), I have to pause once or twice to do something else because my mind wanders. :\

    Anyway, adding a more constructive comment... I'm not sure what's so mature about Hetalia that warrants such a high rating. o_O; I'm curious to see what they're going to do with it now that I think about it. ._.;

The Japanese version with English subs that is, considering how adult swim turned Shin Chan into South Park, and I :t359:utely HATE South Park to no end because of how it brainwashes everyone into thinking that vulgarity is funny, and because of that show, my mom calls the channel "Profanity Central" (Which it basically is thanks to SP)

Also, Rule 34? Oh god, I hope taht you are not talking about Anon and how it thinks everything should be profane because of how it watches South Park all the time.......

Either way, I think Hetalia should be rated AT LEAST TV-14, instead of having Eric Cartman brainwash Funimation into making it a Dead Baby Comedy, just like he did with Shin Chan.....

Wait you were talking about South Park?

    Sorry then. :3

My heart sings a little whenever people link to TvTropes. XD

I... haven't actually seen Hetalia. I just had to pop in. But hey, Hulu. I may get into it yet.

How are most of the fans watching it for "love of history" when they're all too willing to overlook the historical aspects in favour of shipping the countries like they breathe oxygen, to quote Dave over there? Besides, they're also the same kinds of people willing to buy into Japanese historical revisionism, such is their Japanophilia.

That said, I'd love to see just how Funimation can make Hetalia vulgar enough to warrant a TV-MA rating and how they plan on going about with those accents, if only out of general curiosity. If it's on Hulu, then sure, why not?

Oh, I'm pretty sure they can make it pretty vulgar. ADV films made Gakkou no Kaidan a pretty vulgaric one, and it's a kids' show.

Frankly, I don't think it matters what it rates. It's not like kids under the age of 13 will watch this lousy anime, anyways.

I was thinking it should be at least a TV-14 rating. I am pretty shocked that it is TV-MA, but I guess they want to be safe than sorry. There are a lot of adult themes going on with that anime. I really wanted to watch it too, but I never had a chance. Now I will get that chance. I am glad that the voice actors are going to give the characters the accents. This is going to be exciting. :3

Well, hopefully Canada and America will have the same voice actor again, being twins and all. n_n I'm hoping for no real accent but saying "eh" a lot. (I will be a bit disappointed to hear "aboot" instead of "about" though since I have never heard it said that way except when Canada is being mocked. xD)

As for the rating, I was thinking it over and it might just be because of the subject matter--not the content. :/ Remember how Hetalia was originally supposed to air on Japanese television in addition to the web stream? It didn't because Korean news raised a huuuge fuss of it. It was too much of a liability to put on TV lest it offend someone (because, honestly, personifying countries into pretty men is going to offend on top of stereotypes which offend pretty much everyone).

So it might not be a clue that they're going to overload the anime with vulgarity or sexual content. Maybe it just means they're covering their asses going into it by saying "okay, this might offend. don't watch unless you're prepared for that" or something? idk. :( We can hope.

Pffft. You always know how to get under people's skin. :P

Meh, I just think that such things always come with a fandom. I mean I see other people gusing over a particular series all the time. Not just this one. :O

Yeah. I can't wait to see how the dub works. XD

This, pretty much. It also doesn't help that the series screams yaoi possiblities, so there you go.

Didn't know they were going to dub with accents, though. I'd love to hear what they do with Russia and Poland's voices.
