Battle Tower is the only way to clone a Pokemon / Item in Emerald as far as I know. You could use a cheat device like Action Replay or Game Shark to clone.

well i thinks there's another way..but i think that is a stupid idea...my friend told me that he cloned a pokemon on a rival's pc but i don't think it's a good idea...and until now i haven't tried that out...

I think if you disconnect during a trade, there is a chance that one will disappear and one will be doubled.

The only thing I use to clone pokemon are making them by using pokesav.
