Birds' Eye View; Pg13 for mild swearing and violence.
Introduction: Hilo thar, this is a fanfic I've been contemplating for about a week, and I have decided to go ahead with it. This is the story about team Birds' Eye, an exploration team in the PMD world that chose their name because of thier famous accuracy, thier way of looking at situations with a 'bird's eye view', and because one of the members is a bird. But when a strange pokemon appears on the treasure town beach and starts an exploration team with a shy bulbasaur named Marvin, team Birds' Eye begins to realize just how strange the goings on of the region are becoming; for the first time in thier lives, they'll come out of the sky and stick thier noses into reality.

~Chapter One: The Guild's Commotion~
"Sheesh, that was easy! Why'd we have to take a job in Beach Cave? We got through there in like, six seconds. Seriously, I want to do more thrilling rescues 'n' stuff."
Pluto, the nidoran, had obviously not had any fun with the job they had completed. But a job was a job, and Venus couldn't find all that many open jobs when she had checked the bulliten at Wigglytuff's guild. It was a pain to take jobs there; many exploration teams went to Wigglytuff's for their jobs, so there weren't often a lot available. The guild also insisted on taking nine-tenths of the cash earned, making the guild even less desirable to visit. But there were very few other ways one could get some work, so it seemed like Wigglytuff's guild was the best option. Venus wasn't about to explain all that to Pluto, so she tried to simplify it as much as possible.
"We are only able to get jobs at Wigglytuff's guild, and the only way I was able to get us a lot of jobs in the same place was by taking ones from easy, wimpy dungeons. Other explorers and teams already answered the rest."
"Awww, come on! One job in a really cool place is waaaaay more fun than five in a really boring place. Tomorrow we should do one super awesome job, okay."
Venus nodded her head and looked up. The team had almost reached the large pink building known as Wigglytuff's guild where they would meet up with their clients and recieve the rewards. And hand over most of said rewards to Chatot for the guild to keep. With a sigh, Venus looked down at her paws and watched as the little red tips touched down, each one creating a small coud of dust on the road below. The team was awful quiet.
"Um, hello? Isn't there anything you guys want to talk about? It's not even sunset yet so I know none of you are tired so speak up, be happy!"
The cheery voice rung down from above, causing Venus to look up at her tailow teammate; Aeolus. He was always the fun-loving one and the most energetic of the crew, always flying high above the others and giving them their name; team Birds' Eye. Seeing that Aeolus had flown lower as he spoke, Venus took the opprotunity to kick a spray of dust into the bird pokemon's face. Aeolus coughed and retaliated with a blow from the wings- though it wasn't a formal wing attack -and a soft chuckle. Pluto decided there that it was time to stop, and he pushed between the two friends to prevent any more scuffling. The guild was just a few feet ahead and the gate was already open so they wouldn't need to have thier footprint's analyzed.
"Come on, let's go on into the guild and get our money. Then we can head back to the base for some dinner and then we can chat a bit or play some games and then we can go to sleep and then when we wake up it will be the next day and then we can go on our totally awesome adventure for tomorrow!"
Venus rolled her ice-blue eyes. "Yeah yeah, whatever. But as this team's leader I officially declare that you must, from this day on, use proper English at all times. Am I clear?"
Pluto opened his mouth to respond, however he was cut off when the team noticed a wurmple and swellow near the entrance to the guild. A few seconds earlier they had been practicing some moves on a few of the rocks that surrounded the building, but now they were speaking to eachother in low, urgent voices and casting odd glances at Venus. She knew why, and a fiery mass of anger welled up inside when she saw them.
"For the love of all the good in this goddamned planet, you'd think I was a shiny for all the reactions I get from the pokemon around these parts!"
Aeolus hung his head and sighed deeply. "Well Venus, you can hardly blame them. Almost none of the pokemon in this area even know what a zorua is. Remember your first footprint analysis?"
"Oh yes, I remember."

The sun was already high in the sky as Venus and Pluto strode up to the guild for the first time, with Aeolus flying loops and swirls up above. The whole team was very excited about this visit; it was the first time any of them had been to a guild, and certainly the first time they had been to one as famous as Wigglytuff's guild. Fortunately, they already knew the drill- step on the grate, wait for Diglett to identify your footprint, and then wait for Loudred to open the gate. A pokemon in treasure town had told them that.
Aeolus was the first one to arrive, and he nervously descended to the grate and hooked his feet around the bars. The sudden voice made all three jump in surprise.
"Pokemon detected! Pokemon detected! Whose footprint? Whose footprint? The footprint is tailow's! The footprint is tailow's! Your welcome visitor, but there are two others with you. One at a time now, get on the grate!"
Bouncing with excitement, Pluto rushed ahead of Venus and leapt onto the grate, crying out in pain as one of his legs fell through a slot. He quickly recovered, though, and took a deep breath while he waited for the startling siren voice to start up again.
"Very clumsy pokemon detected! Pokemon detected! Whose footprint? Whose footprint? The footprint is nidoran's! The footprint is nidoran's! You are welcome too, but be a little more careful, will ya? Next up, step on the grate."
"That was mean, did he really have to call me clumsy?" Pluto was muttering as he stepped of the grate and made way for Venus who was already waiting on the side. Tenatively, she placed her paws over the hole, making sure that she would not slip, and that her feet were in clear view of the pokemon below.
"Pokemon detected! Pokemon detected! Whose footprint? Whose footprint? The footprint is... uh... well... quite frankly I have no idea what this footprint is."
Just then, another voice sounded, one that was obnoxiously loud and peircing. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FOOTPRINT IS? YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO IDENTIFY THE FOOTPRINTS, SO SPEAK UP! WHO. IS. AT. THE. DOOR?"
"I-I already said that I don't know! Um... excuse me? Could you please tell me what kind of pokemon you are?"
Already Venus was losing her patience and she stomped her foot in frustration. "Good God, I'm a zorua! Just let me and my team into your freakin' guild!"
"A... a z-zorua? Ye-yes ma'am! Loudred, open the gate!"
It certainly seemed vexing that diglett had suddenly changed his mood. Now his voice seemed excited, almost as if he was trying to contain some astronomical amount of anticipation. Slightly detered by the odd reaction to her species, Venus trodded into the guild with her friends only to be greeted by a large crowd of apprentices and explorers, as well as Chatot and Wigglytuff himself. Murmurs could be heard all throughout the room.
"Wow, so it is true, zorua really do exist!"
"Eek! A real live zorua here in the guild? Oh my gosh, this is truely exciting!"
"Hey hey hey, I wonder if she is just visiting or perhaps joining the guild as an apprentice, that would be cool."
"Golly, she certainly looks like a strong pokemon, yup yup."
It was then that it hit Venus; no one around here had seen a zorua, and most had only herd rumors, or had not heard of her kind at all. Venus took in a deep breath. This was going to be a long day.

Back in reality, Venus cast one last glance at the wurmple and swellow before beckoning with her tail for the team to head inside. Both of them immediately obeyed and together team Birds' Eye walked- or in Aeolus' case flew -into the guild and headed down to the first floor. To their astonishment and pleasure, the team's clients were already waiting.
"Well," Venus began, "here I have your stolen pink gummi, Bagon, as well as your stolen grass gummi, lombre." Happily, the two pokemon ran up and claimed their items, as well as handed over a large sum of money as the reward. "And you two," a nidorino and nidorina looked up from their converstion, "how's it going?"
"Oh! It's been going just fine, er, Venus." Stated Nidorina happily. "Thank you for rescuing my boyfriend, I don't know what I would do without him. Here is your promised reward, 1500 P." Nidorina pushed a pile of money over to Venus who quickly gathered it all up in her pack and nodded.
"Well, it was a pleasure doing business with you. See you 'round."
Giggling, the poisin-type couple retreated back up the spiraling ladder and away, just as the other two pokemon had. Venus smiled, happy for them, and turned her attention to the other spiral ladder, the one leading down further.
"Well boys, time to give away ninety percent of our earnings. Hooray." Venus grossly exaggerated her sarcastic voice as she began taking steps toward the ladder. Somewhat reluctantly, the other two teammates followed.
As they walked down, the voices they could hear below began to reveal that this was no ordinary day at the guild. Curiosity killed the cat, but a fox was close enough. Eager to stand around and see what the commotion was about, Venus rushed down to get a bird's eye view of the situation from the background, avoiding involvement and speaking with only her team who were close behind. As soon as she was low enough that she wouldn't hurt herself, Venus jumped down to the ground, as quietly as she could, and curled her tail neatly around her paws, getting comfortable away from the crowd. Aeolus and Pluto followed suit.
It appeared as if all of the guild apprentices were gathered around two pokemon, newcomers it seemed, who were sweating nervously and waiting for the comments to die down so that they could speak. One of them was a bulbasaur whom Venus had seen around town; she believed his name was Marvin. The other was a pokemon that Venus had never seen before; a female skitty who looked injured, as if she had been in some kind of fight. At about the time her analysis was complete, Venus noticed that the apprentices were becoming more and more quiet and the skitty was the first pokemon to speak.
"Uh... hello," she began with a clear nervous edge to her voice, "My name is Maya, and, well, it's hard to say this... but I'm not a skitty; I'm a human." Gulping once, Maya continued in spite of the gasps and hushed comments circulating about the room. "Somehow I was transformed into a pokemon, and somehow I ended up on the beach where Marvin here found me. We have decided to form an exploration team... and we would like to train at this guild."
Before anyone else could utter so much as a whisper, Chatot put up his wings for silence and looked over to Maya and Marvin. "That's it then. These pokemon wish for training, and they shall get it. Do not be rude now, go on! These are just normal apprentices now so the rest of you need to move along. We need to get you two registered, come with me."
Venus watched somewhat dazed as they began to head over to Wigglytuff's quarters before she realized that she needed to hand over the money or else wait for the long registration process to complete. Jumping nearly out of her soft, grey fur, Venus dashed up to Chatot and held out a pile of money- she had been counting it out while Maya was speaking. Unfortunately, Chatot wasn't in a very good mood and as soon as he noticed her he was ready to snap.
"Oh what is it now! I thought I told you all to get out of here and-- oh, Venus, you came to deliver the guild's funds. Very good. I'll take that," Chatot brushed the money closer to himself with a wing, "and you may go now. I'm am very busy as you can see so run along."
Venus bowed her head and flicked her tail, letting Aeolus and Pluto know that it was time for them to leave. With all of today's events heavy in her mind, Venus pawed her way up the two ladders and, once outside, in the direction of their base in the oran forest. At this point, all she wanted was a filling dinner, and a nice warm place to sleep.
