Charizards Blast Burn

    This is my Charizard's move set;

    Fly
    Blast Burn
    Smoke Screen
    Flamethrower

    I want to get rid of Blast Burn cause it wastes a turn and it's only useful as a last hit attack in the elite four. But now I'm not sure what to change it to. Any suggestions? While your looking at the moves, feel free to comment.

    Let's see... let's go with the standard Charizard moveset:

    Charizard@Lum/Salac Berry
    EV: 252 Att, 252 Speed, 6 Sp Def
    Nature: + Att, - Sp Att
    Dragon Dance
    Aerial Ace/HP Flying/Earthquake
    Rock Slide
    Overheat

    I have a Charizard that knows Blast Burn! It's a great attack! My Charizard knows:
    Flamethrower
    Fly
    Cut
    Blast Burn

    and he's practically indestructable now. He's never been beat! And this makes me happy. Blast Burn has helped me out many times in battle, and if you switch him out of battle after he uses it to defeat another Pokemon, you can switch him back in at full power after the next turn anyway! The only downfall of this attack is that you can only use it 5 times before going to a PC.

    Blast Burn isn't so great, like other 2 turn moves - yes, it does hit harder than other moves, but it gives your opponent a free turn to attack with. That extra turn can be crucial in allowing your opponent to KO your Charizard before he has chance to attack again.

    EDIT: Overheat has the same power as Blast Burn, and while it does reduce your Special Attack every use, you can switch to remove the penalty. And it doesn't have the one-round delay of Blast Burn, so you can use Overheat and still attack afterwards.

    Yeah, but at the level my Charizard is at, it is doubtful that the other Pokemon will still be standing after his attack. Plus, defensive attacks make you wait just as long to attack, and I find they don;t do much anyway. The only good defensive attacks are ones that make the other Pokemon asleep, confussed, Paralized, Poisoned, or Burned. and still with those, you never know if it will work each time you use it.

    Hmm, sound good. Lucky I kept those TMs. However I think I'll keep flamethrower cause it doesn't lower my stats. Sure you can switch but that wastes a turn. The only reason I kept Blast Burn was because you can switch pokemon automatically once you have taken down the enemy (no turn wasted).

    In game you can switch (a slight glitch in the game, IMO), but under Colosseum rules and things like NetBattle, you aren't granted that cushion of safety. And while Charizard is a fairly heavy hitter, there are plenty of things that can survive his attacks when your opponents are all L100 and they have EV where it counts. A tank like Dusclops can survive 2-3 hits with supereffectiveness, so even without it, a Charizard will have to hit several times to make a good dent, or just Dragon Dance up a few times (but that still takes a few rounds).

    Anything in game can be taken down if you have enough level (even a mighty L100 Wurmple can take on a large amount of the Elite 4). Against human players, it's an entirely different matter.

    EDIT: I only recommend Overheat over Flamethrower cos of the minus Special Attack nature for Charizard. Because of the EV system, mixed sweeping is hard to achieve, so some level of balance must be met.

    Your playing ingame against the league which can't level up ther Pokemon like you do, so you Blast Burning someone in-game counts as nothing. As soon as you face someone either by link up or Netbattle you will see how fast that Charizard faints when something like Rhydon crushes it with Rock Blast. Just because you can beat the computer, doesn't mean its good.

    What do ya have against MY Lv. 100 Wurmple? ;-;

    Anyways, a In-Game Charizard Moveset (Not NB or Anything like that) is:

    Flamethrower
    Brick Break
    Rock Slide
    Aerial Ace

    Yah, but thats just to defeat the E4 >>;;

    I have nothing against it, I was just saying that with enough level, anything can beat in game trainers. Just used your Wurmple as an example :-)

    btw, Overheat is 140 to Blast's 150, and iirc Char doesn't get Dragon dance, did you mean Swords dance? (not sure tho)

    Dragon Dance is an egg move for Charizard. Ok, fair enough, I thought Overheat and Blast Burn were the same power, never mind.

    Ah, my mistake, it gets both via breeding (Dragon and swords), which was what confused me. However, I'd love to point out that Charizard's survivibility is nowhere near as high as the other dancers like Gyarados (who isn't that sturdy anyways, but it does have Intimidate), which means using DDance might hinder it a lot more, since it wouldn't have enough attack to OHKO things, and thus gets OHKO'd in return. IMHO, Swords or Drum is the way to go on this speedy but not as strong Beast.

    Well just to throw my two cents into the ring, I always use my Charizard, and it's moveset is this

    Charizard
    Jolly
    Overheat
    Rock Slide
    Earthquake
    Aerial Ace

    I use Overheat over Blast Burn because I went for a physical sweeper Charizard, and while Overheat does indeed lower special attack, there is no waiting turn afterwards. Plus, since it's a physical sweeper the lowering of his special attack doesn't effect his other three powerful moves. ^_^

    How it a physical sweeper? It can't Dance and its Atk is poor, this is the kind Charizard I don't think people should use =\.

    I had no other choice. By Lv.100 (when I checked) it had hidden power ground, and I'd used Dragon Claw already. Physical Sweeper was my only option.

    Find a FR/LG Move Tutor and get Swords Dance to replace Aerial Ace. There, now you have a physical sweeper.
