heres a story i made. my minds drawn a blank after chapter 12 though
Chapter 1 The strange creature
It was a beautiful winters evening where the stars shone brightly. A sly young fox was walking under the moonlight in Darkwood Forest when he heard a loud scream coming from the distance. The young fox ran towards the sound to see where the noise was coming from and he noticed a young vixen being forced into the corner by a strange looking animal he had never seen before. He looked closer and noticed the large creature had a scar across its face and back.
Sly noticed the terrified look in the poor vixen's eyes as the creature backed her into a corner. 'You are going nowhere my dear!' roared the creature bearing his teeth. 'Please leave me alone. I have done nothing to you. What do you want from me!' the vixen wailed. The creature said nothing but just simply laughed. It prepared to strike the vixen when Sly leapt straight in front of him
'You lay just one paw on her and you'll have me to deal with!' the animal looked at Sly and laughed. 'You scrawny little creature this is nothing to do with you. What on earth do you think you will be able to do? You think you can face Salzar and live? Ha! Not a chance. Back off or both you and this female will be dead!'
Sly became angry and sank his teeth into the creature's leg. Salzar was furious. Salzar managed to break free quickly and lunged for Sly's neck. However Sly was younger and faster and managed to sink his teeth into the lynx's back. Salzar tried his best to throw Sly off but it was no use. He made sure that he did enough to injure the jaguar so the vixen would be safe. Sly could see that Salzar was beaten and he released his grip.
'You haven't seen the last of me young fox! We lynxes will get even one day. Just you wait and see!' and with that Salzar limped off into the distance.
As soon as Salzar was far enough Sly turned his attention towards the vixen. 'Are you ok? That animal didn't hurt you in any way did he?' the vixen shook her head.
'Oh no he didn't. It was lucky you were there at the right time. I don't know what I would of done if you didn't arrive on time, thanks for saving me you were so noble.' Sly blushed. 'It was my pleasure miss. Can't let that creature hurt you. The names Sly' he said happily wagging his tail. 'My names Scarlet pleased to meet you.' The vixen replied with a smile. The two foxes headed away from the edge of the forest.
Chapter 2 The Trap
After the incident with Salzar Sly and Scarlet had fallen for each other instantly. The pair decided to make a new home together. While they were searching they decided to talk with each other. Sly was the first one to speak 'Hey I have never seen you around here before, Where do u live?'
Scarlet looked at Sly with a smile 'Well I used to live in a small wood further away from here but I decided to move here. There weren't many other foxes around there.' The pair of them approached an earth when they noticed another fox pass by. Scarlet froze instantly.
'Don't worry dear its only my idiot of a brother. He's just a big ball of fluff!' Said Sly half laughing. The two foxes greeted each other
'Hey big bro you nutcase how's it …..' Prowler noticed his brother had company. 'And who is this very charming creature?' Scarlet blushed. 'Well Prowler this is my new mate Scarlet' Scarlet looked at Prowler and smiled. 'it's a pleasure to meet you Prowler'
Prowler noticed that Sly was tired. 'Hey bro are you ok? You look bushed. Has something happened?' Sly changed from a smile to a more concerned look. 'There is some weird creature roaming about the forest. He calls himself Salzar. He attacked Scarlet but luckily I managed to stop him.'
Prowler looked at Sly and Scarlet. 'How very odd indeed… actually now you come to mention it I'm sure I saw such a creature yesterday. Looked sort of like a cat. I have never seen anything like him. He's not like those pet cats but much bigger. Wonder how many more of them are around'. Scarlet looked scared 'well I hope there isn't any more around here. I don't want to see such a creature again. It frightened the life out of me. We'll need to be extra vigilant from now on' Sly and Prowler nodded.
Before anyone else could speak the three foxes heard a groaning sound nearby. Sly sniffed the air. 'Sounds like something is in trouble. Quick this way!' The three foxes ran towards the noise and noticed that a wolf was caught in a trap. The wolf noticed the three foxes but was unable to speak.
Sly looked at the struggling animal. 'Right we need to think of something quick otherwise he is done for' Said Sly with a concerning tone. Prowler looked at the trap carefully. 'hmm… looks like this traps made of wire. The more he struggles the tighter it will get. Should be able to chew through it no problem. If I'm careful enough I can bite through it without injuring myself Just stand back' Prowler started to chew at the wire and it began to loosen. 'Almost there. Won't take much longer now'. A moment later the trap sprang open and the wolf was free.
The wolf looked at the three foxes and smiled. 'Thanks. You got here at the right time, I thought I was done for.' Prowler was the first to speak. 'No problem. Glad to be of assistance. That's what we are here for I'm Prowler and this is my brother Sly and his mate Scarlet' The wolf looked at the three foxes. 'It's a pleasure to meet you my name's Radu. I was just walking around the area when the trap caught me'. Scarlet looked at him 'Yeah you get a few of those traps here. They are usually set for rabbits and other small creatures. Humans say the lands overpopulated with them.'
Sly looked at Radu's injured paw. "That looks quite a deep cut you have there. Can you get up?' Radu got up shakily. 'Yeah just about but I doubt I'll get very far.' Scarlet was the next to speak.
'Well our earth isn't very far from here. You can rest there until your foot heals' Radu smiled at her. 'You are very kind, thank you'. The four animals headed for the earth.
Chapter 3 Starlight
As soon as the four animals arrived at Scarlet's earth Prowler decided to go out hunting on his own.
'Right I will leave you three to just rest for awhile and I will bring back some food. I wont be too long' Sly looked at Prowler and smiled 'thanks bro that's very nice of you. See you later'
Prowler decided to head towards the stream as he would be able to find more food there. As he got closer he noticed a vixen hunting nearby. The vixen looked up and noticed Prowler. She was unsure whether the fox would do anything so she backed away slightly growling
'Hey don't worry I wont harm you. I'm only hunting like you.'
The vixen realised he wasn't a threat so she walked a little closer.
'Oh I'm sorry. Its just you need to be careful around these parts. There's too many weird creatures around. My names Starlight what's yours?'
Prowler smiled. 'Such a charming name for a charming creature. I'm Prowler.' Starlight blushed.
Well Prowler care to join me hunting?' Prowler nodded. The foxes headed for the stream.
As the pair reached the Stream Starlight noticed a rabbit on the opposite bank. Carefully Prowler crossed the stream and crept under the long grass. The rabbit started to eat a nearby cowslip. Prowler managed to get closer but noticed the rabbit was starting to turn round and he froze instantly. Luckily the rabbit didn't notice him and it continued to graze. Prowler managed to reach the rabbit but before it could turn round he grabbed it quickly.
Starlight approached Prowler. 'Hey great catch.' Prowler looked up at her. 'Thanks. Did someone tell you how lovely your eyes are?' Starlight laughed. 'Well you are pretty handsome yourself. Do you say this to every girl you meet?' Prowler blushed. 'No only the most beautiful ones' The pair of them nuzzled each other.
'Hey why don't you join me in my earth? There's plenty room' asked starlight curiously.
'It sounds like a very nice offer but I promised my brother that I would get him some food.' Starlight looked sad.
'Well since we are going the same way why don't I show you my home and you can join me later when you have seen him.'
'Ok once I see my brother I promise will be straight back' replied Prowler with a smile. Once he and starlight reached the earth Prowler headed for Sly's home.
Meanwhile near the edge of the forest Salzar had finally reached home where he found his mate Sasha waiting for him. 'Where on earth have you been? I have been worried sick. You have been gone for a few days!' Sasha noticed Salzar's injured leg.
'My dear noble Salzar what on earth happened to your leg?' Salzar looked down at his mate.
'Oh nothing it's just a little scratch really.' Sasha became angry.
'Its more than a little scratch. Tell me what happened this second!'
Salzar knew that there was no way he could fool his mate. He told her the full story.
Prowler managed to reach Sly's earth and noticed Sly was awake.
'Hey bro! Sleep well? Here I brought you some food'
Sly looked at his brother. 'Yeah I slept like a log. Radu feels a lot better now so he decided to go home. Thanks for the….' Sly noticed the look on Prowlers face.
'Hey something up little bro?' Prowler smiled a little.
'Well I met a vixen and she asked me to come to her home.' Sly laughed
'Ooh Prowler you sly little devil. Hey go over to her we will be fine.
Prowler smiled back at his brother and headed for Starlight's earth.
Back near the edge of the forest Salzar noticed the look on Sasha's face. But was there something wrong? He decided to question his mate.
'Are you OK Sasha? You look exhausted.' Sasha smiled at her mate. 'Well that's because I'm having your kits. Once they are fully grown they can help you get rid of those foxes once and for all!
Chapter 4 Sapphire
As winter approached into spring the weather started to turn very hot indeed. Scarlet had given birth to 6 cubs. Starlight was also lucky as she had given birth to 5.
Meanwhile Radu was strolling around the forest but he started to feel the heat.
'Man it's too hot today. I suppose I better go and get something to drink.' He said as he wiped his forehead. Radu decided to go to the lake where he knew he would feel better. As soon as Radu approached the stream he bent down and began to drink. The water was cool and refreshing so he decided to go for a swim.
A while later he came out of the water when he noticed a female wolf on the opposite side. Radu decided to go over and introduce himself to the female. The other wolf noticed Radu approaching and looked up at him curiously
'Now Radu don't panic. You don't want to hurt her. Just walk up to her and say hi' he thought to himself.
The female noticed that he meant no harm and she bent down for a drink. 'Er… lovely weather today… isn't it.'
The female looked up at him and noticed the nervous look on his face.
The female walked up to him and gazed into his eyes.
'Oh yeah it's such a perfect day for a… swim!' and with that she shoved him in the stream and she burst out laughing.
Radu quickly scrambled out of the water. 'Now that wasn't a very nice thing to do now was it' said Radu trying not to laugh himself.
The female looked at him. 'Oh I'm very sorry. You're not hurt are you?' But before the female could do anything Radu pushed her into the water. Radu decided to jump in after her and the wolves started splashing around like little pups.
A few minutes later the pair of wolves came out of the water. 'Radu was the first wolf to speak. 'Right now that we are officially soaked I think its time we introduced ourselves. My name's Radu' he said half laughing. 'Pleased to meet you I'm Sapphire' replied the female with a smile.
The 2 wolves had fallen for each other instantly. The pair had just settled into their new home when Radu decided to visit Sly and Scarlet with Sapphire.
When the 2 wolves reached the earth they only found Scarlet there.
Scarlet greeted them with a smile.
'Hey Radu its nice to see you again. I see you have found a mate.' Sapphire blushed.
'Radu told me what happened when you met him. I'm ever so greatful what Prowler did for him'
Radu looked worried. 'hey Scarlet where's Sly?' Scarlet looked at him. 'Oh no everything's fine he and Prowler have just gone out hunting for a while. They shouldn't be too long.' Radu and Sapphire said goodbye to Scarlet headed for home.
Salzar decided to check out Starlight's cubs for himself so he headed for her earth. As he approached the earth he slowly crept inside. Luckily both Radu and Sapphire were heading the same way and they noticed the lynx.
'Hey you! Trying to attack a mother and her young cubs are you?' Radu asked curiously. Salzar hit his head on the top of the earth. At that moment Starlight heard the noise and backed the cubs further inside. Salzar looked angry.
'What's it to you, you stupid creature?' roared Salzar in a grumpy rage.
At that moment Sly and Prowler appeared. Salzar noticed he was outnumbered so he decided to head for home. Starlight came outside and noticed Sly prowler and Radu.
'What on earth was that creature doing round here?' Prowler gave his mate a concerned look.
'I shouldn't of left you and the cubs alone. What was I thinking? He could have killed you all.' Starlight nuzzled her mate.
'Well nothing happened did it. Everyone is fine'.
Sly looked at both Prowler and starlight.
'But for how long will this last? We must be extra vigilant from now on'
Chapter 5 A Close Call
Weeks later all the cubs were allowed to explore outside but because what had happened before both Sly and Prowler made sure they kept a close watch on them all and that they didn't stray too far. Both Starlight's and Scarlet's cubs were showing their own personalities.
The smallest of Scarlet's cubs was always jumping on small creatures that were scurrying around and he managed to snap up a few. Both Sly and Scarlet thought he'd be quite the hunter. The 2 twin males were named Catcher and Snatcher for obvious reasons. The three females only seemed to be lively at certain times of the day and were names Skylight, Sunlight and Moonlight.
The largest of Prowler's cubs was named after him as they had similar colourings on their fur. The smallest cub seemed to love scavenging for scraps so he was named Scavenger. Finally the three females were named Sunrise, Moonrise and Midnight for the shades of their fur.
Back at Radu's home Radu left Sapphire sleeping and he decided to visit Prowler and Starlight to see how they were faring. As soon as he approached the earth little Prowler jumped right in front of him and he started to growl.
'Oi Prowler calm down he's a friend.' The little cub stopped growling as he saw his father and he went back to his mother.
'Sorry bout that Radu o'l mate. He always gets carried away like that' Radu smiled at his friend.
'No problem pal. He looks so much like his father.'
Prowler laughed. 'Yeah just like me when I was a cub. Anyway how are you and Sapphire?' Radu smiled.
'Yeah we are both fine thanks. She is due to have pups soon.' Prowler smiled back at his friend.
'That's wonderful news pal! Well tell her we are all asking for her.' Radu nodded and he headed for Sly's home.
Meanwhile Moonlight had strayed too far from home. The cubs were playing a game of hide and seek and she didn't realise how far she had strayed. Suddenly Moonlight felt a chill down her spine.
'Oh dear its getting cold out here. But how do I get home?' Just as she finished speaking a lynx appeared. However this wasn't Salzar but one of his offspring.
'Oh no you wont be going anywhere. My father has sent me to sort that out.' Moonlight started to run but the young lynx managed to catch up to her. The cub prepared to strike when Radu appeared.
The lynx was no match for the wolf as he was much smaller so he headed for home.
'You are a lucky girl but wait till my father finds out. He will kill you all.' Roared the young cat as he ran off into the distance.
Radu turned his attention to Moonlight. 'Moonlight are you ok? What on earth are you doing so far from home? Didn't your father tell you not to go too far' Moonlight explained to Radu what had happened.
'At least your safe. I better take you home now. Just follow me and stay close.' Radu led Moonlight back home.
Back at Sly's earth Scarlet had realised Moonlight was missing. She turned her attention to the other cubs.
'Hey have any of you seen Moonlight?' Said Scarlet worriedly 'I can't find her anywhere.' Hunter walked up to his Mother with a concerned look on his face. 'Mother we were playing a game and she wondered off' Scarlet looked worried. 'I told you to stay near the den. Where on earth could she…' Before she could finish her sentence Radu and Moonlight appeared.
'Where on earth have you been Moonlight? Your father and I were worried sick!' Radu explained what had happened.
'Nobody will be safe as long as those lynxes are around.' Scarlet said worriedly. Sly walked up to his mate.
'Well we will need to be very careful, we can't leave the cubs on their own for a while. We will need to take turns when we go out hunting.' Scarlet nodded in agreement. Catcher and Snatcher both looked at each other. 'oh man no fun for us thanks Moonlight'
Chapter 6
Prowler had heard about what happened with his niece Moonlight from his brother Sly so he decided to keep a close eye on his cubs. Moonrise started to wander off when Prowler picked her up by the scruff. 'Oh no you don't missy you know what I said about wondering off on your own. You know what happened to your cousin when she did that.' Prowler let go of her. 'I'm sorry daddy I promise I won't wander off anymore.' Scavenger laughed at his sister. 'Yeah right. I wander how long that promise will last' Moonrise hit Scavenger in the face. 'You're the one who can't keep promises here. I'm a good girl' Moonrise poked her tongue out at Scavenger. Starlight looked at the pair of them. 'Now both of you can't you behave for one second. Please listen to your father he knows what he's talking about' Moonrise and Scavenger looked at their mother. 'Yes mum sorry mum we'll behave promise'
Chapter 7 new homes
As the weeks passed Sapphire had given birth to 4 wolf pups. The four foxes made sure they kept an eye on the cubs. Luckily they didn't see the lynxes again.
A month later Sapphire had given birth to the cubs were old enough to leave their parents and find a home for themselves. Catcher and Snatcher made sure that they stayed together.
'Right I know you are all old enough to look after yourselves but remember you must be careful. Don't go wandering too near Salzar's territory.' Catcher looked at his mother. 'Hey mom don't worry I'll look after Snatcher for ya'. Scarlet gave him an odd look.
Sly looked at him angrily 'hey Catcher its no laughing matter. You know what happened to Moonlight. We don't want that to happen again. Just make sure that you all look after yourselves. If you find you are in trouble you can always give us a call. We are all here for you if needed.' Hunter went over to his mother and nuzzled her. 'Hey mom don't worry we will all be fine' and with that the cubs went their separate ways.. Well everyone except Catcher and Snatcher of course.
Prowler's cubs were also old enough to leave home. Scavenger decided to go it alone whilst Sunrise and Midnight stayed together. Young Prowler decided to stay with his parents for a little while longer.
Catcher and Snatcher managed to find an old abandoned earth. The pair couldn't smell the scent of foxes so they decided to settle inside.
'Finally we can live on our own. Now we can do what ever we like' said Snatcher to Catcher. 'Yeah and no parents to tell us what to do either!' replied his brother with a smile. 'Well I hope the others will be all right. I'm sure they will be able to look after themselves.'
Meanwhile Moonlight had decided to find a new home near the river. She made sure that she made a home far away from Salzar's territory as she didn't want to make the same mistake again. She found a nice spot near a tree and began to dig. Moments later a young male fox walked up behind her.
'Hey there I haven't seen you around this area before'. Moonlight jumped with a start. 'Hey you scared me half to death! Don't do that!' the young fox smiled at her. 'Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to give you a fright. I shouldn't have sneaked up behind you like that. Anyway the names Blitz what's yours?' 'Oh hey Blitz I'm Moonlight pleased to meet you' she replied with a smile.
'Well Moonlight want me to give you a hand with making your home?' Moonlight looked up at him. 'Yeah it will be done twice as fast with both of us doing it'
Both Skylight and Sunlight decided to stay together for a little while longer until they could find a suitable home. 'Its kinda weird now we are going on our own it just seems too quiet without the others. Think mother will be ok?' asked Sunlight worriedly. 'I'm sure she will be fine. Dad's with her after all. He will look after her. We'll do fine on our own' replied her sister.
Scavenger was the next cub to find a home of his own. He settled inside and fell fast asleep. When he awoke he noticed a female fox in front of him and he woke with a start. 'Hey I'm sorry for waking you. I didn't realise anyone stayed here.' Scavenger stood up and looked at the vixen. 'Oh no trouble at all miss. I needed to get up anyway!' The two foxes laughed. 'Anyway now you woke me up care to go hunting?' 'Sure. I'd be glad to join you' replied the vixen with a smile.
Chapter 7 Crimson
It was a cold evening when Scavenger and the vixen went out hunting. There were a number of creatures scurrying around trying to get home. Scavenger managed to grab some quickly as they passed. The vixen was also quick at picking off mice.
'You are very quick at hunting. We are lucky that it's so cold out here' Scavenger looked at the vixen 'I suppose so. You are very quick too. Oops I forgot to mention my name. I'm Scavenger'. The vixen looked up at him. 'I can see why you got that name' said the vixen with a smile 'Its nice to meet you Scavenger I'm Crimson.'
Scavenger looked up at the vixen. 'Oh such a charming name for a charming creature' Had Scavenger been hanging around his uncle a lot? Scavenger seemed to say exactly what Prowler had said to Starlight when they had met. Oh why couldn't he think of his own thing to say!
The vixen laughed. 'Well not many foxes say that to me' Scavenger looked surprised. 'What really? Why not' Crimson looked at him 'well cause the ones that do are losers.' Scavenger looked worried. 'Do… do you think I'm a loser? What did I do wrong?' Crimson nuzzled him. 'Oh no I can see that you wouldn't hurt me. You seem so caring' Scavenger breathed a sigh of relief 'well I need to be. Our family has had trouble with some creatures. My father is very caring too. If he didn't save my mother's life I wouldn't of been here' Crimson looked worried 'why what happened to your mother?' Scavenger explained to her what had happened.
Meanwhile Catcher and Snatcher were also out hunting. They noticed 2 vixens nearby. 'Hey Snatcher lets go over and introduce ourselves' Catcher pushed him towards the vixens. 'Hey what on earth are you doing bro?' Snatcher asked curiously. 'ER well.. I'd thought you can introduce the two of us.' Snatcher swiped his brother across the head. 'oh I see what's going on' he said with a smile. Your scared of them!' Catcher perked up instantly oh no. I just thought you would want the privilege of talking to them' he said half laughing.
The two vixens had noticed the look on the twin's faces so they decided to go over to them. 'you two scared to come over eh? Oh common we won't bite. Well only a little' Catcher and Snatcher looked up at them. 'oh no. we were just er… deciding on where to go hunting.' The largest of the vixens laughed. 'well why not go hunting with us? I'm sure we will love the company. And I promise you we aren't that bad!' Catcher and Snatcher nodded. The four foxes headed for the river.
Chapter 8 A cunning plan
The following morning was extremely hot and Hunter was lying in the sun. 'It seems to get just hotter and hotter each day. It's so boring today. There's just simply nothing to do. Might as well see how Starlight and Prowler are coping' he thought to himself. Hunter decided to go to their home. He ended up getting half way there when he saw young Prowler drinking at the river. 'Well at least Prowler is ok. Wonder what he's up to. Maybe he has finally decided to find a home for himself. Might as well go over and talk to him I have nothing better to do really'
Hunter noticed that Salzar was creeping right behind Prowler. 'Prowler watch out behind you!' but before the young fox could turn round Salzar had managed to grab him and dragged the young fox away. Hunter had no choice but to run and find both Prowler and Starlight.
Meanwhile Sly was out hunting. He noticed Hunter dashing past and saw the look on his face. 'Hey Hunter what's the matter?' Hunter skidded to a halt and walked over to his father. 'Dad. Its Prowler.. Salzar took him!' Hunter explained to Sly what he had seen.
'So Salzar has decided to capture one of us. Looks like he was just waiting for the right time. He must have some plan up his sleeve.' Both Sly and Hunter went over to Prowler's earth.
The two foxes noticed Prowler lying out of his home. As soon as the pair walked up to him. Prowler noticed instantly that something was wrong. Sly explained to him what had happened. 'so he thinks he can mess with my family. We will need to do something about that.' Hunter looked at him. 'Shouldn't you tell Starlight what has happened?' he asked curiously. Prowler looked down at him. 'I don't want to get her involved. She will be heartbroken. We must go save him ourselves' Hunter and Sly nodded in agreement.
Meanwhile Salzar had managed to get home and he tossed young Prowler in a cave. 'Right boy I have plans for you. Just watch when your parents come for you. We will be ready for them!' Prowler became angry. 'You monster! Leave them out of this!' Salzar looked at the young fox and laughed. 'I hate to say but your family are very much in this. You think they won't come to your aid? They will either have to fight for you or die trying!' and with that Salzar knocked Prowler unconscious into the cave wall.
Turin looked at his father. 'dad are you sure this will work? What if something goes wrong?' Salzar looked at the young lynx angrily. Stupid boy do you honestly think those puny foxes can beat me? We will be ready for them when they arrive. We can get rid of those meddlesome foxes once and for all!'
Chapter 9 a hard lesson
The three foxes quickly headed for Salzar's territory. Prowler mad sure that they got there as quickly as possible. 'Right we need to see if we can find where they are hiding' Sly said to his brother. Prowler looked at him. 'If Salzar has done anything to him I'll….' The three foxes headed into the cave. Prowler noticed his son on the floor and he ran to him. 'Hey Prowler what have they done to you.' The young fox looked frightened. 'No dad it's a trap!' before they could do anything a group of lynxes surrounded them.
'Well well well look what the cat dragged in!' Salzar appeared in the middle of the other lynxes. Prowler became angry. 'You will return my son at once!' Salzar looked at him and laughed. 'You puny creature what are you going to do about it'. Prowler looked up at Salzar. 'Brought your followers with you have you. You are just scared.' Salzar laughed. Scared am I? I'll show you how scared I am!' Salzar lunged at Prowlers neck but Prowler managed to dodge. The two animals circled each other. Prowler tried to run at the jaguar but Salzar moved out of the way and he fell on the floor. Salzar managed to grab hold of Prowlers neck.
'Dad no!' young Prowler had run at Salzar and grabbed hold of his leg. Salzar yelped in pain. Young Prowler was unable to keep hold of Salzar's leg and the lynx saw his chance. Salzar grabbed hold of young Prowlers neck. The young fox tried to break free but it was no use. Salzar held fast onto young Prowler and sank his teeth into his neck. Young Prowler fell to the floor with a thud.
Prowler noticed his son on the floor and he became angry. 'You'll pay for doing that to him you stupid animal!' Prowler lunged at Salzar in a grumpy rage. Salzar attempted to move out of the way but it was no use. Prowler grabbed hold of Salzar's scruff. The jaguar tried his best to break free but Prowler held fast. Hunter and Sly grabbed hold of Salzar from the back and he roared with pain.
Prowler managed to sink his jaws deeply into Salzar's neck. The lynx roared but it was no use and he fell to the floor. 'you.. won't.. get away with this.. I will get you back.. wait and see. Before Prowler and Sly could stop him Salzar limped off.
When the three foxes knew Salzar was far enough Prowler ran over to his son. 'Hey Prowler lil buddy you will be ok. He's gone.' Young Prowler looked up at his father. 'dad its too late i'm done… for… tell… mother… and everyone…. I love them….' Young Prowler breathed for the last time and died in Prowlers arms.
Prowler broke down in tears. 'Nooo this can't be! It can't end like this!.' Sly walked up to his brother. Im sorry Prowler but he really has gone. You did your best' Prowler looked up at his brother. 'it wasn't good enough. Oh why did I let him go away!' Prowler cried on Sly's shoulder. Sly looked at him. 'Don't worry Prowler I will make sure that Salzar pays for what he has done. One day!'
Chapter 10 Mourning a loved one
Sly had broken the news to Starlight what had happened and she rushed towards the den where she found Prowler lying over the young cub's body. 'How could I leave him by himself. What on earth was I thinking, I should have protected him.' Tears started to flood in Starlight's eyes. Starlight laid down next to her mate. 'Prowler its not your fault. Stop blaming yourself. You did all you could to protect him. Who knew this would happen. He had to leave home one day'
Prowler looked angry. 'Why didn't I just kill him in the first place. If I did Prowler wouldn't be dead.' Sly looked at his brother.
'I feel partly to blame. If I killed him when I first saw him….' Scarlet looked at him. 'What's done is done. You shouldn't blame yourselves.'
Radu looked up at them. 'Yeah she's right Prowler. You weren't to know this would happen what else could you of done?' Prowler smiled a little. 'I suppose so. But it doesn't bring the pain away'. Radu comforted his friend 'I know it hurts but he had a good life. Neither of us will forget him. The four animals carried young Prowler's body towards the stream.
The cubs were told what had happened to young Prowler and they all gathered around the stream where they buried him. Unfortunately Sapphire couldn't join them as she was looking after the wolf pups.
Prowler looked up at Starlight and nuzzled her. 'He always loved this spot it's a perfect place for him. He would have wanted to be buried here'
Scavenger looked at his father. 'But what are we going to do about Salzar? We don't want this sort of thing to happen again do we?' Radu looked at the foxes 'Well I don't think Salzar will strike soon. He wouldn't be stupid enough to do anything for a long time. We will just need to ensure everyone is ready for when the time comes'.
Prowler looked back at the spot where he buried his son. The animals headed for home. Radu headed for his den where he noticed Sapphire lying next to the pups. Sapphire looked up at him and smiled a little. 'How's Prowler and the others coping?' she asked curiously. Radu looked down at her. 'Well Prowlers not good at the moment. He blames himself for the death of little Prowler' Sapphire nuzzled him. 'He just needs to spend some time with Starlight. The pain wont go away but they should feel a little better soon. Radu smiled a little. 'Yeah but will we be able to live in peace. How long will it last?
Chapter 11 A new Friend
A few weeks passed after the death of young Prowler. The animals were now very wary as Salzar could strike at any time. Salzar had been recovering over the incident from the foxes. A young lynx walked up to his father.
'Do we really need to fight the foxes? They have done nothing wrong'. Salzar gave his son an odd look. 'Done nothing wrong aye? They don't deserve to live here!'
Turin looked back at his father. 'Can't we just live with the foxes in peace? They don't want any trouble' Salzar hit Turin across the face. 'Don't be silly boy they are out to kill us! How long do you think we'll be here if we don't get rid of them. They'll be after our necks first!' Turin started to walk away from his father. 'Well you can think what you want. I don't think they mean any harm and to prove it i'm going to find one of them and talk to them!' and with that Turin ran off into the distance.
Meanwhile Moonrise was drinking by the pond when she noticed a figure of a lynx. The young female backed away and started growling.
'Hey what are you growling at me for? I mean you no harm'. Moonrise looked up at him. 'But your Salzar's son how can I trust you?' Turin looked at her
'Just because I'm a lynx like my father it doesn't mean I'm bad. Look I am nothing like my father. I don't understand why he wants to fight. I just want to be friends with you.' Moonrise gave him a little smile. 'Sounds like your telling me the truth, you should speak to my father.' Turin nodded and the 2 animals headed for Prowler's earth.
Prowler was laying in the sun when he noticed Moonrise with Turin. He ran right at him growling. "You lynx how dare you come here after what you did!" Turin looked at him
'After what I did?' Turin questioned him. 'I have done nothing wrong. Just because my father did that doesn't mean I'm like that does it. I wouldn't hurt anyone.' Prowler gave him a funny look. "Liar! How dare you come here and spread those lies!" Moonrise jumped in front of him.
"Common dad can't you please just give him a chance. Do you think he'd honestly come here on his own if he wanted to do anything to us?" Prowler paced up and down in a grumpy rage. Could this creature be trusted? But Moonrise was right. What was the point in him being angry at Salzar's son? Turin didn't kill Prowler. Prowler sighed. "Moonrise I guess your right. Ok I'll trust you this time but if I find you ever hurt any of my family you will be sorry got that got it!" Turin nodded "I promise I wont hurt anyone. What's the point in us fighting each other anyway? I'd rather live in peace" Turin turned round and headed for home.
Prowler turned towards Moonrise "Hey what do you think you were doing bringing him here? You could have been hurt!" Moonrise looked up at her father. "Well I'm fine. He means no harm. He just wants peace like we all do. Why can't you just see that and leave him be?" Prowler scratched his head. "I hope that is the case my dear otherwise we will be in serious trouble.
Chapter 12
The wood was again peaceful. Well at least for now as Salzar had been too busy to do anything about the foxes. Sapphire and Radu's wolf pups were beginning to explore the outside for the first time and they were starting to show their personalities. One of the male wolf pups who had loved to charge around and decided to run off when Sapphire picked the young pup up by the scruff. 'Hey easy Thunder I don't want you running off its too dangerous' Thunder's brother Tate laughed. That will teach you not to keep running off stupid!' Radu looked at Tate with a serious look on his face. 'Tate that's no way to talk to your brother!' Radu gave
Tate a little swipe on his face. The young pup held his head low. 'Sorry dad I didn't mean to.' Radu smiled little. 'That's ok. As long as you apologised that's ok with me.' The two females didn't talk much, they always stayed close to their mother. Star was the youngest of the pups. She was named Star due to the star birthmark on the tip of her tail. The second female was named Hope.
Chapter 1 The strange creature
It was a beautiful winters evening where the stars shone brightly. A sly young fox was walking under the moonlight in Darkwood Forest when he heard a loud scream coming from the distance. The young fox ran towards the sound to see where the noise was coming from and he noticed a young vixen being forced into the corner by a strange looking animal he had never seen before. He looked closer and noticed the large creature had a scar across its face and back.
Sly noticed the terrified look in the poor vixen's eyes as the creature backed her into a corner. 'You are going nowhere my dear!' roared the creature bearing his teeth. 'Please leave me alone. I have done nothing to you. What do you want from me!' the vixen wailed. The creature said nothing but just simply laughed. It prepared to strike the vixen when Sly leapt straight in front of him
'You lay just one paw on her and you'll have me to deal with!' the animal looked at Sly and laughed. 'You scrawny little creature this is nothing to do with you. What on earth do you think you will be able to do? You think you can face Salzar and live? Ha! Not a chance. Back off or both you and this female will be dead!'
Sly became angry and sank his teeth into the creature's leg. Salzar was furious. Salzar managed to break free quickly and lunged for Sly's neck. However Sly was younger and faster and managed to sink his teeth into the lynx's back. Salzar tried his best to throw Sly off but it was no use. He made sure that he did enough to injure the jaguar so the vixen would be safe. Sly could see that Salzar was beaten and he released his grip.
'You haven't seen the last of me young fox! We lynxes will get even one day. Just you wait and see!' and with that Salzar limped off into the distance.
As soon as Salzar was far enough Sly turned his attention towards the vixen. 'Are you ok? That animal didn't hurt you in any way did he?' the vixen shook her head.
'Oh no he didn't. It was lucky you were there at the right time. I don't know what I would of done if you didn't arrive on time, thanks for saving me you were so noble.' Sly blushed. 'It was my pleasure miss. Can't let that creature hurt you. The names Sly' he said happily wagging his tail. 'My names Scarlet pleased to meet you.' The vixen replied with a smile. The two foxes headed away from the edge of the forest.
Chapter 2 The Trap
After the incident with Salzar Sly and Scarlet had fallen for each other instantly. The pair decided to make a new home together. While they were searching they decided to talk with each other. Sly was the first one to speak 'Hey I have never seen you around here before, Where do u live?'
Scarlet looked at Sly with a smile 'Well I used to live in a small wood further away from here but I decided to move here. There weren't many other foxes around there.' The pair of them approached an earth when they noticed another fox pass by. Scarlet froze instantly.
'Don't worry dear its only my idiot of a brother. He's just a big ball of fluff!' Said Sly half laughing. The two foxes greeted each other
'Hey big bro you nutcase how's it …..' Prowler noticed his brother had company. 'And who is this very charming creature?' Scarlet blushed. 'Well Prowler this is my new mate Scarlet' Scarlet looked at Prowler and smiled. 'it's a pleasure to meet you Prowler'
Prowler noticed that Sly was tired. 'Hey bro are you ok? You look bushed. Has something happened?' Sly changed from a smile to a more concerned look. 'There is some weird creature roaming about the forest. He calls himself Salzar. He attacked Scarlet but luckily I managed to stop him.'
Prowler looked at Sly and Scarlet. 'How very odd indeed… actually now you come to mention it I'm sure I saw such a creature yesterday. Looked sort of like a cat. I have never seen anything like him. He's not like those pet cats but much bigger. Wonder how many more of them are around'. Scarlet looked scared 'well I hope there isn't any more around here. I don't want to see such a creature again. It frightened the life out of me. We'll need to be extra vigilant from now on' Sly and Prowler nodded.
Before anyone else could speak the three foxes heard a groaning sound nearby. Sly sniffed the air. 'Sounds like something is in trouble. Quick this way!' The three foxes ran towards the noise and noticed that a wolf was caught in a trap. The wolf noticed the three foxes but was unable to speak.
Sly looked at the struggling animal. 'Right we need to think of something quick otherwise he is done for' Said Sly with a concerning tone. Prowler looked at the trap carefully. 'hmm… looks like this traps made of wire. The more he struggles the tighter it will get. Should be able to chew through it no problem. If I'm careful enough I can bite through it without injuring myself Just stand back' Prowler started to chew at the wire and it began to loosen. 'Almost there. Won't take much longer now'. A moment later the trap sprang open and the wolf was free.
The wolf looked at the three foxes and smiled. 'Thanks. You got here at the right time, I thought I was done for.' Prowler was the first to speak. 'No problem. Glad to be of assistance. That's what we are here for I'm Prowler and this is my brother Sly and his mate Scarlet' The wolf looked at the three foxes. 'It's a pleasure to meet you my name's Radu. I was just walking around the area when the trap caught me'. Scarlet looked at him 'Yeah you get a few of those traps here. They are usually set for rabbits and other small creatures. Humans say the lands overpopulated with them.'
Sly looked at Radu's injured paw. "That looks quite a deep cut you have there. Can you get up?' Radu got up shakily. 'Yeah just about but I doubt I'll get very far.' Scarlet was the next to speak.
'Well our earth isn't very far from here. You can rest there until your foot heals' Radu smiled at her. 'You are very kind, thank you'. The four animals headed for the earth.
Chapter 3 Starlight
As soon as the four animals arrived at Scarlet's earth Prowler decided to go out hunting on his own.
'Right I will leave you three to just rest for awhile and I will bring back some food. I wont be too long' Sly looked at Prowler and smiled 'thanks bro that's very nice of you. See you later'
Prowler decided to head towards the stream as he would be able to find more food there. As he got closer he noticed a vixen hunting nearby. The vixen looked up and noticed Prowler. She was unsure whether the fox would do anything so she backed away slightly growling
'Hey don't worry I wont harm you. I'm only hunting like you.'
The vixen realised he wasn't a threat so she walked a little closer.
'Oh I'm sorry. Its just you need to be careful around these parts. There's too many weird creatures around. My names Starlight what's yours?'
Prowler smiled. 'Such a charming name for a charming creature. I'm Prowler.' Starlight blushed.
Well Prowler care to join me hunting?' Prowler nodded. The foxes headed for the stream.
As the pair reached the Stream Starlight noticed a rabbit on the opposite bank. Carefully Prowler crossed the stream and crept under the long grass. The rabbit started to eat a nearby cowslip. Prowler managed to get closer but noticed the rabbit was starting to turn round and he froze instantly. Luckily the rabbit didn't notice him and it continued to graze. Prowler managed to reach the rabbit but before it could turn round he grabbed it quickly.
Starlight approached Prowler. 'Hey great catch.' Prowler looked up at her. 'Thanks. Did someone tell you how lovely your eyes are?' Starlight laughed. 'Well you are pretty handsome yourself. Do you say this to every girl you meet?' Prowler blushed. 'No only the most beautiful ones' The pair of them nuzzled each other.
'Hey why don't you join me in my earth? There's plenty room' asked starlight curiously.
'It sounds like a very nice offer but I promised my brother that I would get him some food.' Starlight looked sad.
'Well since we are going the same way why don't I show you my home and you can join me later when you have seen him.'
'Ok once I see my brother I promise will be straight back' replied Prowler with a smile. Once he and starlight reached the earth Prowler headed for Sly's home.
Meanwhile near the edge of the forest Salzar had finally reached home where he found his mate Sasha waiting for him. 'Where on earth have you been? I have been worried sick. You have been gone for a few days!' Sasha noticed Salzar's injured leg.
'My dear noble Salzar what on earth happened to your leg?' Salzar looked down at his mate.
'Oh nothing it's just a little scratch really.' Sasha became angry.
'Its more than a little scratch. Tell me what happened this second!'
Salzar knew that there was no way he could fool his mate. He told her the full story.
Prowler managed to reach Sly's earth and noticed Sly was awake.
'Hey bro! Sleep well? Here I brought you some food'
Sly looked at his brother. 'Yeah I slept like a log. Radu feels a lot better now so he decided to go home. Thanks for the….' Sly noticed the look on Prowlers face.
'Hey something up little bro?' Prowler smiled a little.
'Well I met a vixen and she asked me to come to her home.' Sly laughed
'Ooh Prowler you sly little devil. Hey go over to her we will be fine.
Prowler smiled back at his brother and headed for Starlight's earth.
Back near the edge of the forest Salzar noticed the look on Sasha's face. But was there something wrong? He decided to question his mate.
'Are you OK Sasha? You look exhausted.' Sasha smiled at her mate. 'Well that's because I'm having your kits. Once they are fully grown they can help you get rid of those foxes once and for all!
Chapter 4 Sapphire
As winter approached into spring the weather started to turn very hot indeed. Scarlet had given birth to 6 cubs. Starlight was also lucky as she had given birth to 5.
Meanwhile Radu was strolling around the forest but he started to feel the heat.
'Man it's too hot today. I suppose I better go and get something to drink.' He said as he wiped his forehead. Radu decided to go to the lake where he knew he would feel better. As soon as Radu approached the stream he bent down and began to drink. The water was cool and refreshing so he decided to go for a swim.
A while later he came out of the water when he noticed a female wolf on the opposite side. Radu decided to go over and introduce himself to the female. The other wolf noticed Radu approaching and looked up at him curiously
'Now Radu don't panic. You don't want to hurt her. Just walk up to her and say hi' he thought to himself.
The female noticed that he meant no harm and she bent down for a drink. 'Er… lovely weather today… isn't it.'
The female looked up at him and noticed the nervous look on his face.
The female walked up to him and gazed into his eyes.
'Oh yeah it's such a perfect day for a… swim!' and with that she shoved him in the stream and she burst out laughing.
Radu quickly scrambled out of the water. 'Now that wasn't a very nice thing to do now was it' said Radu trying not to laugh himself.
The female looked at him. 'Oh I'm very sorry. You're not hurt are you?' But before the female could do anything Radu pushed her into the water. Radu decided to jump in after her and the wolves started splashing around like little pups.
A few minutes later the pair of wolves came out of the water. 'Radu was the first wolf to speak. 'Right now that we are officially soaked I think its time we introduced ourselves. My name's Radu' he said half laughing. 'Pleased to meet you I'm Sapphire' replied the female with a smile.
The 2 wolves had fallen for each other instantly. The pair had just settled into their new home when Radu decided to visit Sly and Scarlet with Sapphire.
When the 2 wolves reached the earth they only found Scarlet there.
Scarlet greeted them with a smile.
'Hey Radu its nice to see you again. I see you have found a mate.' Sapphire blushed.
'Radu told me what happened when you met him. I'm ever so greatful what Prowler did for him'
Radu looked worried. 'hey Scarlet where's Sly?' Scarlet looked at him. 'Oh no everything's fine he and Prowler have just gone out hunting for a while. They shouldn't be too long.' Radu and Sapphire said goodbye to Scarlet headed for home.
Salzar decided to check out Starlight's cubs for himself so he headed for her earth. As he approached the earth he slowly crept inside. Luckily both Radu and Sapphire were heading the same way and they noticed the lynx.
'Hey you! Trying to attack a mother and her young cubs are you?' Radu asked curiously. Salzar hit his head on the top of the earth. At that moment Starlight heard the noise and backed the cubs further inside. Salzar looked angry.
'What's it to you, you stupid creature?' roared Salzar in a grumpy rage.
At that moment Sly and Prowler appeared. Salzar noticed he was outnumbered so he decided to head for home. Starlight came outside and noticed Sly prowler and Radu.
'What on earth was that creature doing round here?' Prowler gave his mate a concerned look.
'I shouldn't of left you and the cubs alone. What was I thinking? He could have killed you all.' Starlight nuzzled her mate.
'Well nothing happened did it. Everyone is fine'.
Sly looked at both Prowler and starlight.
'But for how long will this last? We must be extra vigilant from now on'
Chapter 5 A Close Call
Weeks later all the cubs were allowed to explore outside but because what had happened before both Sly and Prowler made sure they kept a close watch on them all and that they didn't stray too far. Both Starlight's and Scarlet's cubs were showing their own personalities.
The smallest of Scarlet's cubs was always jumping on small creatures that were scurrying around and he managed to snap up a few. Both Sly and Scarlet thought he'd be quite the hunter. The 2 twin males were named Catcher and Snatcher for obvious reasons. The three females only seemed to be lively at certain times of the day and were names Skylight, Sunlight and Moonlight.
The largest of Prowler's cubs was named after him as they had similar colourings on their fur. The smallest cub seemed to love scavenging for scraps so he was named Scavenger. Finally the three females were named Sunrise, Moonrise and Midnight for the shades of their fur.
Back at Radu's home Radu left Sapphire sleeping and he decided to visit Prowler and Starlight to see how they were faring. As soon as he approached the earth little Prowler jumped right in front of him and he started to growl.
'Oi Prowler calm down he's a friend.' The little cub stopped growling as he saw his father and he went back to his mother.
'Sorry bout that Radu o'l mate. He always gets carried away like that' Radu smiled at his friend.
'No problem pal. He looks so much like his father.'
Prowler laughed. 'Yeah just like me when I was a cub. Anyway how are you and Sapphire?' Radu smiled.
'Yeah we are both fine thanks. She is due to have pups soon.' Prowler smiled back at his friend.
'That's wonderful news pal! Well tell her we are all asking for her.' Radu nodded and he headed for Sly's home.
Meanwhile Moonlight had strayed too far from home. The cubs were playing a game of hide and seek and she didn't realise how far she had strayed. Suddenly Moonlight felt a chill down her spine.
'Oh dear its getting cold out here. But how do I get home?' Just as she finished speaking a lynx appeared. However this wasn't Salzar but one of his offspring.
'Oh no you wont be going anywhere. My father has sent me to sort that out.' Moonlight started to run but the young lynx managed to catch up to her. The cub prepared to strike when Radu appeared.
The lynx was no match for the wolf as he was much smaller so he headed for home.
'You are a lucky girl but wait till my father finds out. He will kill you all.' Roared the young cat as he ran off into the distance.
Radu turned his attention to Moonlight. 'Moonlight are you ok? What on earth are you doing so far from home? Didn't your father tell you not to go too far' Moonlight explained to Radu what had happened.
'At least your safe. I better take you home now. Just follow me and stay close.' Radu led Moonlight back home.
Back at Sly's earth Scarlet had realised Moonlight was missing. She turned her attention to the other cubs.
'Hey have any of you seen Moonlight?' Said Scarlet worriedly 'I can't find her anywhere.' Hunter walked up to his Mother with a concerned look on his face. 'Mother we were playing a game and she wondered off' Scarlet looked worried. 'I told you to stay near the den. Where on earth could she…' Before she could finish her sentence Radu and Moonlight appeared.
'Where on earth have you been Moonlight? Your father and I were worried sick!' Radu explained what had happened.
'Nobody will be safe as long as those lynxes are around.' Scarlet said worriedly. Sly walked up to his mate.
'Well we will need to be very careful, we can't leave the cubs on their own for a while. We will need to take turns when we go out hunting.' Scarlet nodded in agreement. Catcher and Snatcher both looked at each other. 'oh man no fun for us thanks Moonlight'
Chapter 6
Prowler had heard about what happened with his niece Moonlight from his brother Sly so he decided to keep a close eye on his cubs. Moonrise started to wander off when Prowler picked her up by the scruff. 'Oh no you don't missy you know what I said about wondering off on your own. You know what happened to your cousin when she did that.' Prowler let go of her. 'I'm sorry daddy I promise I won't wander off anymore.' Scavenger laughed at his sister. 'Yeah right. I wander how long that promise will last' Moonrise hit Scavenger in the face. 'You're the one who can't keep promises here. I'm a good girl' Moonrise poked her tongue out at Scavenger. Starlight looked at the pair of them. 'Now both of you can't you behave for one second. Please listen to your father he knows what he's talking about' Moonrise and Scavenger looked at their mother. 'Yes mum sorry mum we'll behave promise'
Chapter 7 new homes
As the weeks passed Sapphire had given birth to 4 wolf pups. The four foxes made sure they kept an eye on the cubs. Luckily they didn't see the lynxes again.
A month later Sapphire had given birth to the cubs were old enough to leave their parents and find a home for themselves. Catcher and Snatcher made sure that they stayed together.
'Right I know you are all old enough to look after yourselves but remember you must be careful. Don't go wandering too near Salzar's territory.' Catcher looked at his mother. 'Hey mom don't worry I'll look after Snatcher for ya'. Scarlet gave him an odd look.
Sly looked at him angrily 'hey Catcher its no laughing matter. You know what happened to Moonlight. We don't want that to happen again. Just make sure that you all look after yourselves. If you find you are in trouble you can always give us a call. We are all here for you if needed.' Hunter went over to his mother and nuzzled her. 'Hey mom don't worry we will all be fine' and with that the cubs went their separate ways.. Well everyone except Catcher and Snatcher of course.
Prowler's cubs were also old enough to leave home. Scavenger decided to go it alone whilst Sunrise and Midnight stayed together. Young Prowler decided to stay with his parents for a little while longer.
Catcher and Snatcher managed to find an old abandoned earth. The pair couldn't smell the scent of foxes so they decided to settle inside.
'Finally we can live on our own. Now we can do what ever we like' said Snatcher to Catcher. 'Yeah and no parents to tell us what to do either!' replied his brother with a smile. 'Well I hope the others will be all right. I'm sure they will be able to look after themselves.'
Meanwhile Moonlight had decided to find a new home near the river. She made sure that she made a home far away from Salzar's territory as she didn't want to make the same mistake again. She found a nice spot near a tree and began to dig. Moments later a young male fox walked up behind her.
'Hey there I haven't seen you around this area before'. Moonlight jumped with a start. 'Hey you scared me half to death! Don't do that!' the young fox smiled at her. 'Oh I'm sorry I didn't mean to give you a fright. I shouldn't have sneaked up behind you like that. Anyway the names Blitz what's yours?' 'Oh hey Blitz I'm Moonlight pleased to meet you' she replied with a smile.
'Well Moonlight want me to give you a hand with making your home?' Moonlight looked up at him. 'Yeah it will be done twice as fast with both of us doing it'
Both Skylight and Sunlight decided to stay together for a little while longer until they could find a suitable home. 'Its kinda weird now we are going on our own it just seems too quiet without the others. Think mother will be ok?' asked Sunlight worriedly. 'I'm sure she will be fine. Dad's with her after all. He will look after her. We'll do fine on our own' replied her sister.
Scavenger was the next cub to find a home of his own. He settled inside and fell fast asleep. When he awoke he noticed a female fox in front of him and he woke with a start. 'Hey I'm sorry for waking you. I didn't realise anyone stayed here.' Scavenger stood up and looked at the vixen. 'Oh no trouble at all miss. I needed to get up anyway!' The two foxes laughed. 'Anyway now you woke me up care to go hunting?' 'Sure. I'd be glad to join you' replied the vixen with a smile.
Chapter 7 Crimson
It was a cold evening when Scavenger and the vixen went out hunting. There were a number of creatures scurrying around trying to get home. Scavenger managed to grab some quickly as they passed. The vixen was also quick at picking off mice.
'You are very quick at hunting. We are lucky that it's so cold out here' Scavenger looked at the vixen 'I suppose so. You are very quick too. Oops I forgot to mention my name. I'm Scavenger'. The vixen looked up at him. 'I can see why you got that name' said the vixen with a smile 'Its nice to meet you Scavenger I'm Crimson.'
Scavenger looked up at the vixen. 'Oh such a charming name for a charming creature' Had Scavenger been hanging around his uncle a lot? Scavenger seemed to say exactly what Prowler had said to Starlight when they had met. Oh why couldn't he think of his own thing to say!
The vixen laughed. 'Well not many foxes say that to me' Scavenger looked surprised. 'What really? Why not' Crimson looked at him 'well cause the ones that do are losers.' Scavenger looked worried. 'Do… do you think I'm a loser? What did I do wrong?' Crimson nuzzled him. 'Oh no I can see that you wouldn't hurt me. You seem so caring' Scavenger breathed a sigh of relief 'well I need to be. Our family has had trouble with some creatures. My father is very caring too. If he didn't save my mother's life I wouldn't of been here' Crimson looked worried 'why what happened to your mother?' Scavenger explained to her what had happened.
Meanwhile Catcher and Snatcher were also out hunting. They noticed 2 vixens nearby. 'Hey Snatcher lets go over and introduce ourselves' Catcher pushed him towards the vixens. 'Hey what on earth are you doing bro?' Snatcher asked curiously. 'ER well.. I'd thought you can introduce the two of us.' Snatcher swiped his brother across the head. 'oh I see what's going on' he said with a smile. Your scared of them!' Catcher perked up instantly oh no. I just thought you would want the privilege of talking to them' he said half laughing.
The two vixens had noticed the look on the twin's faces so they decided to go over to them. 'you two scared to come over eh? Oh common we won't bite. Well only a little' Catcher and Snatcher looked up at them. 'oh no. we were just er… deciding on where to go hunting.' The largest of the vixens laughed. 'well why not go hunting with us? I'm sure we will love the company. And I promise you we aren't that bad!' Catcher and Snatcher nodded. The four foxes headed for the river.
Chapter 8 A cunning plan
The following morning was extremely hot and Hunter was lying in the sun. 'It seems to get just hotter and hotter each day. It's so boring today. There's just simply nothing to do. Might as well see how Starlight and Prowler are coping' he thought to himself. Hunter decided to go to their home. He ended up getting half way there when he saw young Prowler drinking at the river. 'Well at least Prowler is ok. Wonder what he's up to. Maybe he has finally decided to find a home for himself. Might as well go over and talk to him I have nothing better to do really'
Hunter noticed that Salzar was creeping right behind Prowler. 'Prowler watch out behind you!' but before the young fox could turn round Salzar had managed to grab him and dragged the young fox away. Hunter had no choice but to run and find both Prowler and Starlight.
Meanwhile Sly was out hunting. He noticed Hunter dashing past and saw the look on his face. 'Hey Hunter what's the matter?' Hunter skidded to a halt and walked over to his father. 'Dad. Its Prowler.. Salzar took him!' Hunter explained to Sly what he had seen.
'So Salzar has decided to capture one of us. Looks like he was just waiting for the right time. He must have some plan up his sleeve.' Both Sly and Hunter went over to Prowler's earth.
The two foxes noticed Prowler lying out of his home. As soon as the pair walked up to him. Prowler noticed instantly that something was wrong. Sly explained to him what had happened. 'so he thinks he can mess with my family. We will need to do something about that.' Hunter looked at him. 'Shouldn't you tell Starlight what has happened?' he asked curiously. Prowler looked down at him. 'I don't want to get her involved. She will be heartbroken. We must go save him ourselves' Hunter and Sly nodded in agreement.
Meanwhile Salzar had managed to get home and he tossed young Prowler in a cave. 'Right boy I have plans for you. Just watch when your parents come for you. We will be ready for them!' Prowler became angry. 'You monster! Leave them out of this!' Salzar looked at the young fox and laughed. 'I hate to say but your family are very much in this. You think they won't come to your aid? They will either have to fight for you or die trying!' and with that Salzar knocked Prowler unconscious into the cave wall.
Turin looked at his father. 'dad are you sure this will work? What if something goes wrong?' Salzar looked at the young lynx angrily. Stupid boy do you honestly think those puny foxes can beat me? We will be ready for them when they arrive. We can get rid of those meddlesome foxes once and for all!'
Chapter 9 a hard lesson
The three foxes quickly headed for Salzar's territory. Prowler mad sure that they got there as quickly as possible. 'Right we need to see if we can find where they are hiding' Sly said to his brother. Prowler looked at him. 'If Salzar has done anything to him I'll….' The three foxes headed into the cave. Prowler noticed his son on the floor and he ran to him. 'Hey Prowler what have they done to you.' The young fox looked frightened. 'No dad it's a trap!' before they could do anything a group of lynxes surrounded them.
'Well well well look what the cat dragged in!' Salzar appeared in the middle of the other lynxes. Prowler became angry. 'You will return my son at once!' Salzar looked at him and laughed. 'You puny creature what are you going to do about it'. Prowler looked up at Salzar. 'Brought your followers with you have you. You are just scared.' Salzar laughed. Scared am I? I'll show you how scared I am!' Salzar lunged at Prowlers neck but Prowler managed to dodge. The two animals circled each other. Prowler tried to run at the jaguar but Salzar moved out of the way and he fell on the floor. Salzar managed to grab hold of Prowlers neck.
'Dad no!' young Prowler had run at Salzar and grabbed hold of his leg. Salzar yelped in pain. Young Prowler was unable to keep hold of Salzar's leg and the lynx saw his chance. Salzar grabbed hold of young Prowlers neck. The young fox tried to break free but it was no use. Salzar held fast onto young Prowler and sank his teeth into his neck. Young Prowler fell to the floor with a thud.
Prowler noticed his son on the floor and he became angry. 'You'll pay for doing that to him you stupid animal!' Prowler lunged at Salzar in a grumpy rage. Salzar attempted to move out of the way but it was no use. Prowler grabbed hold of Salzar's scruff. The jaguar tried his best to break free but Prowler held fast. Hunter and Sly grabbed hold of Salzar from the back and he roared with pain.
Prowler managed to sink his jaws deeply into Salzar's neck. The lynx roared but it was no use and he fell to the floor. 'you.. won't.. get away with this.. I will get you back.. wait and see. Before Prowler and Sly could stop him Salzar limped off.
When the three foxes knew Salzar was far enough Prowler ran over to his son. 'Hey Prowler lil buddy you will be ok. He's gone.' Young Prowler looked up at his father. 'dad its too late i'm done… for… tell… mother… and everyone…. I love them….' Young Prowler breathed for the last time and died in Prowlers arms.
Prowler broke down in tears. 'Nooo this can't be! It can't end like this!.' Sly walked up to his brother. Im sorry Prowler but he really has gone. You did your best' Prowler looked up at his brother. 'it wasn't good enough. Oh why did I let him go away!' Prowler cried on Sly's shoulder. Sly looked at him. 'Don't worry Prowler I will make sure that Salzar pays for what he has done. One day!'
Chapter 10 Mourning a loved one
Sly had broken the news to Starlight what had happened and she rushed towards the den where she found Prowler lying over the young cub's body. 'How could I leave him by himself. What on earth was I thinking, I should have protected him.' Tears started to flood in Starlight's eyes. Starlight laid down next to her mate. 'Prowler its not your fault. Stop blaming yourself. You did all you could to protect him. Who knew this would happen. He had to leave home one day'
Prowler looked angry. 'Why didn't I just kill him in the first place. If I did Prowler wouldn't be dead.' Sly looked at his brother.
'I feel partly to blame. If I killed him when I first saw him….' Scarlet looked at him. 'What's done is done. You shouldn't blame yourselves.'
Radu looked up at them. 'Yeah she's right Prowler. You weren't to know this would happen what else could you of done?' Prowler smiled a little. 'I suppose so. But it doesn't bring the pain away'. Radu comforted his friend 'I know it hurts but he had a good life. Neither of us will forget him. The four animals carried young Prowler's body towards the stream.
The cubs were told what had happened to young Prowler and they all gathered around the stream where they buried him. Unfortunately Sapphire couldn't join them as she was looking after the wolf pups.
Prowler looked up at Starlight and nuzzled her. 'He always loved this spot it's a perfect place for him. He would have wanted to be buried here'
Scavenger looked at his father. 'But what are we going to do about Salzar? We don't want this sort of thing to happen again do we?' Radu looked at the foxes 'Well I don't think Salzar will strike soon. He wouldn't be stupid enough to do anything for a long time. We will just need to ensure everyone is ready for when the time comes'.
Prowler looked back at the spot where he buried his son. The animals headed for home. Radu headed for his den where he noticed Sapphire lying next to the pups. Sapphire looked up at him and smiled a little. 'How's Prowler and the others coping?' she asked curiously. Radu looked down at her. 'Well Prowlers not good at the moment. He blames himself for the death of little Prowler' Sapphire nuzzled him. 'He just needs to spend some time with Starlight. The pain wont go away but they should feel a little better soon. Radu smiled a little. 'Yeah but will we be able to live in peace. How long will it last?
Chapter 11 A new Friend
A few weeks passed after the death of young Prowler. The animals were now very wary as Salzar could strike at any time. Salzar had been recovering over the incident from the foxes. A young lynx walked up to his father.
'Do we really need to fight the foxes? They have done nothing wrong'. Salzar gave his son an odd look. 'Done nothing wrong aye? They don't deserve to live here!'
Turin looked back at his father. 'Can't we just live with the foxes in peace? They don't want any trouble' Salzar hit Turin across the face. 'Don't be silly boy they are out to kill us! How long do you think we'll be here if we don't get rid of them. They'll be after our necks first!' Turin started to walk away from his father. 'Well you can think what you want. I don't think they mean any harm and to prove it i'm going to find one of them and talk to them!' and with that Turin ran off into the distance.
Meanwhile Moonrise was drinking by the pond when she noticed a figure of a lynx. The young female backed away and started growling.
'Hey what are you growling at me for? I mean you no harm'. Moonrise looked up at him. 'But your Salzar's son how can I trust you?' Turin looked at her
'Just because I'm a lynx like my father it doesn't mean I'm bad. Look I am nothing like my father. I don't understand why he wants to fight. I just want to be friends with you.' Moonrise gave him a little smile. 'Sounds like your telling me the truth, you should speak to my father.' Turin nodded and the 2 animals headed for Prowler's earth.
Prowler was laying in the sun when he noticed Moonrise with Turin. He ran right at him growling. "You lynx how dare you come here after what you did!" Turin looked at him
'After what I did?' Turin questioned him. 'I have done nothing wrong. Just because my father did that doesn't mean I'm like that does it. I wouldn't hurt anyone.' Prowler gave him a funny look. "Liar! How dare you come here and spread those lies!" Moonrise jumped in front of him.
"Common dad can't you please just give him a chance. Do you think he'd honestly come here on his own if he wanted to do anything to us?" Prowler paced up and down in a grumpy rage. Could this creature be trusted? But Moonrise was right. What was the point in him being angry at Salzar's son? Turin didn't kill Prowler. Prowler sighed. "Moonrise I guess your right. Ok I'll trust you this time but if I find you ever hurt any of my family you will be sorry got that got it!" Turin nodded "I promise I wont hurt anyone. What's the point in us fighting each other anyway? I'd rather live in peace" Turin turned round and headed for home.
Prowler turned towards Moonrise "Hey what do you think you were doing bringing him here? You could have been hurt!" Moonrise looked up at her father. "Well I'm fine. He means no harm. He just wants peace like we all do. Why can't you just see that and leave him be?" Prowler scratched his head. "I hope that is the case my dear otherwise we will be in serious trouble.
Chapter 12
The wood was again peaceful. Well at least for now as Salzar had been too busy to do anything about the foxes. Sapphire and Radu's wolf pups were beginning to explore the outside for the first time and they were starting to show their personalities. One of the male wolf pups who had loved to charge around and decided to run off when Sapphire picked the young pup up by the scruff. 'Hey easy Thunder I don't want you running off its too dangerous' Thunder's brother Tate laughed. That will teach you not to keep running off stupid!' Radu looked at Tate with a serious look on his face. 'Tate that's no way to talk to your brother!' Radu gave
Tate a little swipe on his face. The young pup held his head low. 'Sorry dad I didn't mean to.' Radu smiled little. 'That's ok. As long as you apologised that's ok with me.' The two females didn't talk much, they always stayed close to their mother. Star was the youngest of the pups. She was named Star due to the star birthmark on the tip of her tail. The second female was named Hope.
