[Other] Changing Overworld and Trainer Sprites

Quick question. If I wanted to update the OW sprites in my Emerald hack, would the sprites have to be scaled down if imported directly from Black 2/White 2/Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. I'm fairly certain the OW sprites are the same size as in Emerald, 32x32.

Nevermind. Just came to the conclusion that Emerald sprites are 16x32 rather than 32x32. I can still mimic them to the best of my ability with a sprite editor.

Also, the trainer sprites when you enter the battle. DS games have them in 80x80 while the GBA uses 64x64, so I'm sure those need to be scaled down. Is there a resource for this on the forum or is it simple enough to do without damaging the image quality?

If you're using NSE, you can change the dimensions of the existing OW sprites. I mean, you can't blow them up, but you can change the canvas-size to 32x32 so you can fit your new OW sprites on there.

If you go to the preferences tab at the top of the program, you should be able to find an option to resize & repoint the OW's sprite size.

    I found this

Thank you for this, I'll definitely try to make use of it.

I just realized how problematic this is going to be since the sprites will consume the equivalent of two tiles rather than one, which I definitely don't want. I'll just have to stick with the 16x32. Thanks for your help though.

But another question: I want to edit some pre-existing sprites, but I also want to add some new ones (to add more variation rather than just using the same sprite for 3-4 different trainer classes). Is it simple enough to do this by maybe editing other pre-existing sprites that I won't use or would I need to add them to free space within the ROM?
