    aye, so i live in canada..so would that mean that the diamond and pearl were getting is the same as our nighbour (America).if so will i be able to play and battel with them...

    and do we need friend codes(u know for batteling and trading and stuff)

    Yeah, they only have three versions of the game, USA, Europe and Japan. They distribute the one that is most similar to your country, So you won't be buying any Japanese version.

    Well depends, You can have friend codes (Max of 32) or you can trade via GTS, but you can only get pokemon you have already seen. And it is possible to battle random trainers at a Wi-Fi place called Battle Tower (iirc).
     
    ^The GTS is for the complete opposite purpose. It's for trading randomly with other people all around the world. Hence, the name, Global Trade Station. There still is, however, a feature that lets you trade with friends whom you have friend codes registered.

    And, as has been answered above, yes, the game will use friend codes.
