I have a plan for one of my Pearl team members. When I can, I want to trade over from Gen 3, a pokemon with Guts & Facade, and give it the Toxic Orb. Then it can raise hell as what I like to call a "Kamikaze" physical sweeper, as he is risking himself for max sweeping effect. (Exploders also fall into this category). Only problem is, which pokemon would be best suited for the job? I mean they all have good & bad points. Machamp, Ursaring and Hariyama have good attack, but bad speed and no way of recovery. Heracross would be an OK choice, but still, no way of recovering from the Poison damage. Swellow is a top contender with good attack, great speed, normal-type (for Facade STAB), and Roost. But it's his movepool that lets him down. He has nothing to hit steel types.

So who do you guys think would be best as a Kamikaze sweeper?

i want to run ursaring with flame orb for guts. he has good HP and a wide variety of attacks... plus, you don't get to see him much =P

I wouldn't use a Flame Orb, as being burned halves Attack, cancelling out the Guts boost. You'd basically have your HP sapped away every turn for nothing. Toxic Orb + Quick Feet (which is basically Guts that raises speed) would make Ursaring a better Kamikaze sweeper, I think.

Anyway, could someone please answer my question?

being burned halves attack? wtf, where the hell did you hear this from?

Yes being burnt halves your attack by half. Didn't you know?
Giving it a Toxic Orb is a good choice.

did you think i wouldn't read that?

    1. that page is outdated.

    2.
These abilities include Guts and Marvel Scale. When the Pokemon with this ability is inflicted with Burn, Freeze, Paralyze, Poison or Sleep, a certain stat will increase by a multiplier. The effects of these abilities are cumulative with regular stat modifiers - that is, a Pokemon under the effect of Guts can still use Swords Dance three times to boost its attack.

they didn't mention anything about burn statuses cutting attack in half. that's just silly. burn, like poison, do what they do: they reduce HP every turn. until you show me proof that says otherwise, i will not beleive it.

Burn lowers attack, but if a pokemon has guts, burn DOES NOT lower attack.

If you look in the Stats section of the page under "Attack," it does say that burning halves Attack (by stat multiplier.) But anyway I didn't start this thread to get into this argument so this is what I suggest you do to settle this:

When you get a Flame Orb, give it to a guts pokemon and see how much damage its attacks do. Then give it a Toxic Orb and repeat (making sure you attack the same pokemon). If the Toxic caused more damage than the Flame then burns do halve attack. If not then fair enough.

Now can we please get back on topic?
