What are some close calls when playing the games? This is for all the games including spin offs and both regular play and challenges.

I started a blind Red 3DSrun and I was just derpin' atound route 22, and then, boom, rival comes out of nowhere. Hah? I haven't fought a normal trainer yet! He sent out Pidgey, level 9, and I summoned my Bulbasaur, who is literally just one level lower than it. I used leech seed, it used sand attack, and next up was just a bunch of stalling and me healing Bulby. Finally, the bird died thanks to leech seed damage, and so next up was the starter, who I dreaded....

Aand turns out it's only level 8. Yes, in gen1, the rival's starter's level was lower than his first catch. I sent out my boss Pidgey who obliterated it. I was expecting to sacrifice my Rattata, but now that is no longer the cause.

And I'm also gonna add Riolu in GLAZED. My god he couldn't take a hit. He had so many close calls I wasn't bothered to document them in my run.

What are some close calls ypu guys had in the games?

I'm pretty sure I got destroyed by that rival battle the first time I played. I unwittingly wandered down Route 22 early in the game (not knowing which way to go), and I hadn't battled too much so my Squirtle had a hard time.

In one of my Elite Four runs in Gold (either my first one, or one of my no healing solo runs), I remember finishing up against Lance with 2 HP left on my Totodile. That was a closer battle than I would have liked. I also recall having trouble with the rival battle at Azalea in Gold, as I think I just had my Totodile plus a bunch of untrained Pokemon (Hoothoot, Wooper, my unhatched Togepi Egg, etc.).

As of late, I don't think I've had too many close battles. I tend to be more overleveled than I used to be (especially with Exp. Share, if I don't turn it off), and even if I'm underleveled, I use more balanced teams than I used to, and I'm better at Pokemon than I used to be, so it's not too challenging these days.
