I've been curious about this for quite some time, and I am wondering if you buy a new DS (for whatever reason), must you obtain a new friend code? It says when setting up your friend code that it "treats the game pack and DS as a system".

If this is true, then it would be a bit of a PITA if you had a full list of friends and you had to buy a new DS, only to lose your friend code.

Hmmm mine all disappeared yes. A new DS usually means a new friend code. HOWEVER. On the nintendo website somewhere there is a guide to transfering your friend code over. :] It's definitely worth doing that. I figured that after I sold my old DS... xD Dang.

Oh, I remember you need both DS's around to transfer it over. :] I'm sure you can find it.

So the friend code would change, but the rest of your game info stays the same, right?

Oh, nothing in your actual game would change. The friend code works in unison with the WiFi, an outside source. Thinking about it now, it was a stupid question, but worth some inquiry.

Thank you Athena for letting me in on that little tid bit! I've been thinking about buying a new DS (a black DS light, which of course came out AFTER I bought the white DS light), and that would save me a lot of trouble.

In Wi-Fi Settings on the old DS, click Transfer Wi-Fi Configuration, then hit Download Play on the new DS. The configuration, your friend code, and all your friend lists will be transferred to the new DS and erased from the old one. I've done this like twice. :P

Oh awesome. I want to get a new DS Lite too (I have a red DS Phat), but I was under the impression that the DS was storing the game's memory. Thanks for the clarification!

No problemo. :] I was wondering the same thing when I traded my oldschool block silver DS for a new shiny pink DS lite<3 And no, nothing in the actual game is changed. You'd just have to redo your whole friend list if you don't transfer it over. :]
