I am a big fan of the games (good story and humour... great combination) and have put many hours into these games.
I have over 800 hours on the original game split between the PS2 and PSP versions, including Etna mode on PSP. I have played the DS version which is the most complete version of the series (though you lose out on some(?) of the voice acting).
Disgaea 2 I have not played as much but completed the Japanese version on PS2 and the US version on the PSP, including the DLC for the game. I still have the alternate storyline to play. I did buy the US version of the PS2 game but never completed it.
I put in a fair number of hours (400ish) on the third game (on PS3). I bought the US version (due to not wanting to wait for a UK version) and have one of the characters levels maxxed out (around 170,000 levels!) and can now level characters ridiculously fast. I also bought the DLC for the game. I subsequently bought the UK release (cheap!) though I have not played it to the same extent.
