A way to IM your friends on the forum instead of having slow post chatting in a thread!

You can also go to a person's profile and leave them a Visitor Message if you don't want to go to the chatroom.

The chat is just a general chatroom, not an individual chat with any one person. But imo an individual chat is a bit too social network-y. It's easy to just add the friend on an outside chatting service. :3

When you click the chat button, you're joining our public channel, #thepokecommunity.

If you get your friend to join as well, you can double-click their name for a private conversation. Or you could make a new channel by typing /join #channelname into chat, and asking your friends to do the same, but you will need a proper IRC client like mIRC.

Mibbit also functions as well as mIRC for this purpose and it's free and doesn't require you to download anything to your computer. You can also join #thepokecommunity from there as well as any private channels you want to make with your friends. :)
