Thought I'd put my own personal opinion on the new series from the first few episodes I've seen. The reason for this, is how much I couldn't stand the Ash/Dawn/Brock generation, all the series included. A quick look into my history of watching the Pokémon anime, is from when I was around 7/8 (Can't remember my exact age of course) when the original series came about. I watched them all until around half way through the last Johto series, partly because I grew up a bit, mainly because Yugioh seemed pretty cool at the time. Eventually I lost interest in all of it.

Four years a go, I got back into Pokémon after buying a couple of the old GBA remakes and decided to watch all the episodes I missed. I watched them all and caught up with the Battle Frontier series (When released in UK) and eagerly awaited the new DP series. Disappointment followed, I understand it is a kids show, but watching it made me feel frustrated and angry at how it was. I didn't watch any of the episodes, but did keep an eye on what happens through the forum.

Thankfully it finished, took it's time though. Black & White comes out, loved the games and the new era sort of vibe about it. I watched a few of the new episodes, and I didn't have the feeling of anger and frustration at it. I didn't want to punch them every time they talked about type dis-advantages when it's been on for over 10 years. Don't get me wrong, I did see some of the flaws in the few episodes I've seen so far, but it is a kids show.

I see similarities in this series, from the first series, but differences also. I think you all know what I mean, with the Gym leader joining the group, 'chemistry' between Ash and Iris. Finding an abandoned fire type, and a water type deciding to join him. Although, not exactly quite like Squirtle and we're all used to the idea that Pokémon just love to join Ash. But, I don't need to worry about what's going on, what's stupid and what frustrates me when I can actually sit there and watch it for once. And if I can sit there and do that, then the show must be doing something right.

Overall, I wouldn't say the series is brilliant as it's just begun but I wouldn't say it's bad either. One thing is for sure, for me and I'm sure for a lot of the older people watching. It has definitely caught our attention for the first time in a while.
