Buying things from overseas and import duties

    I heard that in some countries, if you buy something from overseas and have it shipped to your house, you'll be charged duties or taxes (a certain percentage of the price of the goods and shipping). I'm from Singapore, and there's a 7% GST charge on items from overseas worth more than approx. USD 300 in value plus shipping. What are the import taxes/duties like in your country?
