As I'm playing D/P (I'm about to get the fourth badge - I'm kinda taking my time), I'm noticing that I'm not coming across any new pokemon that I really like or wish to train in my party. And I feel that my party is rather boring and since a few of them I've trained before in past games, I am thinking of trying to get some others for my party.

So my question is, what are so rather strong/interesting pokemon that I can get at this point in the game (up to the fifth badge - right before Sunyshore I think it's called). I want to train some new pokemon but I also want them to be somewhat powerful and able to hold their own as I work on beating the game. Any suggestions?

    My team right now:
    Luxio
    Staravia
    Gyarados(had before and bored with)
Onix (had before and bored with)
    Girafarig
    Monferno (my starter)

    Some oldies but goodies!

Bag Onix. The only reason anyone would have him is to get Steelix (a surprisingly effective Physical Wall), and you can catch Steelix in Victory Road, so no use in wasting a Metal Coat. Steelix is decent, though. Outclassed by Skarmory, but highest defense in ANY game has gottamean something, eh?

Gyarados is okay... but hit with an electric move, and it turns into a steaming pile of poop. However, the good Attack stat (and immunity to Ground types) makes him a good option for in-game teams. Someone similar is Cranidos' evolution, which I use. Highest Attack for a non-uber, but piss-poor defenses. I still use him, though, because if he isn't KO'd, he wrecks complete havoc.

Luxio's evolution can be a beast, but make sure all electric attacks on him are physical, as his Attack far outweighs his Special Attack.

Staravia's evolution (Staraptor, I think?) has amazing attack, however his terrible defenses makes me consider telling you to bag him.

Girafarig I'm not too familiar with... so I can't comment. I normally use Alakazam for my psychic, but you have to trade Kadabra to evolve him. Gengar is a good option, too; for a ghost type, at least. Gastly can be found in the abandoned mansion, near Eterna Forest? But again, you have to trade Haunter if you want Gengar. It's a real PITA, but well worth it.

My opinion is: not a bad selection, just make sure you bag Onix for a Steelix. The rest are good, and you really shouldn't be too bored with it! I, personally, have two teams: one for in-game play, and one for competitive battling. So if you're really into it, complete the game with this team, and afterwards (since now you can hunt Pokemon without being restricted), formulate the ultimate team.

Awesome thanks for your advice! I'll try out some of the things you said and let you know how it turns out.

And yeah, I'm just waiting to beat the game so I can transfer some of my new pokemon from FireRed for a better competition team.

    But thanks again ^_^
