I apologise for my stupid question :paranoid: I couldn't find another topic explaining this, so I thought I'd make a new one xD if one already exists, please delete this topic.

It took me a while to get my head around this whole thing; I read that a Pokemon can have up to 510 stat points through EV training...and after some thinking, I noticed that a lot of pokemon have a lot more than 510 points in their total stats. SO, my question is, are base stats added on top of the 510 I keep hearing about? :\

I bet I sound so stupid asking this :P but I really need it cleared up. Help is appreciated, thank you =]

So I assume, that through your explanation here, you are referring to the fact that on something like Bulbapedia:

So for an example let's take Arceus:

    Base Stat Total: 720
    HP: 120
    Attack: 120
    Defence: 120
    Speed: 120
    Special Attack: 120
    Special Defence: 120

and you asking if these base stats gain the additional EV points?

If this is what you are indeed, asking - to my understanding they've been seperate since the beginning of Generation 3. Someone else will have to probably elaborate, but if you think you can understand it, I will refer you to the page below.

The base stat total is different from EVs. BST gives the Pokémon's strengths and weaknesses, and shows what kind of Pokémon they are. For example, Blissey has a base HP stat of 255 but a measly 10 in both Attack and Defense, so it's considered to be better on defense than offense.

BST, along with the IVs, will also affect how a Pokémon's stats will look at level 100. For example:
    Adamant Gallade @ level 100 - 252 Atk/Spe/4 HP
    22/14/28/17/18/11 (IVs)
    269/365/163/136/253/239

Now, I maxed out both its Attack and Speed, but its Sp. Def. (253) is higher than the Speed (239). That's because Gallade's base Sp. Def is higher than its base Speed. If the IVs were flawless (31 across the board), then the stats would look like:
    278/383/166/149/266/259

Aw man, now I'm even more confused :P
Thanks for the help, though =]

Try not to overthink it. Just know that base stats have nothing to do with EVs, they can just help you figure out where you should put EVs. Beyond that, it's just more numbers that will confuse you :p
