3rd Gen Berry Update Program (4 ways)

The only option I have for updating the Berry Program for Pokemon Saphhire/Ruby is through using a Pokemon Emerald, LeafGreen or FireRed version game to do it as indicated on the above link. But the problem I encountered was having an Error on the Sapphire/Ruby that says "Unable to update the Berry Program.", unplug the gamelink cable and turn of the GBA.

What's the issue with that? Is it the the Sapphire/Ruby game pak itself or the update on the FireRed is faulty? I'm actually planning to have the FireRed replaced back to the store and if possible, bringing with me the gamelink cable - if the retailer will be nice enough to lend his GBA sampler unit for this concern and checking the LeafGreen and Emerald, then I can give it a try..

Need help and advise with this if you have tried this option.
    Thanks!!! :D

Once they are connected, power on the "1P" system. When the Pok?mon FireRed/LeafGreen title screen appears, hold down the B Button and SELECT
Based on what I figured out from that, the purple end of the link cable should be plugged in to the FRLG side. That's just what I guessed from the "1P system" part.

I have no idea what the "1P" system is though. I'm guessing it's the purple end, but if that's the case, then only the FRLG end will be turned on and not the RS side. Because of that, I don't understand how it can update with one game turned off.

    Soo...

Try it with the purple end of the cable in the FRLG side and/or the RS GBA off? The second suggestion seems asinine even to me...

I suppose it could also be the cable itself. Does it work normally for things such as trades or battles?

EDIT: I just sorta tested it myself. Here are some more detailed directions.

    1. Connect the two GBAs together with the GBA Link Cable, the purple end in the FRLG side.
    2. Turn FRLG on, but leave RS off.
    3. Go to the main menu and start the Berry Update process.
    4. When it tells you to, turn on the RS side and press START+SELECT on the RS GBA at the same time.
    5. Follow the rest.

Yeah. It is kinda odd if RS is off but then the FRLG will not respond.
    Here is what I did:
    1. the cabling of the 2 units correctly. FRLG (1P) then RS (2P).
    2. FRLG title, then SELECT + B (followed the instructions).
    3. turned on RS and pressed select and start simultaneously. (Game Boy logo appeared without the Nintendo (C) Logo on it)
    4. FRLG transmitted the patch or update to the RS as it is showing on it.
    5. RS: Nintendo Logo came up blinking red orange for 4 secs.
    6. RS: Preparing the berry update program, then...
    7. RS Error: "Unable to update the Berry Program.", unplug the gamelink cable and turn of the GBA.

That's it. So it did connected and transferred the patch to the RS but it failed to update the berry program. Note: This is both the Ruby and Sapphire I have.

Didn't work at all. I tried to exchange the 1P and 2P cable but obviously it did not work. Power off/on. uplugged the game pak even when if the GBA is powered up. Fortunately the game saved is intact.

The Link Cable is alright since I can still link for battle and trade. Working fine.

    So, any other suggestion?

*points to my edit* It's rpetty much the same thing though. So...no...I have no other ideas.

Well sadly, I have to return FR to the store then and give the LeafGreen and Emerald some chance of getting the bug fix.

I'm actually just on the Pacifidlog still - on the goal of acquiring the steel pokemons on Route 134. But now and then, I'm always worrying about those berries, the Lottery that I had once only and the Berry Master's Wife.

Sigh. Anyway, thanks for the reply! Appreciate it.
