do the games cater for older audiences?

ok, so we all know how the anime (with a couple exceptions) routinely ignores old viewers who have been with it from the beginning. but my question is, do you think that the games are doing the opposite? what with all the massive pokedex, and old pokemon like blaziken and mewtwo getting new mega evolutions. it seems a bit of a steep ask for new players to absorb so much, whereas older players would be able to adapt much easier.

for example, the corocoro scans supposedly say that theres going to be a torchic distribution to go with the release of x and y, so you can get megablaziken. that wont be any persuasion for new players, but people like me who had a torchic as their first ever starter would all probably jump at the chance.

so while the anime remains beginner friendly, do you think the games are possibly trying to appeal to an older audience more?

(sorry if this should be in gaming general)

This does seem to be mostly directed towards the games, so yeah, I can move this over to Gaming Central for you.

And personally, I think that there doing some of these things like adding Mega Evolutions to both interest the older players, but also make older Pokemon more prominent to the new players, as well. I think another good example of this was the PWT in B/W2 as well, which was a fun tournament for players both new and old, but it also brought back characters we hadn't seen for quite a while, which was a nice surprise.

Pokemon has always target both ever since the first game. As i've voiced out in [another post], Pokemon is actually deep and shallow at the same time. It's like the open sea: Kids may stay at the shoreline, while the adults may go into the deeper parts. Nintendo gave everyone exactly that option.

The learning curve (basics) of the main storyline is light enough for younger audience to enjoy, and the metagame is catered towards the mature audience. End result: Adults and children alike could enjoy the game equally. Nintendo's been doing quite well in keeping that balance for over a decade.

I feel like Black and White tried to cater to older audiences with the story. I'm pretty sure most younger players didn't care, and just skipped it all.
