Chapter 1 ~ Pallet Town​

"C'mon Torchic, we're going to be late!" I told my little bird Pokemon as we ran through the streets of Pallet Town.

The two of us were late for a meeting with the profound Pokemon professor Samuel Oak. We had woken up late and had to rush out of my home all the way on the other side of Pallet Town to reach Professor Oak's lab in time. I barely had time to get dress, but I had to miss breakfast which had taken its toll on Torchic and I for I was getting tired a lot earlier than I regularly would.

We ran up the last hill and saw Professor Oak's lab was just a stone stair set away.

"We're almost there Torchic," I panted as I collapsed to my knees and tried to catch my breath.

I looked behind me to see Torchic on his belly in exhaustion. I didn't think Torchic could hold on, so I picked him up and carried him in my arms. I still didn't have my breath back, but I forced my way up the stairs in a run. It seemed to be the longest and hardest climb of my life and it was only a medium size set of stairs.

"We did it, we made it," I proudly proclaimed as I continued to pant.

Torchic was still tired and was breathing heavily. He hadn't been used to running that fast, but it was forth it because we made it in time.

I walked inside the lab still holding my tuckered partner. It seemed empty, but I could hear voices behind a door on the opposite side of the room. I could only assume that the other trainers were behind that door. I walked through the room to the door and opened it slowly. The door creaked as it opened and inside the room were Professor Oak and two other trainers. Both who I knew well seeing as Pallet was a small town were everyone knew each other.

On the left was Trenton, my #1 rival. His hair was dirty blonde and medium length. He wore an orange, black and white plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and denim blue jeans.

On the right was my best friend Dakota. His hair was tidy and brown with small bangs that were swept to the side of his face. He wore a long sleeved black shirt and dark green cargo shorts.

"You're late," Trenton told me explaining the obvious which annoyed me.

"At least I'm here," I replied with an annoyed tone.

I walked towards the two of them and stood in between them. In front of the three of us was Professor Oak, one of the greatest Pokemon professors of all time. The three of us would be traveling around Kanto under his guidance, which was a great honour.

"Where was I? Oh yes, it is time for you three to choose your starter Pokemon," Professor Oak signalled for us to walk forward.

The three of us stood in front of a white case that held three Pokeballs behind a glass wall. Professor Oak pressed a red button on the side of the case which opened the glass wall.

"Dakota, you may choose first," Professor Oak told him.

Dakota peered inside the case. His choice was an important one and he didn't want to make a mistake in choosing the wrong Pokemon. But he also wanted to choose one quickly so our journeys could begin.

"Dakota, you're so slow!" Trenton rudely told Dakota.

Professor Oak shot Dakota a dirty look which made Trenton stop and turn serious. Dakota picked up the Pokeball on the right and returned to his original spot. Trenton stepped forward and chose the ball in the middle. Then I grabbed the last ball on the left.

"Okay boys, I won't keep you. Good luck," Professor Oak told us as we ran out of the lab to begin our journeys.

When we reached the outside of the lab, Dakota and Trenton threw out their Pokeballs, releasing their Pokemon. Dakota's Pokemon was an orange lizard with a yellow belly and a flame on his tail. Trenton's Pokemon was a blue turtle with a brown shell and a yellow belly as well as a tail that swirled at the end.

"Charmander," Dakota's Pokemon stretched out his body.

"Squirtle," Trenton's Pokemon spoke as he hid inside his shell.

"Wow, a Charmander and Squirtle," I gawked at their two Pokemon.

I peered down at my new Pokeball that was shaking rapidly. It fell off my belt and hit the ground. The impacted made the ball pop open and released my new Pokemon. My Pokemon was green with dark green spots. He also had a bulb on his back.

"Kyle, you got a Bulbasaur," Dakota explained.

"Bulbasaur," Bulbasaur yawned as he lay down on the grass.

"It looks weak," Trenton taunted me with his words.

"Shut up Trenton," I told him angrily.

"Hey you guys," a girls voice spoke to us.

The three of us turned around to see a girl with blonde hair and brown streaks with a small pony tail. Her skin was tanned and she wore a peach coloured sweater with brown on the shoulders that went down the back of the sweater. She also wore blue jeans.

"Hey baby," Trenton said to the beautiful girl who caught my eye.

It was Zoë, Trenton's girlfriend. Not only was Trenton my rival and mortal enemy, he was also dating the girl I was in love with for my whole life. What made things worst was she lived right next door to me, meaning I had to see her everyday.

"Did you get your Pokemon honey," she asked before kissing him on the check which made me cringe.

"Yeah, I'm ready to go," Trenton told Zoë with a happy smile.

"Ok then, we'll be seeing you guys later," Zoë said with her beautiful, sweet voice as she, Trenton and Squirtle walked away.

I hated seeing them together. It made me physically nauseous and I didn't know how to act around them. I picked up a rock and threw it in the direction they traveled in.

"I know you're angry, but we have better things to worry about, like our next destination," Dakota wondered as he pulled out a town map.

"Right here, there's a gym here," I explained as I pointed north on the map to Pewter City.

"Alright, so we'll head to Pewter City," Dakota decided as he put the map back in his bag.

Dakota and I started walking which made Bulbasaur and Charmander follow. I picked up Bulbasaur and placed hi in my backpack with Torchic so the two could get acquainted.

As we walked, we saw flames coming from the area around my house.

"What's that?" Dakota questioned.

I didn't answer, I just ran.
