Chapter One: Pallet Town
Maximum Number of Posts: 1

Description
Situated right at the water's edge, Pallet Town is a wonderful place to live. Known for its friendly citizens, numerous fishing spots, and, of course, the great Professor Oak, many people refer to it as the very heart and soul of the Kanto region. Even since Professor Alder moved here from the Sevii Islands to take up Professor Oak's work, following his unfortunate death, many people still flock here to receive their first Pokémon and begin their journeys as Pokémon trainers.

What To Do
All I want you to do with this first post is head to Professor Alder's lab and pick up your starter Pokémon, Pokédex, and Poké Ball's.

-----

The ocean breeze blew through the grass, finding its way to a young man with a full head of brown hair and a pair of dark blue eyes, who was lying on his back. His name was Maxwell, but he was more commonly known as Professor Alder. Upon the man's face were a pair of rimless glasses and he was wearing a pristine white lab coat.

Professor Alder sighed and sat up, turning his head to admire the beautiful view that could be seen from his perch atop Oak Hill. The grassy knoll had only recently obtained that name, for it was the burial place of the late Professor Samuel Oak. The Professor's grave was adorned with countless flowers and cards. Currently there was only a white wooden cross being used as a marker, but Professor Alder was planning on having a tombstone added when he had time.

With another sigh Professor Alder hung his head back and looked up at the clouds in the sky, he loved to take a break from work every once in a while and where better than the Oak Corral? It was such a beautiful piece of land, with all of the Pokémon Professor Oak had collected over the years, as well as ones belonging to trainers. Professor Alder watched the clouds move across the sky and, noting the position of the sun, calculated that it was almost midday.

"Midday!?" shouted the Professor in sudden realisation. He looked down at his watch to make sure he'd calculated correctly and, sure enough, it read 11:52. The once calm man jumped to his feet in a hurry, his face contorting into an expression of panic, foolishness, and anger all rolled into one.

"The trainer's arrive at twelve!" he yelled, reminding his forgetful self as he grabbed a notebook that was laying on the grass next to him and made his way down the hill, heading back to the lab as fast as his feet could carry him.

"Now Namine, don't forget to be polite! Try and act normal, and don't forget to tell the good Professor about us; we want to be of help as well." Namine's mother had said, standing beside the girl's father who merely nodded in agreement. Their daughter nodded, stepping off their porch with a wave.

"Don't worry, I will!" Namine said, grinning. It had been a week since they had come to Pallet Town, and though the news of Professor Oak's passing had been devastating, Namine's parents had already began trying to help Professor Alder. Stepping over to her red bike, Namine gave her parents one last wave before heading up to Professor Alder's lab on the top of the hill a couple houses away. As she passed Oak's Corral, she couldn't help but give a smile towards the Pokemon there. Though she still did not have one for herself, Namine had often taken the time to study Pokemon with her parents. After a few minutes, Namine gave a relieved sigh as she set her bike against the white building. She knocked on the door twice before entering.

"Hello? Professor Alder?" Noticing that the clock read 12:02, she was shocked. Usually he was very good with timing. After a moment, however, her short wait had ended when she noticed the sweating Professor. "Professor Alder? Are you...Alright?" She asked. Had he run all the way back to the lab?

"Ah, you must be Namine!" He said, trying to sound excited though he was clearly worn out. "So you've finally come for your first Pokemon? I believe you'll need a Pokedex and some Pokeballs as well." He said, still rushing due to some previous event. What ever it had been seemed to have tired him out, so Namine raised one of her hands. "Okay, Pokedex...Pokeballs....Ah! Yes, Namine?"

"Professor Alder, do you need some help?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. "You seem....Worn out." At this the Professor merely laughed as he rummaged through a few things as he searched for her supplies.

"No, no. I'll be fine, Namine." He said, turning to her for a moment. "Choose a color, please."

"Um....Orange?" At her response he rummaged through a few more objects until he grabbed a small rectangular object she recognized as a Pokedex. After that, the Professor seemed to have no trouble finding extra Pokeballs before returning with all of the stuff she needed - including the Pokeball containing her first Pokemon.

"I take it I don't need to explain to you what a Pokedex is, right?"

"A Pokedex is supposed to scan Pokemon and give us information on them, I know." Namine smiled knowingly at the Professor. She had often come to help him while her parents were out in the field, so she had no trouble remembering the small device.

"Very well, then. Here are your five extra Pokeballs. Be sure to capture some Pokemon along your way; just one Pokemon cannot defeat the Pokemon League." At this comment, Namine couldn't help but frown. She had some interest in battling, but she had been aiming her sights on becoming a Professor; much like Professor Alder and Professor Oak. "And this," He held out a Pokeball with a small flame on it. "is your first Pokemon: Cyndaquil." Handing the Pokeball to Namine, he encouraged her to release her new Pokemon. Namine nodded and held the ball out and away from her, allowing the red stream of energy to come out and take the shape of her Pokemon.

"Cynda!" The Cyndaquil said in greeting. Although the Pokemon saw that Namine was holding its Pokeball, it had already began walking back to Professor Alder.

"Ah ah, Cyndaquil. Namine," He pointed to her in emphasis. "is your trainer now. Be good to each other, alright?" At this notion, the Cyndaquil immediately turned to Namine....And glared at her. This sent a shiver through the girl, who had fully believed the Pokemon would be complacent. He hated her already?

"Hi, Cyndaquil!" Namine said in mock cheerfulness, reaching out to pet her Pokemon. Her efforts were for naught, as the Pokemon turned away without hesitation. Professor Alder sent her an apologetic look before motioning for her to withdraw the temperamental Pokemon. She did so albeit willingly, though a hint of regret showed in her eyes.

"Sorry about that, Namine. He's just a little...Moody. Yes. Cyndaquil is just a little moody at times. I'm sure he'll come to love you, though."

She sent him an almost seething glare that said she did not believe him. Despite this, however, she looked at the occupied Pokeball with fierce determination. She would become friends with this Pokemon, if it was the last thing she ever did.

Zephyr the West Wind: Very good first post. You captured Professor Alder's personality perfectly and I love that Cyndaquil doesn't like Namine at first, it will be interesting to see their relationship develop throughout the RP.

Namine recieved a level 5 male Cyndaquil.
Namine recieved a Pokedex.
Namine recieved 5 Poke Ball's.

After showering herself, Isis proceeded to dry off her thin frame of medium height and build. She then rubbed the moisture out of her hair, allowing the wet strands to fall to her shoulders, and then dried and brushed it until it was in a suitable enough position for her to wrap a hair tie around it, creating a pony-tail look.

She went over to her closet and removed two hangers, one of which held a grey sleeveless top, with the other holding a yellow miniskirt. The teen dressed herself, before slipping her feet into a pair of yellow-striped purple sandshoes, and casually placed her black sunglasses over her eyes. In the past, she had received criticism from her peers as they wondered why she had come to classes with her sunglasses on, but she ignored them, as it was just a strange mannerism of hers to do that.

After placing her digital watch on the wrist of her left arm, she headed down the hall.

Heading into the reasonably large kitchen and preparing herself a bowl of cereal, she spotted her mother relaxing on the cyan sofa. After eating, she then checked to ensure that her bright yellow backpack with the imprint of a Poké Ball on the side was packed. Finding out that everything was in there, she placed the breakfast bowl in the sink, ran some water in it and headed to the door.

"Honey, wait," the voices of Isis' parents spoke up. The girl's mother rose from the sofa as her father came into the room. The masculine-toned voice had come from Arthur, Josephine's partner.

Saying goodbye was going to be difficult and sad.

"Yeah?" the teen turned and looked at her parents as tears started to form in her eyes.

"It's good to see that you're finally ready. Professor Alder rang and said he wants you to meet him at his lab," Josephine told her, relieved to see that her first-born daughter was finally setting off. Just prior to her fourteenth birthday, Isis and her family had moved back to Kanto.

Isis stood there with a puzzled look on her face, wondering what the researcher needed to give her, but then it clicked. Of course! My Pokémon, Pokédex and Poké Balls... how could I forget...? Isis mentally slapped herself for forgetting such a simple thing.

As she was about to run to the lab, she remembered that this would be the last time she saw her parents before she left. She turned around and looked at them. "Mum, Dad... this is goodbye for now. I'll miss you."

Her mother placed a hand on her shoulder and answered: "Yes, we'll miss you, too. You have grown up incredibly fast, Isis, and we understand that you want to go on this journey."

"Alright, I'll see you later guys."

"Goodbye dear. Know that whatever happens, I'll always think of you as a Pokémon master, because you went and attempted to accomplish your dream," Josephine answered, as she smiled at her daughter.

Just before Isis set off, she gave her mother one last hug, which resulted in the tears flowing.

Wiping away the tears, Isis started walking towards the research facility that was run by Professor Alder.

After trudging along for about ten minutes, she finally arrived at the location of the building. The lab's foundations were on top of a hill that was accessible by a long stairway, which took one to the entrance of the lab. It was a two-story ivory edifice that had a maroon roof, which, from the top, allowed one to view the landscape as far as the eye could see.

There was a lake to the east of the hill and to the south was an untamed forest with no paths. The forest was cut short by an open range, which was met in the north by rocks and boulders. There were Pokémon scattered all over the landscape.

Isis rang the doorbell and waited, because she knew that Professor Alder wouldn't be able to rush to answer the door. The wooden door opened a few minutes later.

"Ah, Isis! Come to collect your Pokédex and Poké Balls, have you?" Professor Alder questioned.

"Yes, Professor," she replied.

"Right this way, then," he answered, as he turned and led the red-haired girl into the lab. The first thing that was seen when entering was an array of bookshelves that were stacked against the wall, stretching from one corner of the room to the other.

To the right were small computers that blinked with all sorts of dazzling lights, with the monitors scrolling down with data that she could only guess was the research that Professor Alder and his assistants had compiled.

In the middle, between the computers, was a rather large door. It was used to go out to care for or to study the Pokémon that were kept at the lab.

To the left was a very large storage room in which the Poké Balls that contained the Pokémon were kept. One could only guess how many were amassed there.

At the top of the staircase to the right of the Poké Ball storage room, the upper level was desolate except for three bookshelves that were lined up against the left wall; an enormous computer that took up the entire southern wall and finally, a small dome which was the place where the Poké Balls were kept.

"Now, Isis, I have a few important things to give you. They are your Pokémon, Pokédex and Poké Balls."

Then, the researcher handed her a large red electronic device, which looked like a calculator, her starter's sphere and five small balls. The Professor allowed Isis the time to register her partner's data into her Pokédex.

"Mareep, the Wool Pokémon – a Pokémon of the Electric type. Its fluffy coat swells to double when static electricity builds up. Touching it can be shocking," the device reported in a feminine-tone voice.

"Let me explain what I handed to you before," Professor Alder began, just as the newbie trainer recalled her starter.

"The large red device that you hold in your hands is what I call a Pokédex. A lot of research by my colleagues and I was done and we were finally able to release a small hand-held device. It will record information about any wild Pokémon, including its type and special attacks. Thus, its pages will be filled."

He then pointed to the five small balls.

"These are crucial to capturing Pokémon, so please pay close attention. If you fail to capture a Pokémon with the same ball five times, it will break. Also, note that you can only carry around six Pokémon with you at any given time."

"How much do these items cost?" Isis asked.

"About three hundred Pokédollars for each sphere… and I think the Potions are a little cheaper," the researcher answered.

"I'll keep that in mind," the red-haired girl answered. "I won't let you down, Professor. I've never been more ready for anything else."

"Very good…" he replied.

She walked back through the building and out the front door, waving goodbye to Professor Alder as she did so. Then, she looked up as she began to walk down the road, away from her house. The sun was now in plain view, almost blinding from where she was standing and the grass was glimmering as the dew dropped from each blade.

Isis' Pokémon journey, as well as the day, was just beginning. She had her first Pokémon, and already knew where she was to go next – Viridian City. Now with determination in her hazel eyes, she continued to look at the sky. As an official trainer, she then looked down at the orb which contained her partner.

"Mareep, you are my key to becoming one of the best," the teen murmured, smiling proudly.

Asher was growing rather tired of sitting atop of his mother's Charizard. The Pokemon was hot and not so comfortable, and Asher had been riding on it for quite a few hours now. Though Charizard was a fast flier, going from Hoenn to the Kanto region did take a while. Asher yawned and continued looking out at the land they were flying over. He did have to admit one thing, he was enjoying the fact that they were mostly flying over land now. When they had been flying over the sea, the boredom had made Asher simply want to leap off Charizard and go for a swim in the ocean. At least now Asher was able to observe the small towns and people as they flew by. Like aforementioned, it was much more interesting to look at land marks than the same water over and over.

Considering Asher wasn't keeping track of time, he was rather surprised to find that Pallet Town seemed to be getting further and further away, rather than closer. Though he knew it was probably just his mind playing tricks, Asher still couldn't help but feel even more restless as the minutes dragged on. He sighed and shifted on the Charizard once more who, in return, grunted. Asher patted the side of the Pokemon's neck for a bit of reassurance, and then went back to his sight seeing. They were passing a rather large mountain range now. Asher grew curious, so he grabbed his phone and checked what the range was. Luckily for him his phone had a GPS, otherwise that would've been impossible. Though he didn't see much about the surrounding mountains, Asher did find out that the really, really big one was called Mt. Silver. That meant Pallet Town wasn't far off, and that made Asher anxious.

Sure, Asher had been anxious the entire week. He had been packing and unpacking stuff for a few days now, occasionally telling Dylan to shut up when the little boy got too nosy. Asher had tried to spend his time by researching some different types of Pokemon. He was already fascinated with water types, something that he didn't feel inclined to mention to his hothead mother. Well, she wasn't really a hothead. She just sort of liked fire types, hence the Charizard. She also had a Blaziken and a Ninetails and something else that Asher couldn't remember back home, but suddenly his stomach did a little flip and he was brought out of his musings. According to his GPS, they had just crossed into the region of Kanto...and it would take very little time for Pallet Town to appear on the horizon.

"You're pretty awesome, Charizard," Asher complimented as the earth whizzed by. "Are you sure you would prefer to be transported back to mother? I don't want you to get hurt on the way back."

The Charizard simply grunted and swished his tail, suddenly dipping into a harsh dive. Asher yelped and clung to the Pokemon, deciding that obviously Charizard would much rather fly home. Charizard, having sensed that Asher got the message, swerved out of the dive and flew to a slightly higher altitude, looking rather pleased with himself. Asher huffed and grumbled something under his breath, figuring that water types were definitely the way to go. Charizard apparently kicked it into high gear after that, because pretty soon Asher couldn't tell trees from people. It only took them another half an hour to reach Pallet Town, and by then Asher was feeling a bit sick.

"Charizard," Asher groaned in complaint as Charizard slowed. The lab was finally coming in sight. "What'd you do that for? I feel like I'm going to barf," he grumbled.

Charizard simply roared in something akin to happiness, finding obvious amusement in Asher's predicament.

"You're mean. I don't see why mother likes you," Asher huffed.

Charizard gave Asher a warning look, so Asher snapped his mouth shut. It was then that Charizard zoned in on the lab, circling it once and then dropping into a dive once more. Thankfully for Asher, however, this time the dive was a bit less...exhilarating. Within moments they had landed, and Asher was climbing off of Charizard. He tottered a bit at first, but then righted himself. Then Asher carefully walked around to Charizard's front and unclipped his bag from the carrying pouch his mother had saddled on Charizard. Charizard seemed rather pleased about being free of the weight, for he stretched his wings out and roared. Asher offered the Pokemon a slight smile, then patted it on the side. Charizard took that as the okay, and then took off. Asher watched the Pokemon soar away for a moment, and then turned to look at the lab.

Asher had heard quite a few stories about the region of Kanto and all, but he had never really imagined it to be as beautiful as it was described. Generally people stretched things such as that, but this time it was true. Asher was quite taken with the nice atmosphere. A big grin appeared on Asher's face as he slug his messenger bag over his shoulder and began the small trek up towards the lab. His stomach had settled (for the most part) and Asher was definitely ready to get this ball rolling.

A quick glance at his watch told Asher that it was almost 12:10. He had been a bit slow, but no matter. Asher knocked on the door and waited, rocking back and forth on the balls of his feet. He was practically bubbling with excitement, but he promised that he was going to restrain himself from babbling to death. That would just be embarrassing, especially when he was getting his very first Pokemon. Asher had to admit, he was in super awe of the amazing Pokemon Professor that was about to give him one. Asher thought about the numerous Pokemon, and kept his hopes on a water type as the door began to open.

"Hello," said a polite looking man who answered the door. Asher looked at the brown hair and dark blue eyes, immediately knowing the description. Well, and the lab coat sort of gave it away too, but still.

"Hello. I'm Asher Lansing. I'm one of the people who..."

"Ah! Pokemon, of course. And was it you who flew in on that rather loud Charizard?" The professor chuckled softly. "It sort of startled me."

"Sorry about that," Asher grumbled. "Charizard's just crazy like that. Good Pokemon though. Oh! Speaking of Pokemon..." Asher trailed off, trying not to be rude but hoping the professor got his hint.

Alder shot him a teensy smirk. "We'll get to that in a moment. I have to give you a couple other things first." Alder led Asher back over to a desk, and motioned towards the multicolored items perched upon it. They all looked like...well, Asher wasn't sure. A handheld computer, possibly. "These are Pokedex. They will gather information for you as you go on your journey, and might even help you out of a scrape if you think to use it," Alder explained. "So go ahead and pick a color, we have quite a few."

"Can I have the black one?" Asher questioned, deciding just to stick to a safe and neutral color.

Alder nodded and handed him the black Pokedex. Asher took it and tucked it away in a side pocket on his bag. Then he looked at Alder expectantly. The professor shook his head in amusement.

"Just one more thing, I promise," Alder said. Then he pulled open a drawer. Asher's eyebrows rose nearly to his hairline; it was chalk full of Pokeballs! "You get five of these to start with. Don't forget to use them," Alder joked lightly. "Otherwise you might have a bit of a difficult time in your journey. I'd suggest to try a Pidgey or something easy to start with. Don't try to capture a Gyarados." It was another joke, but Asher was just in a little too much awe to think about the hilarity behind it. He sputtered, and then managed to compose himself. His excitement was starting to get the best of him.

"Thank you, professor," Asher said. He carefully clipped the balls on five of the six hooks he had spent a night installing on the strap of his bag. You know how Asher had been doing things to keep himself busy all week? Well, this was definitely one of them. It had helped. "Is that all?"

Alder seemed to find quite a bit of amusement in Asher's rush to get to the best part. "Yup," he stated. "You can go now."

Asher blinked slowly. Alder chuckled, saying that he was kidding. He held up a finger and then walked over to a tray that was on a cabinet behind his desk. Asher shifted from foot to foot like a little kid in an attempt to see what it was, but his efforts were in vain. Alder paused for a moment and seemed to think, and then finally turned around with a Pokeball in his hand. Asher nearly squealed like a little girl when he saw that there was an aquatic symbol on the front, but he contained himself. Besides, he could always do his potential squealing later.

"This is going to be your partner," Alder explained, handing the Pokeball over to Asher. "This Pokemon's got a personality quite like yours, so I think you two will fit rather well."

Asher was curious about that, so he gave the professor a questioning look. The professor simply shrugged as if to say 'see for your self'. Asher took this as a go-ahead sign, and pressed the button to release the Pokemon. There was a flash of white colored light, and slowly a little...thing materialized in front of them. Asher studied the Pokemon carefully. It looked like a small crocodile, in all reality. The thing was completely blue, save for a little yellow arrow thing on its chest and red spikes on its back. Asher crouched down, and the Pokemon blinked at him slowly. They stared at each other for a moment, before the Pokemon finally gave a (very loud) cry and launched itself at Asher. Asher blinked as he got a somewhat forceful hug.

"Well would you look at that!" Alder exclaimed, seemingly encourged by the hug. "Totodile already likes you. I think you two will be a pretty good team." Alder glanced around and muttered, "And I finally won't have any Pokemon around to steal my lab reports and eat them! Which reminds me. Don't let Totodile eat your important documents."

Asher blinked slowly. He laughed, standing and patting the little crocodile that had its jaws clamped around his shirt so not to fall. "I don't think I'll let him, but thanks for the warning. I don't really have any important documents anyway." Asher tried to pry Totodile off, but the Pokemon just continued to dangle from his shirt. Asher looked at Totodile, then at the professor. "Erm...is this normal?"

"Oh, quite. Totodile is just expressing his sheer joy," Alder said, looking a bit mischievous.

Asher sighed. "Ah well, I like having him there anyway," he declared, deciding that it wasn't that big of a deal. "I suppose I'll withdraw him later, once he's become a bit less clingy. Just so, you know, he doesn't go ripping my shirt off with him."

"That might be a good idea," Alder agreed. "Well! Good luck on your journey, you two."

"Thank you, sir," Asher said. He checked to make sure he had everything on him, and then walked out of the lab. It was no easy task, however, because Totodile seemed to enjoy making walking difficult. Asher rolled his eyes, but there was a smile on his face as he left.

Professor Alder collapsed into his chair as the last of the new trainers left the lab. There'd be many more trainers wanting to get Pokémon from him in the coming weeks and months, many more than he was used to back in the Sevii Islands, but he already knew that when he chose to take up Professor Oak's work.

One of Professor Alder's aides entered the room slowly, his hands clasped behind his back. "Have the new trainers-"

Professor Alder cut him off as he got up out of his seat. "Come and gone, Kelvin."

"And," continued the aide, Kelvin, quietly. "Well, uhm... did you tell them?"

"Tell them what?" asked the professor, proceeding to clean up the mess he had made getting all of the items for the trainers.

"About Professor Oak?"

Professor Alder paused for a second, thinking it over himself before replying. "There's no need to worry them." He quickly attempted to leave the room to subdue any more questions on the subject, but Kelvin hurried after him.

"They have a right to know, Max."

"A right to know what!?" countered Professor Alder, turning around and coming face to face with the aide. "That the R Syndicate killed Professor Oak, or that they may be going after them next!?"

"Both!" shouted Kelvin, ending the argument and bringing the whole lab deathly quiet.

Namine slowly walked along Route 1, eyeing the Pokeball that held her new Cyndaquil with mild worry. "Why don't you like me?" She asked the Pokeball, but was given no response. At this the girl nearly gritted her teeth before letting out a resigned sigh.

"Not all Pokemon love their trainers automatically," Namine's mother began, pointing at their small pet Shuckle in emphasis. "Like Marty for example! He's much older then you, and he won't live much longer, but he's known me his whole life." The moment her mother mentioned the Shuckle's name, it sent Namine's mother a seething glare. "You see? It's mainly because I don't pay enough attention to him as I should. Being scientists, your father and I don't have a lot of time on our hands; with all of the moving and studying, it leaves Marty with no one but you. Just remember, Namine, you have to give your Pokemon a lot of attention and love if you want it to love you back."

Namine still missed that Shuckle. Determination sparking in her eyes once more, she released the Cyndaquil from his Pokeball. The Pokemon sent her a glare that was similar to that of what Marty had given her mother, but Namine stood her ground.

"...Hi." She said, offering a small smile.

"Cyndaquil."

"Erm...So, we're going to be partners from now on...And I was hoping-" She was cut off as the fire Pokemon stalked off towards a patch of tall grass. He didn't seem too irritated with her, as his flames had not yet began to rage from his vent-like fur on his back, so Namine followed at a close range. "Cyndaquil, wait! Come on, I just want to be friends with you!" This caused the Pokemon to turn to her with another seething glare, but he made no move to leave. Letting out a relieved sigh, Namine cautiously reached down to pet her Pokemon once again. The Pokemon gave her hand a suspicious glance through slitted eyes, but made no move when she finally began to pet his head. "Thank you, Cyndaquil! Now we just- Ow!" Namine exclaimed as Cyndaquil tackled her hand.

Wincing, Namine stepped back a few steps to examine her hand -which was already bruising. Taking another step had been a horrible mistake, as she tripped over something soft and furry. "Ow! Goodness, again?!" She questioned, shouting out nothing. After a few moments, she looked to see that she had tripped over a Sentret. "Oh....Oh no..."

"Sen...Tret...Sentret!!" The Pokemon cried, sitting on its tail to be elevated about a foot off the ground. Cyndaquil merely stood where he was uncaringly, seeming to think that none of this was his fault. The Sentret's cries seemed to attract other Sentret, because Namine was shocked hen two more appeared on either side of her. The Pokemon glanced at Namine and Cyndaquil accusingly, and while Namine tried to make amends, Cyndaquil made his way to the crying Cyndaquil...And patted its back.

"Cynda, quil quil." He apologized. The crying Sentret seemed to nod in understanding, but the other two did not seem convinced. They walked over, their cries alerting Namine that they were most likely arguing. An idea popping into her head, she pulled out her Pokedex.

Sentret, the Scout Pokémon. Sentret is able to see great distances by rising up on its tail. When it spots an enemy, or any kind of danger, it emits a loud, shrill cry as a warning. Some of its moves include: Tackle, Foresight, and Defense Curl.

After learning this, Namine winced once more as she used her injured hand to push herself up onto her knees in order to listen to the arguing Pokemon. The formerly injured Sentret was trying to help Cyndaquil, but to no avail as one of the other Sentret proceeded to pushing the Fire Mouse Pokemon.

"Hey, leave him alone!" Namine ordered, glaring at the Sentret. "What gives you the right to push him, anyway?" The perpetrator Sentret sent her a mild glare before rolling his eyes before turning back around to Cyndaquil. The Sentret cowered, however, when it met the leer from the fire Pokemon. Stepping back, the Sentret tried jumping forward with a scratch...Only to be pushed away as Cyndaquil tackled the Sentret's stomach like an arrow to a target. The second Sentret tried walking over to help, but was blocked by the injured Sentret who winced while trying to make peace with it. The first Sentret twisted back up, and Cyndaquil looked to Namine for an order.

"Eh?" Namine asked suddenly, pointing to herself in emphasis. Cyndaquil nodded, and she had to fight back a cry of victory. "Alright, let's use Leer one more time!" Cyndaquil nodded, freezing the Sentret for a moment with another Leer. The Sentret glared back before jumping forward with another scratch.

"Dodge it, Cyndaquil!" Before the Pokemon could acknowledge the order, Cyndaquil was struck by the scratch and let out a small cry. "Cyndaquil!" Namine exclaimed. Cyndaquil shook his head as if to get rid of some pain, and quickly jumped back up. "You sure...? Okay, use Tackle one more time!" The fire Pokemon nodded, tensing for a moment before tackling the Sentret as hard as he could. The shock sent the Pokemon reeling, causing the second Sentret to run over to check on his friend. Cyndaquil's chest seemed to puff up with satisfaction before he sent another glare towards the two Sentret.

The second Sentret swallowed before dragging his unconscious friend away. Namine slowly rose to her feet, before walking over to the injured Sentret. The Pokemon backed away a little bit, but was urged forward by Cyndaquil, who had pushed her forward from behind. Namine sighed, before carefully picking the small Pokemon up. More pain stabbed at her hand, but she clenched her teeth and ignored it. "Sorry, Sentret." She said, smiling apologetically at the Pokemon. The Sentret smiled at her, before wincing at its own injury. "We're pretty banged up, aren't we, Cyndaquil?" Namine said, turning the Sentret to face to Fire Mouse Pokemon. He rolled his eyes before turning away once more. 'So he does care...' Namine smiled at the thought before returning her attention to the Sentret.

"I know we didn't get off to a good start...But I was wondering, would you like to come with us on our journey?" She asked, putting the Pokemon down to reach for an empty Pokeball. The Sentret nodded, and Namine dropped the Pokeball lightly against its fur before the strange red light enveloped it and brought it to rest wiothin the capsule.

As soon as Asher was out the door, he realized that there was no way he could possibly go around with Totodile hanging off of his shirt. So he stopped, looked down at the Pokemon, and waited. Totodile stared up at him with wide, cute looking eyes. Asher had to laugh, he just couldn't help it. In the end, Totodile finally let go and hopped to the ground, looking up at Asher with a look of utter happiness. Asher grinned down at his Pokemon, very pleased to see that he had a rather outgoing one than a broodish type. Brooding was alright, but Asher didn't really like to be around people (or Pokemon) that depressed him.

"So Totodile, what's say we get a start on this thing, eh?" Asher offered.

Totodile glanced at the looming route a few yards ahead, and then nodded swiftly. Asher saw a flash of excitement go through the Pokemon's eyes, and found that he liked that as well. Totodile didn't seem to be afraid to go and explore new areas, and Asher wasn't either. So, they set off to the very edge of town and the beginning of the route, otherwise known as Route 1. Asher liked that too. In Hoenn, it was so hard to remember the names of the route; they were just too big. In Kanto, however, the numbers were fairly simple to remember, save for a few patches here and there. Asher decided, just to spice things up, to give Totodile a little challenge. He offered a race, and Totodile accepted. Together they ran towards the sign that marked the beginning of the first route, both looking like excited little kids.

In the end, Asher let Totodile win. Totodile sort of rubbed it in Asher's face, but he didn't mind. Asher decided that he wasn't going to put Totodile in his Pokeball unless absolutely necessary, because he enjoyed having his cheerful crocodile out and about with him. Totodile seemed to like it as well, if only because he liked seeing the new grass and trees and other Pokemon.

"You know," Asher began as they started on Route 1. "I think we should try to find one of those bird things the professor was talking about. A Pid...uhm...whatever it is. It should be easy to catch, right?"

"Toto," the Pokemon replied, seemingly in a form of agreement.

"I hope we arrive in Viridian soon," Asher muttered. He looked up at the sky as he walked, and soon Totodile followed the suit. "I've never really been too many places. I'm pretty excited."

Totodile nodded in agreement, and then ended up tripping over his own feet while looking up. Asher paused and looked back, then began to laugh at the utter look of confusion on Totodile's face. The blue Pokemon's face colored a bit red as Totodile got up and gave Asher a sheepish grinning look. Asher chuckled and nodded forward. Totodile trotted up to Asher and they continued on, Asher occasionally providing their silence with a little small talk. Totodile would occasionally respond with a utter of his own name in different tones, depicting how he felt about whatever subject Asher had broached. Asher couldn't stop grinning. He just had a feeling that this partnership was going to go very well, and was super pleased with how it was going already.

They were probably a third of the way through the route, when Asher began to get a bit hungry. Totodile seemed perfectly fine, however, because when Asher stopped to get some (now crushed, thanks to Charizard) chips out of his bag that he had packed, Totodile kept going. It took Asher several moments to realize this for himself, and by the time he did Totodile was already quite a ways away. Asher blinked, wondering how in the heck Totodile had managed to walk that fast, and then called to his Pokemon. When Totodile (who was deaf apparently, along with cheerful) didn't seem to hear him, Asher grumbled under his breath and stuffed a corner of the bag in his mouth. Then he fixed his messenger bag and ran after Totodile, calling his Pokemon's name between the bag that was placed in his mouth.

Finally as Asher seemed to be catching up, he saw something dive out of the sky and slam right into Totodile! Asher was so surprised he took in a huge gulp of air, effectively almost choking on the bag of chips as he did so. He coughed and sputtered, ripping the chips out of his mouth and taking off full sprint for his Pokemon. Totodile was slowly getting up, though he looked rather dazed and confused. Asher finally skidded to a halt next to Totodile, and began looking around for whatever had just attacked his poor crocodile.

"Dile..." Totodile muttered miserably as he rubbed his head.

"Yeah, it was a cheap trick. Stupid thing just attacking you like a ninja," Asher grumbled, glancing around for the offender. He was about to give up his search, when he suddenly saw a flash of brown in the trees. "Oi! Why don't you just come out and fight us, you big stupid...thing!" Asher wasn't sure what it was, so "thing" was the best comeback he could think of. Luckily enough he wasn't attempting to insult another human, because his comebacks sort of sucked.

"Geo!" the thing called, then the tree leaves rattled. Moments later the thing was diving for them again. Asher knocked Totodile out of the way, and then ducked. A bird whooshed past his head, then swerved and hovered in the air a few paces away. Asher brought out his Pokedex and pointed it at the flying bird.

"So what might you be, huh?" he muttered, pushing the button that would allow him to get the data. It flashed onto the screen, stating the offending Pokemon as a Pidgey. "Ah, so this is what Alder was talking about! You don't seem to be too friendly though," Asher commented lightly. The Pidgey hooted in something akin to annoyance. Asher scratched the side of his face. "Nope. Definitely not too friendly. No matter, we're going to beat you anyway. Right, Totodile?"

"Dile!" Totodile said confidently. Now that he seemed to be able to figure out what had just attacked him, Totodile seemed to feel a bit better about the entire situation. Asher had to say, he sort of wished that Totodile knew a long ranged attack, just to fight this flying type, but oh well. Asher sighed and then let out a breath.

"Start off with a leer attack," Asher ordered, figuring that he wouldn't really have much of an opportunity to attack until the hotheaded Pidgey did itself.

Totodile gave Pidgey a pretty scary look, in Asher's opinion. Asher figured this was probably because he had only seen Totodile's cheery side so far. Pidgey cocked its head to the side at Totodile, looking a bit curious. It ended up somehow floating closer, making Totodile grin creepily. Asher didn't really like the creepy look, and Pidgey seemed to snap out of its trance. It squawked and flew away, taking cover on a tree limb. Totodile stared up at the Pidgey, silently willing it to come down. Pidgey seemed to huff in annoyance.

"Maybe it just doesn't like to be disturbed," Asher commented. "Wait until it attacks, Totodile, and then use your scratch attack!" he called, feeling a bit more excited about the battle as a whole. It was getting a little bit more exciting, now that Pidgey seemed to be a bit more riled up. Asher figured that was probably mean of him to think, but oh well.

"Geo!" the Pidgey called, and then dove from the tree at a very quick speed. Asher was surprised by that, and was glad to see that Totodile had been ready for the attack.

As Pidgey swooped in for a tackle attack, but Totodile had his claws ready. He was mainly protecting his face, but Totodile seemed to decide to leap up and meet the attack with his own. Totodile pulled back his arm, and then slammed his claws down across the bird's wings and part of its back. Pidgey cried out but still managed to hit Totodile with a slight amount of force, sending them both slamming into the ground. Alright, so it was more like a thud, but to Asher it seemed like a big hit. He bit his lip nervously, hoping that Totodile would be alright enough to keep going. Totodile slowly got up, and the Pidgey followed the suit. Asher grinned, but before he could get off another attack the Pidgey had already flown away, seeking refuge in the same tree as before. This time, however, it didn't seem to be too keen on coming down.

"Alright, be that way then," Asher stated. "Totodile, use your claws to climb the tree! If that Pidgey's gonna be difficult, we'll be just as difficult."

Totodile gave Asher a look that clearly said he wasn't so sure about the idea, but headed towards the tree anyway. Totodile, using his scratch attack to make his claws sharper, began to slowly climb the tree. After a few moments of huffing and puffing his way up, Totodile finally made it to the same branch that Pidgey was perched on. The bird looked at Totodile without much regard, and then turned away, showing Totodile its tail feathers. Totodile glared at it angrily, and then charged in. Totodile leaped, ready to attack and give Pidgey some of its own medicine, when the Pokemon suddenly took off and flew towards the ground. Totodile, instead of attacking Pidgey, pretty much got a jaw full of bark. Totodile blinked a couple of times, and then looked down to the ground, where Pidgey was now located.

"Well, that's a bit annoying," Asher grumbled as his eye twitched out of sheer annoyance.

"Toto," Totodile agreed, looking equally peeved.

"Maybe we should just give it a..." Asher began, when suddenly Totodile gave a loud cry and leaped out of the tree.

Asher blinked, halfway unable to comprehend what had just happened. Totodile dove toward the ground, and towards the Pidgey who wasn't really suspecting much of anything now. Just when the bird looked up, full of content, did it realize that it needed to move. Before it could manage that, however, Totodile slammed into Pidgey, slashing his claws across the bird's face. Pidgey cried out as it struggled to get away, but sadly for it Totodile was standing on its wing.

"Erm...well...way to improvise, Totodile," Asher said, raising an eyebrow at the sight. He sort of couldn't believe that his Totodile had just leaped out of the tree and practically jumped on the Pidgey. "One more scratch, and then back off!" Asher ordered, attempting to regain control of the battle.

Totodile unleashed one last scratch attack, and it seemed to do the trick. Pidgey cooed, lead falling to the ground. Totodile trotted away, then turned around and looked at his job. As Asher grabbed one of the empty Pokeballs on his bag, he surveyed the injured Pokemon. There was no sense in not catching it now, in any case, because it was already hurt and Professor Alder had said Pidgey were good for first time trainers. Asher grinned slightly, and then threw the Pokeball. The wild Pidgey was engulfed in a flash, and then the ball began to rock back and forth on the ground. Both Asher and Totodile held their breath as it shook.

Zephyr the West Wind: A pretty good post. There are a few spelling errors and bits that sound a little confusing. The battle was also a bit hard to follow. Still, it's a good enough post for the capture.

Namine caught a level 3 female Sentret.

Frostbiteकर्म: Are all Totodile the same? xD Anyway, that was good post. When I read "Geo!", I thought it was a flying Geodude that had attack Totodile, then I remember that's the noise Pidgey make. :P

Asher caught a level 3 male Pidgey.

To Marina there was nothing better than the wind in her hair and the scent of salty water all around her. The little boat was speeding through the waves, splashing water over the railing every once in a while but Marina didn't mind. The sea was everything to her, and what did she care that she got a little wet, or that her hair was a windswept mess?

The boat belonged to the father one of her friends from Pacifidlog who was also taking a look around Kanto. Contrasting to Marina however, Dmitri already had his Pokémon. Dmitry and Marina had known each other possibly since they were born and while Marina had always taken an interest in swimming, Dmitri loved sailing more. There had been countless times when Dmitri took them both sailing to one of the small islands for a beach day.

But now Dmitri was helping his father with the boat while Marine was simply enjoying the journey. She'd offered help but both of them told her to stay put. She thought it was ridiculous but listened to them anyway. If they wanted to work hard without her help, then they could be stubborn as they wanted.

Just then she noticed the little strip of land becoming visible. "I can see it!" Marina yelled. "Kanto is in view!"

Within moment Dmitry came running from where he had been working. He was just wearing a pair of boardhosrts with a wild splatter pattern of blue, white, gold and black. No shirt, showing his tanned skin. He also wore a silver necklace around his neck with a single bead on it. "Finally!" He sighed. "I mean I like boats and all, but that was just too long!" He pulled a hand through his sun-bleached blond hair and flashing Marina a quick smile.

"Stop complaining, you. I offered my help didn't I?" Marina said, elbowing him in the ribs. "And we're almost there, I can see the shores already!"

"That there," Dmitry pointed at the docks where they were headed. "That's where Pallet Town starts, and where we start." Then, without a warning, he elbowed her back. "You would've only gotten in the way anyway, missy, and I'd have to watch you look nostalgically to the sea every five minutes of hard work."

"Whatever," Marina exclaimed, but she was still smiling. They got closer and closer to the big island, and to the shores of Pallet Town. It was just a small indent, no beach, only plants on the shore and some places to put your boat to rest. Dmitry had to go back to help his dad do exactly that while Marina gasped in the unfamiliar sights. Finally the boat gently pushed against the docks, they had arrived in Kanto, and Dmitry returned, his time with a dark t-shirt on.

"Come on!" Marina urged as she ran from the boat, Dmitry hurrying to keep up with her. The town was too small to get lost in, with a huge lab on the top of a hill. Marina ran all the way toward the big building and had to wait for Dmitry to arrive. "You're so slow!" She called to him when he was almost there and he flipped her the bird. She gasped in feigned shock at his gesture and they both laughed.

"Well, let's go then," Marina was just about to open the doors when he interrupted.

"No, no, I'll wait outside."

"What, are you crazy? Why'd you do that, I'm sure the people won't mind you coming in with me at all," she tugged his sleeve but he wouldn't budge.

"Labs and doctors all freak me out, so I won't go in there." Dmitry explained and noted Marina's skeptical look. "No seriously. It's the scrutinizing stares, the whiteness, the buzzing machines, the clipboards and the coats," he shuddered. "The white coats… No, won't go in, but I'll wait here for you okay? Please be quick?"

Marina nodded and went in herself. What she met wasn't that bad. Yes there were buzzing machines, white coats and clipboards. But the people all gave her nice encouraging smiles and there was colourful wallpaper on the walls, not all just white. She got ushered into another room where a man stood with rather messy brown hair and a pair of glasses on his nose. He seemed a bit distracted to Marina.

"Hello sir, my name is Marina Mia, I'm here for my first Pokémon?" She posed it as a question, but the man smiled kindly back at her.

"Marina, right on my list. I'm Professor Alder, pleased to meet you, now… where is it…" He mumbled off while looking around the room for something. Then he exclaimed an 'Aha!' before picking up a nice blue velvet pouch from a table with a couple more of them on it. He quickly emptied it out on the pouch on the table revealing 6 Poké Ball, a strange aqua and square machine and a little slip for information.

"Name… Marina Mia…" He mumbled. "Age… 17… Hair… Eyes… Height… Starter…" He finished scribbling on the card and entered the information in the computer. Out of it scrolled a black and gray little card that held all of her information on it. Her Trainer ID. "Here's your ID young lady, don't lose it, it's your ticket into everything." He put all of the things back in the pouch except for a blue and gold Poké Ball which he left out. "Here's your Pokédex and your empty Poké Ball, to be used on wilds and yadda yadda." He then picked up the prettily decorated ball. "Now this, young lady, is your starter. Your first Pokémon and soon to be your greatest ally. Treat her well and she will treat you well. Now she can be a bit over excitable and she has a lot of energy, but she should serve you well." He pressed the pretty Poké Ball in Marina's hand and ushered her toward the exit.

"Thanks Professor Alder!" Marina called back and she faintly hear a "Don't mention it," and then she was out. The first things she did was admire how pretty the ball was. It was a pure and dark blue with a few golden swirls around the black white center piece that opened the ball.

"So, what is it?" Dmitry asked curiously.

"I don't know yet," Marina answered and released the creature inside. Out of it came a small snake-like creature that floated a few centimeters off the ground. She stared at Marina for a few seconds with her big eyes before sniffing her hand and then letting herself fall onto the ground. She stared up at Dmitry next, who whistled softy.

"Jackpot Marina, you've just got yourself a Dratini."

------------------
Chapter 2:
------------------

"Dratini!"

"Dratini where are you?!"

It was about two seconds after they had entered the route when Dratini had seen something and chased it. Just like that. Now Marina, Dmitri and Dmitri's Taillow were all looking for the little blue dragon. They got a few weird looks from people who heard them call for a Dratini. They must have thought that they thought Dratinis were native to the road, only real lucky people had Dratini's, and as a started it was unheard of.

"Dratini, where are you?!" Marina called but she really had the feeling of hopelessness. There she was, receiving a Dratini as her starter and losing it almost directly after. "Dmitri, what if we won't find her?"

"We will Marina, if we can't spot her from here then Bacchus will certainly find her from the sky," he assured Marina and they kept searching, calling for the dragon. "Dratini! Come out Dratini!"

Just then a harsh cry came from a little farther, and Bacchus came back crying out excitedly before flying back and circling around a certain spot. Marina and Dmitri both raced toward the spot where the Taillow was flying to find Dratini scared and shaking and an angry Rattata almost hissing at her. "Dratini!" Marina called out and Dratini let out a small whimper.

Taillow was about to attack when Dmitry called out to him. "Bacchus, stand down, this is Dratini's fight." The Taillow understood and landed on Dmitri's shoulder. Marina looked at Dmitry quizzically and he nodded at her.

"Dratini, let's show this Rattata who it's dealing with!" Marina called out enthusiastically but the dragon just looked back uncertainly. "First, let's try leer!" Marina ordered, thinking back on the moves that she had checked that Dratini had before entering the route. Dratini made direct eyecontact with the Rattata and glared menacingly. The rat flinched and stepped back tentatively. "Okay Dratine, now use wrap!" The little dragon was quick in wrapping her body around the Rattata and squizing hard. The Rattata cried out in pain as Dratini squeezed harder.

"Good job Marina," Dmitry praised. "Get familiar with our Dratini and how she likes to find and see what her strengths are."

"Dratini, try Thunder Wave now!" Dratini let out a shock and the Rattata cried out again, but it only made it made. It quickly bit the dragon who was still wrapped around it. Dratini startled and relaxed her grip. The Rattata didn't need any more convincing to get awa from the dragon and escaped her clutches. Then it turned around and with great speed hit Dratini in the jaw with a Quick Attack."Dratini!" Marina called out, but the Pokémon looking back and nodded that she was fine. In that moment of taking her eyes off of the Ratta it tackled her in the back and send her flying. She prevented a crash by levitating right above the ground, but she looked pretty shaken.

"I'm sorry Dratini, that was my faul," Marina apologized, but Dratini didn't make the mistake of turned her back on the rat again. "I want you to try wrap again, but beware of the rat's bites!" Marina warned. Dratini did just that, she snaked up to Rattata again, who tried to avoid her but Dratini was quick to wrap around the rat. Rattata tried to bite her again but Dratini headbutted it when it tried.

"Great, now instead of squeezing I want ou to use Thunder Wave again, get a right good shock in there!" Marina encouraged. Sparks started to dance over Dratini's slightly humid skin as she was building up energy internally. When she released the energy a huge shock went though Rattata, causing its hair to stand right on end. Rattata shook, paralyzed by the shock and Dratini let go. "Great job Dratini, let's leave the poor Rattata, it'll come by soon enough."

They continued walking, Marina carried Dratini in fear that she would run off again, which wasn't met with contentment from the dragon. "Fine, you can go out as long as you don't run off again!" Marina warned, and Dratini nodded earnestly and was then allowed to slither beside them. She was such a curious creature it delighted Marina. Whenever there was a new scent or a new sound Dratini always had to stop and listen, or sniff or simply check it out. It didn't make the journey go any faster, but it sure was amusing.

Just then they heard a pair of yipping behind them. Marina turned to be met by two Rattata. One of them clearly was the Rattata from before, he had a strange little spring in its step as if his muscles weren't quite awake yet. Now, with two Rattata next to each other, it was clearly that the one from before was male, with longer whiskers, and the new one was female. Maybe his mate? Whoever she was, she wasn't happy with what they did to the other.

Dmitry was about to take out Bacchus but Marina motioned for him not to. "Do you mind? I want to see what her limits are, when it gets tough you can step in." Dmitry nodded, but he didn't protest either. "Dratini!" Marina called and the little dragon slid back to her. "I think our friend wants a rematch, are you up for it?" In responce Dratini made sparks fly from her skin, already charging up the power. "Great, I want you to start with our little Rattata, we already got his him down once, he can't have recovered fully already, use wrap!"

Dratini did so and with a quick movement wrapped her long body around the Rattata, who didn't stand a chance with his disability. The other Rattata wasn't as quickly beaten approached quickly. "Dratini use glare to keep her at bay!"Making eyecontact menacingy the Rattata back up in fear. It didn't take her long to recover and Dratini was forced to let go of the other Rattata in fear of being attacked herself.

"Dratini, careful of the other Rattata! Try wrap again and use leer whenever she comes too close!" Another wrap around the Rattata. Dratini squeezed more with every second and glared at the other rat whenever she was close to attacking, which startled her from moving for a little bit every time. On the positive side, at least it kept her defenses low so Dratini might be able to take her down more easily.

Meanwhile the other Rattata was struggling to get dree from Dratini. The rat bit her occasionally but Dratini bravely hung on.Just then the other Rattata started running. Dratini leered, but the female's defense didn't seem to go lower, she had gotten immune to the look. "Dratini, loosen up your hold, but don't move until I tell you to," Marina told her, a plan forming in her mind. Dratini did indeed losen her hold, but not enought for the rat to escape. Just as the female came close with a tackle attack, Marina yelled "go" and the dragon quickly moved away from the male. The female Rattata knocked into the other one, propelling the poor thing into a tree and knocking it out.

"Okay that's one! This one will be a little more difficult," Marina warned. "Her defense is already down, so try to get her witha Thunder Wave and a wrap!" The female wasn't that easily taken down however. She dodged Dratini's attempt to wrap herself around and used a Quick Atack to knock her aside. Dratini got up slowly, beaten up by the recent events. Dmitry moved toward Bacchus' ball, but Marina shot him a look telling him not to.

"Dratini, how about you use Thunder Wave first?" Marina propesed and Dratini tried. She got close to the rat, or as close as she dared. Keeping eye contact she slithered closer and closer until she could almost touch her. The Rattata watched distrustingly although Dratini kept her head very low to the ground, a sign of respect or a sign of the hunt. Just as the female decided that it was the latter that Dratini was showing the dragon released her charge. It hit Rattata full on but the paralyzing effects only hurt her fore legs. The female couldn't run anymore, but she could still attack.

"Be wary of a caged tiger, Dratini," Marina warned. "Don't get too close, instead try to hit her quickly and get out of her way. They're most dangerous when they're hurt." Dratini nodded in repsonce, still watching the now slightly crazed Rattata. Dratini coiled her body in like a spring and unwound, launching herself at the Rattata. She used the weight of her body against the Rattata, whos hurt legs took away an balance she might have had. She got launched into the same tree as the male. She struggled to her feet, breathing heavily.

"She just won't stop!" Marina exclaimed. "Dratini, try to paralyze her fully!" Dratini slithered close, but the female wasn't stupid. She leaned on her hind legs almost like Dratini had done in her coil. She then jumped forward and got a hold on one of Dratini's big fins and bit down hard. The dragon roared in shock as she shook her head, trying to get rid of the Rattata, but she held on tight. More violent shaking as Dratini hit her head, plus Rattata, against the ground trying to shake her off. When that didn't work she shocked her with all her might, and only then did the Rattata let go, falling on the ground. Fainted.

Dratini dropped her full body on the ground, almost entirely drained of energy. "Come here love," Marina coaxed. "You did very well, amazingly well. Here you go," she retrieved a potion and Dratini drank its content, helping with the hurt. "Now let's go see if we can get to the city in one piece, shall we?"

{Swan}: Thanks for getting both posts up. :) Can't say anything bad about the first post, and it's great to see Marina already has a travelling buddy.

Marina recieved a level 5 female Dratini.
Marina recieved a Pokedex.
Marina recieved 5 Poke Ball's.

As for the second post; once again I can't say anything bad about it, the battle was fantastic. If all of your posts are like this one, you're going to go far in this RP. xD

Dratini grew to level 7.

After obtaining her starter and the other necessary items, Isis thanked Professor Alder and went on her way.

Throughout the span of a couple of hours, Isis had not been able to find a single Pidgey. It was nearing lunch time, which meant Isis wanted to capture the Normal/Flying type before she got too hungry.

Her impatience got the better of her and she swore. "This just sucks! Why haven't I found anything yet?!" Isis muttered out loud, as she shook her head angrily. "Where are they…?" she added, as she reached into her bright yellow backpack for the book her mother had most likely placed there. Just as she arrived at the part on Pokémon capturing, the lone Poké Ball on her belt wriggled and burst open.

The light landed on terra firma to materialize into Isis's first ever Pokémon.

"I need your help, Adhira," Isis murmured, while stroking the Wool Pokémon's soft head.

"Mar?" The Electric type asked, saying "Me?" in her language.

The fourteen-year-old redhead looked at her starter oddly. "Did you understand me? Or is it that I can't understand you?"

"Mareep mar!" The female Mareep answered, happy that the teen had worked out that they needed to bond and be friends before the Pokémon could be understood.

Oh well, that's one problem that's been sorted out, Isis thought. "Can you find some wild Pokémon for me?" she asked politely, though her eyes betrayed her anxiety.

"Reep!" Mareep growled, telling the red-haired teen that she was not a sniffer dog and would not degrade herself by doing something that was meant for them. To show her irritation, she growled and gouged the ground.

Isis crouched down and put one hand on the side of the female Pokémon's face. "Please, Adhira? For me?"

Mareep could see Isis' sincerity, which through her tantrum out the window. The Pokémon even recognized that the trainer had given her a nickname. Adhira hesitated, murmuring "Mar…" as she did so.

Isis opened her mouth to speak, but stopped upon noticing a Pokémon stumble into her line of sight. It was a small brown and cream bird, which was visibly trembling. The Normal and Flying type had brown eyes and stood on two short legs. As it uttered drawn out, shrill cries of "Pidg!" Isis noticed that the poor creature was distracted and had no idea its path had brought it to a trainer.

"That's a Pidgey!" Isis spoke softly while referring to her Pokédex. "According to the Pokédex, they live on this Route." She flicked the device closed and glanced at the Flying type, before turning to her Pokémon with a firm expression on her enthusiastic face. "We can't just leave it here. We should try and capture it and take it to the Pokémon Centre in Viridian City for a health check."

The Pidgey heard Isis. Glaring at Adhira indifferently as if to say <You aren't worth my time.>, it nevertheless straightened its posture and narrowed its eyes, before lunging at the Mareep.

That's a Tackle attack, the red-haired girl thought. "Adhira, dodge and then use Tackle!"

<I must remain free,> the bird thought.

Adhira agilely circumvented the emotion-spurred attack. The Electric type ran forward, clearly intent on striking the opposing creature. Shrugging off the Tackle attack, as if it hadn't struck it at all, the clearly troubled bird charged forward once more. It was at this moment that Isis realized that it was more than just emotion that had goaded the Flying type into action. She knew that it would fight to the death to uphold more than just its honour.

"Mareep, reep! Mareep, mar!" Adhira's speech was once again out of character for the cheeky Pokémon. The Electric type's speech had fulfilled its intended purpose, however. Its anger rising, the emotional Pidgey leaped up and fell onto Adhira, forcing her to use her claws to defend herself.

Jeez, that's gotta hurt, Isis shook her head slightly and winced at the sight of her Pokémon crashing into a nearby tree.

"Mar!" Adhira said, winded, before recovering enough to rise to her clawed feet. Pidgey had survived the 'crash landing' as it had flown upwards before impact. Descending, it flew over to where Adhira was and moved like lightning, thus performing a Tackle of its own.

Oh-kay, I think it's time I kicked it up a notch, Isis believed it was time to rack up a capture and be on her way to Jubilife. "All right, Adhira! Let's go! Give it all you've got!" the girl yelled, before Pidgey could muster up a counter-attack.

"Mareep!" The Electric sheep replied decisively. The Mareep let out a frustrated cry and let loose a ferocious lunge attack that completely caught the Flying type off guard. Adhira barrelled into the brown and cream bird and fastened her fangs on its back. Clamping down, a bit of blood spurted out.

Wha-? Whoa! I didn't think Adhira had it in her! Isis looked shocked.

<You'll pay for that,> the bird vowed mentally, as it looked itself over after pushing the sheep Pokémon away. One dog-like shake of the body spattered blood on the grass and it was starting to weaken, thanks to the back bite. It tensed, its eyes narrowing in the sunlight as it prepared for another attack.

Bugger, what now? The red-haired trainer thought, panicking slightly. That Pidgey is still going strong; it's not slowing down at all! I suppose I could make use of Tackle, but still…

"Adhira! Here's what we're gonna do! Dodge Pidgey's current attack and counter with a Tackle technique!" Isis yelled out.

"Mar," the female sheep answered.

For what she hoped was the last time today, Adhira took a step forward. As the bird struggled to regain its composure, Adhira rushed in and, with a few well-placed bodily shoves, managed to reduce its energy even more.

<I've failed them,> was the bird's last thought before falling to the grassy ground.

Isis heaved an empty Poké Ball at the brown and cream being that was doubled over on the ground. The sphere began rocking from side to side.

Once the ball came to a halt, there was a look of sheer joy on Asher's face. He turned to Totodile, holding his hand up. Totodile stared at his hand curiously and then leaped forward. Asher grinned, thinking his Pokemon was about to give him a high five, when suddenly sharp teeth and a heavy jaw clamped down on Asher's hand. Asher yelped and practically squealed as Totodile bit down on his hand, staring at Asher with happiness. Apparently, Totodile thought that biting was a good thing. Asher's eyes began to water as he attempted to get Totodile to let go, because quite frankly it hurt. Finally Totodile let go, looking on curiously as Asher whimpered and hugged his hand to his chest. Asher glared at Totodile, making the crocodile's eyes lower.

"Aw, jeez, don't give me that look," Asher said with a sigh. "Just don't bite my fleshy parts. That hurts, you know."

"Dile!" Totodile practically chirped, looking much happier now. Asher rolled his eyes but smiled anyway.

"Best get this Pokeball before someone happens along and steals it," Asher commented lightly. He walked over to the place where his secured Pidgey was located and picked up the sphere. Asher couldn't help but marvel at it for a few moments, and then he slipped it onto the second hook on his backpack's strap. He turned to Totodile, who was simply sitting on the ground while he waited for Asher to finish. "Come on, Totodile," Asher commanded, "we still have to reach Viridian City, you know."

"Toto," Totodile grumbled, pushing up from the ground and trotting on over to Asher.

"Maybe if we get lucky, we'll get to battle someone on the way," Asher commented lightly. He found himself drifting off into a daydream like sequence of him beating a person without a face. Asher dubbed this person his arch rival, and apparently his arch rival had Pokemon that were super strong. The thing was, Asher's Pokemon were stronger. "Yup!" Asher said with a grin. Totodile looked at him curiously, clearly beginning to wonder if his trainer was sane, and then looked back across the distance.

Asher hummed to himself lightly as they walked, and Totodile occasionally piped in with cries of his own name here and there. Asher thought it was pretty amusing, but didn't laugh because he didn't want to offend Totodile on accident.

"When do you suppose we'll get there?" Asher questioned aloud, momentarily stopping his humming.

"Dile?" Totodile muttered, cocking his head to the side.

Asher snickered. "You're not very helpful, you know."

Totodile glanced at Asher and shrugged, apparently not really caring how helpful he was or not. Asher huffed and grumbled under his breath, making Totodile rather proud of what he had done. They continued on in a pleasant silence for a while, until Asher spotted the form of a person sitting under a tree. The person appeared to be sleeping, but what really caught Asher's attention was the Squirtle sleeping against the boy's side, looking completely serene and content. Asher blinked slowly and stared. Totodile followed Asher's gaze and then decided to be rather bold. He trotted away from Asher's side, and right over to the pair under the tree. Asher cursed under his breath and called for Totodile, but the crocodile had other plans. Instead, he latched his jaws down on the boy's leg.

"OW!" was the first thing out of the boy's mouth. He sat up immediately, staring at the offending blue crocodile latched onto his leg. The boy's eyes narrowed, and by that time Squirtle had woken up as well. "Why you little...Squirtle, use tackle on that Totodile!"

"Hey!" Asher shouted. "Hold up a second!"

Squirtle paused in mid preparation to hit. The boy sneered at Asher, squinting his eyes to seemingly get a better look at him. Then the boy scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Get your Totodile off my leg, idiot."

"It's not my fault," Asher snapped back. "Totodile's just playful, aren't you?"

Totodile glanced up at Asher without letting go of the boy's leg. He nodded, causing the boy to yelp and glare at him. Totodile blinked back at the boy innocently, but still didn't let go.

"Tch. You'd better let go, stupid Pokemon, before I have Squirtle tackle you into the next century."

"Oh take a joke," Asher growled, narrowing his eyes at the boy.

The boy glanced from Asher to Totodile, and then to Squirtle. "Tackle," he said simply. Moments later, Squirtle slammed into Totodile, ripping his jaw off from around the boy's leg and knocking him to the ground.

"Hey! That was pretty freaking jerkish," Asher snapped, not really caring that jerkish probably wasn't a real word. "Are you trying to pick a fight here or something? Because I'll battle you, if you're really itching for one."

The boy regarded Asher for a moment, and then a smirk appeared on his face. "Sure, punk. I wouldn't hold your breath though, Squirtle's stronger than most Pokemon you've ever seen."

Asher knew that wasn't true, because he knew that his mother's Charizard could take that puny turtle out in one shot. The only problem was, however, Asher had a bad feeling that this Squirtle was a little stronger than Totodile, and probably quite a bit stronger than Pidgey. Nonetheless, Asher had pretty much set himself up for the battle, so it wasn't really like he could back out now. Asher walked to the opposite side of the road and then turned to face the boy. Totodile was sitting in the middle of the road, looking rather hurt and sad. Asher frowned, but didn't comment on his Pokemon's current state.

"Do you have two Pokemon?"

"Yeah," Asher said. "Why?"

"Because I'm going to steal it," the boy remarked, voice laced with sarcasm. "I want to have a double battle with you, idiot."

"Stop calling me an idiot," Asher snapped. "But I'll double battle you."

"Nice. Don't expect to win though, idiot."

"Yeah, same to you, pretty boy."

They ended up glaring at each other for a few moments. Asher had his hands balled into fists at his sides, but the boy opposite of him only shot him a fleeting glare before moving on to get his second Pokemon. Asher grabbed Pidgey's Pokeball angrily, still glaring at the boy, and chucked it out onto their makeshift battlefield. Pidgey appeared in a burst of white like, saying his name and looking around the area. Totodile and Pidgey glanced at each other, but apparently didn't have any hard feelings from the previous battle. Instead, they both looked to the Squirtle standing opposite them. Asher moved his gaze up to the other boy, and saw that he had brought out another Pokeball. Within moments he had thrown it, and a Sentret was standing opposite of Pidgey and Totodile. Asher grabbed his Pokedex, deciding that he'd better do it before the battle rather than during it.

"Done yet?" the boy snapped.

Asher shot him a quick glare, but snapped his Pokedex closed. He had received all the information he needed. "Yup. Ladies first."

"Very funny," the boy said dryly. "But thanks. Squirtle, use bubble on Pidgey! Sentret, go ahead and use scratch on Totodile!"

"Totodile use scratch on Sentret!" Asher called, a bit embarrassed that he and the boy's Pokemon were about to go into a scratch fight. The tips of his ears turned a light pink, but he pressed on. "Pidgey, fly up and use tackle on Squirtle!"

Squirtle went first, shooting a slow paced stream of bubbles directly for Pidgey. Pidgey cocked his head to the side, cawed softly, and then shot up into the air. The bubbles ended up drifting away without much force, while Pidgey threw himself into a dive and shot down towards Squirtle like a bullet. Asher smirked. He began to feel a bit confident, at least until he heard Totodile give a harsh cry as Sentret slashed it across the face. Totodile cradled his face, making Sentret snicker happily. Totodile glanced at Sentret, and then suddenly shot a water gun directly for the white and brown circle on Sentret's chest. Sentret squealed as the attack hit the marking, sending it tumbling backwards.

"Sentret, get in front of Squirtle and use defense curl!" the boy called quickly.

Sentret moved with quite a bit amount of speed for something that had just gotten hurt. It leaped into the air and then slipped into a ball, taking the full hit as Pidgey slammed his body into Sentret. It knocked the both to the ground, but Sentret more or less got the brunt of the hit. Pidgey flew back over to Totodile as Squirtle helped Sentret up. The Pokemon looked a little dizzy, but quickly shook itself and seemed to be ready to fight again.

"I guess you're alright, huh?" the boy whispered, more towards himself than Asher. "No matter. Sentret, go use scratch on Totodile! Squirtle, you follow it up with a tackle on Totodile as well!"

Asher bit his lip, trying to figure out what he should do. Somehow, he just knew that in this case leer wouldn't help him out, so that was out of the question. Asher watched as Sentret charged in, ready to hit Totodile with its scratch attack once more. Totodile glanced at Asher, waiting for Asher to order something. Asher thought quickly, but in the end only one thing came to mind. He called for Totodile to leap away and then use water gun, and told Pidgey to tackle the oncoming Squirtle away.

Luckily for him, the strategy worked for the most part. Sentret ended up leaping past Totodile, but skidded to a halt when it realized this. Totodile unleashed a stream of water, but Sentret managed to skitter away in the last moment, leaving the attack to partially hit Squirtle. The boy (Asher really need to figure out his name) cursed when he realized this, and called for Sentret to come back around and use a scratch on Totodile. While this was happening, however, Pidgey had decided to change course. Instead of going after Squirtle like he was supposed to, Pidgey flew in and slammed into Sentret, hitting the Pokemon away from Totodile. Sadly for Totodile, however, Squirtle still smacked it against the ground with a tackle attack of its own.

"Well, seems like you have a little bit of a clue, don't you, idiot."

"I told you to stop calling me that," Asher growled. "And shut up, I'll bet I could beat you with only Totodile anyway."

"Tch, whatever. Sentret, use scratch on Pidgey!"

Unluckily for Asher, he hadn't been paying much attention. If he had, the attack might have been preventable. Instead, Pidgey got hit full on by the scratch attack, causing him to attempt to fly away to a tree branch. Sentret wouldn't let up though, so for Pidgey flying away wasn't exactly the best option. Totodile glanced at Pidgey and Sentret, and then shot a harsh stream of water directly for the scout Pokemon. Sentret glanced over its shoulder, but still got hit in the face by the water attack, giving Pidgey enough time to fly away and perch on a tree branch. Asher looked up at his Pokemon and decided that it would be alright to stay there, at least for a few moments.

"Squirtle, attack Totodile with tackle! Sentret, you attack from Totodile's other side with tackle as well!" the boy ordered, deciding that it was the perfect time to finish them both off.

Squirtle and Sentret both charged in. Totodile looked back and forth at them quickly, unable to determine which one to fend off with water gun. Asher bit his lip and told Totodile to attack Sentret, but somehow the squirt evaded the attack. Asher cursed once he saw this, and told Totodile to just keep it up. Pidgey looked on from his branch for an instant, and then finally decided to go into action. Without hesitating again, Pidgey flew off the tree and straight towards the ground. Somehow he managed to reach before both Sentret and Squirtle, and grabbed Totodile by the snout with his feet. Pidgey huffed and puffed, flapping his wings at a rather alarming speed, but it was just enough.

Totodile and Pidgey just managed to get out of the way before Squirtle and Sentret used their attacks. Sadly for those two, however, they couldn't skid to a halt. In the end, the two Pokemon slammed into each other, effectively knocking each other out. Asher blinked, and soon began to point and laugh. The boy's face went a dark shade of pink, and he growled for Asher to shut up. Pidgey released Totodile's snout and then flew over to the branch again, apparently deciding that he had done his work for the day and it was time for him to rest. Totodile, in the mean time, took Asher's cue and began to laugh as well.

The boy recalled his two fainted Pokemon, still looking rather peeved. "I guess you're pretty good, idiot."

"Hey, I just won the battle," Asher said rather loudly. "So I think you're the idiot here, not me!" He grinned widely, ego inflating to a size that was probably not good for his health. The boy standing opposite him bent down and picked up his pack. When he righted himself, Asher saw there was a lazy smirk on his face. Asher's eyebrows pulled together when he saw this. He didn't really get why the guy was smirking after Totodile and Pidgey had just kicked his butt.

"Nice battle, I suppose," the boy admitted. "My name's Alex, just for the record. Oh, and I'll battle you again someday." It was a promise. Asher watched as the Alex guy turned his back and began to walk. Asher sputtered for a moment, but then called after Alex.

"I'M ASHER!" he shouted.

The guy raised a hand in a two fingered wave, and then disappeared over a hill. Asher blinked slowly, and then realized something. Though he had learned the boy's name, because he was so involved into the battle he hadn't thought to note what Alex looked like. All he could remember was the smirk on the guy's face.

"Well crap," Asher said out loud, scratching the back of his head. Totodile looked at him curiously once more. Finally, Asher just shrugged. "Whatever. C'mon Pidgey, back you go." With that he recalled his bird, and looked at his crocodile. "We're almost there, you know. To Viridian City, I mean," Asher said. He looked in the distance, seeing the buildings not very far off. "I'll race you." Within seconds Asher had taken off. Totodile looked after him for a moment, then gave a cry and started after his trainer.

Hiding behind a cedar tree was a shadowy figure. He continued to observe the red-haired teen as he crept closer and closer.

"Mareep!" the female Mareep's cry was urgent, as her trainer heard a twig break and jerked herself around to be confronted by a man. Sporting black hair, he appeared to be of foreign descent. Snugly fitted on his face was a pair of black-rimmed reading glasses. He wore a long sleeved grey striped business shirt and blue denim shorts, with the whitest of white sandshoes covering his feet.

"Who are you?" Isis asked suspiciously. "And why are you stalking me?"

"Reep," Adhira uttered a drawn-out growl as she expressed her intense dislike for this man.

"My name not important to you," the man replied. "Neither is reason why I stalk you. But what you know anyway? You just young girl who not know anything."

Like hell your name is important! Isis thought angrily, as her hazel eyes widened to hear how disrespectfully the foreigner spoke to her.

"Adhira, Duchess – get ready!" the redhead instructed, having thought of a nickname for her latest addition. "How DARE you speak to me like that?! I'll have you know that I graduated second in my class and I could easily thrash you, you noob!" Having been insulted by the stranger, Isis was really riled up. One hand was in a clawing position, and the other had been thrust upon her hip.

<He's in for it now…> Adhira thought, tensing her muscles in readiness for battle. Refreshed as she was, due to recovering a little in the sphere, the female Pidgey burst out of the Poké Ball and took her place beside the female Mareep.

"You two, it is go time!"

Both Pokémon stepped up next to their trainer, with Adhira having small sparks shoot across as she bared her teeth.

"You want battle, hey?" the man taunted Isis, before releasing the only two Pokémon he possessed.

A flash of red energy revealed a bipedal, tapir-shaped creature with a lazy face and appearance. It waved its four fingered hands around in a circular motion, making the air distort slightly. The bottom half of its body, other than its toes, was black and the rest of it was golden.

The other Pokémon was a black dog-like being with a tan muzzle. It snapped and barked loudly, showing sharp white teeth with drool dripping from them. Upon seeing that its opponents were the diminutive Mareep and Pidgey, the Houndour prepared for a battle.

"The name Jin, by the way," the man finally publicized his name.

"A pleasure, I'm sure," Isis replied sarcastically.

"Get them!" Jin commanded his two Pokémon.

"Adhira, Duchess — double Tackle attack!"

The female Mareep ran towards the Drowzee and her head struck his chest, while the female Pidgey lunged at the Houndour, striking him in much the same way.

Drowzee's black eyes widened upon feeling Adhira's head hit him and the Psychic type retaliated with a blue blast of mental energy that is the technique known as Confusion. The move sent the Electric type flying backwards, but her hind feet dug into the soil, which slowed her movements and prevented her from crashing into an oak tree.

"Duchess, tackle the Houndour and same to Drowzee again, Adhira! Keep it up, you two! You're going great!" Isis congratulated her partners.

The redhead's two Pokémon swapped targets. As Adhira once again lunged towards the Psychic type, it caused the Pokémon to become winded. He staggered backwards, trying to get his breath back.

"Quick, Adhira! Perform the action of Thundershock on Drowzee!" the teen instructed, not wanting to lose the advantage she had.

The female Mareep wasn't about to let that happen and electricity discharged from her woolly fur, aimed at the yellow and brown skin. A choked gasp came from Drowzee's mouth as the pain registered in his body. Having recovered from the earlier attack, Drowzee retaliated with a Pound. Adhira tried to dodge it, but she ended up taking a glancing blow. She responded by unleashing another 'Thundershock' on Drowzee, which proved to be the final straw for the Psychic type. He fainted in front of Adhira, his energy completely spent.

Working as a team, albeit Duchess was a bit unwilling, Adhira and the female Flying type now advanced on Houndour. The Dark type was proving to be particularly difficult in defeating.

Feinting to the left, Adhira was able to trick the fiery canine and she quickly lunged in from the right. She used Tackle on the Dark and Fire type once again, while Duchess madly performed the action of Peck on her opponent until his eyes rolled backwards in his head and he collapsed on his back.

"WHOOHOO!" Isis screamed happily. "I won!" she declared proudly.

Realizing Jin wouldn't give her any prize money, she continued a little way down the path. She stopped and looked back at him, as he was sitting on the side of the path, defeated. "Don't ever underestimate a Pokémon trainer on a mission," she said to him, feeling really proud of herself.

Frostbiteकर्म: I see Asher already has himself a rival. Anyways, the battle was pretty good. The only problem being that Totodile doesn't know Water Gun, try not to make this mistake again.

Totodile grew to level 6.
Totodile learned Water Gun.
Pidgey grew to level 4.

Legendarian Mistress: That was a pretty good battle, but it was a bit fast. Also, like Frostbiteकर्म you had Mareep use Thundershock and Pidgey use Peck, two attacks that they don't know. Please only have your Pokemon use the moves they have listed in the OOC Thread.

Adhira grew to level 6.
Duchess grew to level 4.
