This is a big part of the game for me. Maybe I got the idea from the way the gym leaders and such operate, but a mismatched group of Pokes that have no unifying theme other than being strong is incredibly boring to me.

I love birds (obviously), so I tend to go with a bird theme. Here's my current Platinum lineup:

    Empoleon (male)
    Level: 100
    HP: 334
    Attack: 189
    Defense: 237
    Sp. Atk: 311
    Sp. Def: 263
    Speed: 181
    Ability: Torrent
    Nature: Modest
    Held Item: Focus Sash
Moves: Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Grass Knot, Stealth Rock

    Ability: Intimidate
    Nature: Adamant
    Held Item: Choice Band
Moves: Return, Brave Bird, Close Combat, U-Turn

    Noctowl (female)

Tell me about your theme teams!

My teams are usually a mismatched bunch. I had a remarkably blue team in my Emerald game, though. xD; But that was a coincidence. I have looked at other colors, though, and I might try for a yellow or a green team in HG.

The only thing currently that I could argue links my team is nicknames. I like choosing a naming scheme and sticking to it (well, at least for the main team). My theme in Platinum was adding "a" to the end of the last syllable/couple letters of the Pokemon's name (when I got it, so my Rapidash is Taa and my Luxray is Nxa, for example). :>

I also have an all-Drowzee team because I love tapirs so much. They're all named after real tapirs from my local zoos.

I suffer from what I refer to as Red-Syndrome (building a team consisting of a Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Psychic, and Normal-Type.) I always have one, even with dual-types.

Hmm, well... Hmm... I don't partake in competitive battles, but I compete in contests. My team is normally composed of members of the Fairy Egg Group.

In regular playthroughs, I usually just use the same old boring grass/water/fire/electric/flying/ground formula.

On challenge playthroughs and for fun, noncompetitive team builds, I like to make teams of poison, dark, ghost, and bug pokemon that kinda encompass a scary/deadly theme. :D

I have no theme, really (unless you want to say I have a theme of "My personal favorite Pokemon" 8D)

But... uh, I do have a pattern? I always use Haunter. Always. Always. ...Where available, at least, since you can't get a wild one in Sapphire.

i would say i mostly run rock/ground pokemon because my element is earth! XD

Because of you, my keyboard is covered in coffee.

I don't really have a scheme. I generally try and keep them all different types but I have a naming scheme. It started with naming my Raichu Lt. Surge then I ended up with CPL. Leaf, SgtFeather, etc...

i like traing the more realisic pokemon
    ex:cradlily is sea anemone
    manectric is a jackal
    arecanine is a dog
flygon is a dragonfly(it is in the bug breeding group)
    bellasoom is a flower
nidoqueen is a rhinoceroses with cnidocytes
    omastar is a Ammonite
    swellow is a barn sawllow
    gyardose is a sea serpent.
    torkoal is a Galapagos tortious

all of those ive train hard! (doing torkoal right now)

    but the ones like
nosepass and some others like that
    i just stay away from
    haha
    all

Judging from your original post, this is more to do with the Pokemon Games rather that Pokemon in general so I'll move this thread over the General Pokemon Gaming.

    Thread Moved.

My theme is usually all psychic types.
I'm honestly not sure why I'm infatuated with them.
    I just.. love em. <3

I generally end up with a mainly Fire and Dragon team, sometimes with a Gyrados in there. My stereotypical in-game team is:
    -Charizard
    -Typhlosion
    -Rayquaza
    -Dragonite
    -Gyrados
-Entai/Arcanine/Houndoom/whatever the heck Fire type I happen to catch.

I once built up a bird team as well, in Emerald. I think I had
    -Blaziken
-Pelipper (wasn't supposed to have one at first, but it could learn some useful Electric attacks)
    -Golduck
    -Skarmory
    -Altaria
    -Xatu
-Swellow (supported until I got the team together)
If I did one now I'd replace other Water type with Empoleon. I also considered Dodrio, but there wasn't enought room for one. It was a fun team to have. :3

I usually go with my preferred Pokémon, NOT by how strong they are or anything. But when I DO have a theme in mind (by that, I mean when I've completed the game and have nothing else to do), I most often have a team with high Defense.

Type wise I've got Ghost (Mismagius, Dusknoir, Spiritomb) and Water (Empoleon, Kingdra, Milotic, Gorebyss, Starmie) fever. Pokemon wise, it's a tie between charming Pokemon (Clefable, Lopunny, Milotic, Bellossom) and ambiguous Pokemon (Electrode, Weezing, Dusknoir, Magnezone, Starmie)

im a dragon/fire addict, usually my team would consist of 3 dragons, 2 fires and something like a swampert or tyranitar
