Curious question...

Well as far as the games go, it looks like they can die. Why else have a tower or mountain shrine dedicated to the spirits of departed pokemon? And then there's the girl in Lavender town who says she saw cubone's mother killed by rockets whilst trying to escape...

Well, Pokemon never die in battle. It said so in a Pokemon handbook I bought. XD

But in general, Pokemon would eventually die IRL just like humans. ^^ But as for in battle, I don't think they can die, they only faint. ^^

Do pokemon die?
Well yes.Not from battle but from things humans can die from.Pokemon are mainly like humans..

This question has boggled the minds of many trainers. Yes they die, but how? Old age, disease, starvation, abuse, I mean, there are so many causes. It's bad enough the Cubone/Marowak problem has yet to be figured out, but Pokemon do die. It's just a part of nature. I mean, Pokemon can give birth, why not die? It's just one of those things in Pokemon that are mysteries.

I'd say that they'd die of old age... and possibly disease. But they don't die due to fighting in my opinion. Both the games and anime have said this, and I believe them... sort of. Pokemon Tower in Lavendar is proof of this :P

Yeah, I guess they do with the Pokemon Tower in Lavender Town and such... And waaaaaaaay back in the anime when Ash gets Charmander... arent they trying to make sure Char. doesnt die from its flame going out? o.o I dunno.

It is, however, possible for a pokemon to die in battle if the battle proves to be too fierce. Does anyone recall the episode where Ash fought an Ice POkemon with Charizard, and Charizard got frozen solid? Charizard was on death's door for several days, and it took Ash's diligent efforts to heal him to nurse Charizard back to health.

In the games, Pokemon that you own never die, but in the anime they must die, because nothing lives forever.

Well IRL everything dies over time.So I would believe so.I mean how could you live forever?who would want to live forever lol.

Sure they die. As everyone said, NOT in Battle, but by Age and/or Sickness, etc...
Actually, there would be no use for Mt. Pyre and Lavender Tower~ Like, some time ago, I was playing FireRed, and a guy there in Lavender says Team Rocket KILLED Cubone's Mother [Marowak]. So that means Pok?mon can also be killed. I have a theory that Pok?mon cant be killed by other Pok?mon [In Battle?] but can be killed by a Human or a Pok?mon OUTSIDE of a Battle... o_o;;

Duh. Nothing lives forever. They die out eventually and Pokemon can also die in battle, but not in officials ones. Unless they were tortured for a VERY long time in battle. Old age, diesease are also possibilities. o.O;

THey die In the games too! lavendar town RBY versions said so. But they can also die if your game resets. >_>

In many contexts, yes, especially as Asher said. What is the Lavender Town gravethingy for if Pok?mon don't die? XP

Do pokemon die?
They don't after battles/fights, its called faint/ hinshi
(wonders why ppl in Taiwan and HK keep saying "I killed your...")

They do when some particular things happen:
Butterfree dies after mating.

The Pokemon Tower also explains pokemon die.

Most definitely. Though there isn;t much mention of it beyonfd the girl with Cubone and Pok?mon Tower, but old age is an obvious factor.

And everyone always says Pok?mon couldn't die of battle, but think about it:

Obviously all battles are regulated in some sort, most likely with rules by the Pok?mon League or something. When a Pok?mon is knocked unconscious, it is recalled, but what if it weren't? Do you realize how easily Pok?mon could kill each other in battle if they wanted to? My theory is that the energy within Pok?mon that lets them attack and such would protect them to some degree (thus being why Pok?mon could survive being burnt to hundreds of degrees), but I'd like to see something survive a Scyther's slash if it really wanted to kill you.

Maybe in the Pokemon League, they are a bit polite so they don't kill each other?

Don't know...

Or maybe there's something that stops them from dying in a battle.
