Alternatively... there are competitions (one coming up very soon) which do give out supporter tiers as prizes, allowing you to get supporter permissions (which includes profile permissions).

Forever posted this and I wanted to give PC feedback on it.
I'm strongly against the idea of giving a supporter tiers as prizes from PC it's-self. The supporter tier is for people how have the money, and would like to donate to PC to support it. I don't think that it should be given as a prize as the winner will not be supporting PC.
Giving away it as a prize will just turn the idea of supporting, totally inside out.

I'm all for the idea of giving out supporter perks as a prize, but not the tier.

Hope you take this into consideration.

I understand where you are coming from, but it is just a nice prize for a individual who has put effort into a competition.
We don't give them out very often, in fact, it is a very new prize if I recall.

As far as I am aware, it is the easiest and most convenient way to give a member the perks without having to set up a new form of user on the Admin CP and placing them under that, that might even be a simpler way of doing it.

I understand your concern, but as a supporter who did donate, I don't think it will effect the idea of being a supporter at all really, since it isn't like everyone and his dog will get it.

In any Official PC ran contest/event where a prize other then emblems are offered, we usually have a choice of a PC supporters tier OR an Amazon gift card of the same value. In this case, it would be PC offering the $ for the winner's supporter tier. (its a promotional cost and part of our little to none advertising budget, and more often then not, comes out of my pocket.)

Most uses seem to be fully OK with the supporters status boost as their prize.

Now, I can also see your point too, which is why these types of events (and prizes) only happen rarely. We do not want to 'cheapen' the whole supporters thing at all, but since this is promoting activity at PC, we feel the benefit outweighs any of the negatives.
