    Hello, Air Pichu here.

    I have a quick question - Can you delete one of your own Social Groups or can only a mod do this? When I go to the page where you view the Social Groups and everything, I see a feature where you can delete your social group. I attempted to access this, but it won't let me. So can only moderators delete Social Groups?

    Thanks.

    I'm not sure regular mods can, but h-staff can.

    If you ever want a social group deleted, just ask one of us, we can do it.

    nope. I'm sure I deleted mone with no problem. dont know why yours won't..
    maybe go on the the social group and click 'delete'

    I've had to delete a few groups before, because the creators couldn't. So either the Delete Group button is hard to find, or not everyone has the option.. o O;

    We can't. Not too long ago, we used to only have the permission to delete discussions / edit posts in discussions, but that was taken away along with vm powers, iirc. So now we're basically like members when it comes to social groups!

    I can confirm that the creator no longer has the permission to delete the group. I hope that these permissions get fixed so that everyone can simply delete the groups they own...unless that permission was revoked on purpose by staff decision.

    Still I can understand removing edit permissions from creators & moderators...that stops potential problems...but delete permissions should still be granted to the group creator if you ask me.

    I'm fairly certain we chose not to allow group creator's the ability to delete their own groups for a number of understandable reasons. When we created the section, we had hope that it would become an organized and active ordeal (and in some cases, they are, but in 98% of all groups, they are not). Essentially, the thinking was that these groups would get a lot of organized discussion, and if the owner decided to delete the social group for no good reason, then a lot of records would be lost, and people would not be happy to have all their social group work go up in smoke.

    Also, people generally tend to delete things hastily without thinking it over. The chance of someone deleting their own group and regretting it later on was a possibility. I'd normally be okay with that, since it's their own fault, but it would affect the regular members. Really, if you don't want to run a group anymore, you can give the ownership to another member anyways. Coming to an hstaff would only take a day at most, and it guarantees the member is trying to delete it for some stupid reason.

    That said, I don't think we'll be giving the power to group owners anymore. While social groups may not be organized right now, it's better if we at least have control over that aspect, especially as we're looking into new ways to deal with the groups in the future.
