So I finally tried to make a real team on pokemon X (I'm not getting ORAS for at least a week) instead of just throwing in random competitive pokes. It's principally for doubles, and it has made much more better than I thought (or maybe I've just battled bad players). Here it is:
TL;DR: The star of this team. Hits hard. Hits fast. It's sneaky and annoying, served me pretty good.
Aerodactyl @ Aerodactylite
Unnerve->Though Claws
Jolly
252atk/252spe/4hp
-Protect
-Ice Fang
-Rock slide
-Sky drop
One of the reasons behind the selection of most of the pokes in this team was because I wanted to experiment with Sky Drop.
Aerodactyl is one of the fastest pokemon, so its Sky Drop will almost always be the first attack, which lets me decide what poke is going to be out for that turn and helps me mess up some strategies because I can focus on hitting one pokemon without letting it hit back. Also, mega aero's ability boosts the power of this attack.
Protect is one of the most useful moves in the set, along with sky drop it helps me mantain aerodactyl alive for many turns, and as aero is leading most of the times I need something for fake out, and protect is perfect.
Ice fang is there for dragons, if I haven't mega evolved yet, unnerve cancels yache berry, and if I did, Though Claws boosts ice fang power.
I use rock slide because it's STAB, it's a spread move, has a chance of flinching (aero tends to hit first) and completily wrecks Charizard and Talonflame.
TL;DR: This guy was surprinsingly good. Saved my ass many times, people maybe underrate him because they let him roam free punching everything on its way.
Machamp @ Sitrus Berry
No Guard
Adamant
252atk/252hp/4def
-Dynamic Punch
-Quick Guard
-Earthquake
-Ice punch
Machamp is the other lead, its ability lets it hit pokes that have been took to the skies by aerodactyl.
Dynamic punch is there for obvious reasons, hits hard and annoys the pokemon if it didn't get KO'd. It also destroys some strong pokemon like Tyranitar, because aero's unnerve disables chople berry.
Quick Guard renders talonflame and sableye useless. Also, it protects aerodactyl from bullet punch and water jet.
Earthquake is a good spread move and hits electric types that could beat aerodactyl pretty hard, I just need to take them to fly and then earthquake them because pokemon has no logic.
Ice punch again for dragons and some flying types that resist the other attacks. (I'm not sure if I should change this for thunder punch, fire punch or knock off since I already have ice fang on aerodactyl tho)
Also, I'm not sure about sitrus berry, I didn't know what item to use and that was the first thing that came to my mind.
TL;DR: Aegislash is too mainstream, this thing hits things in the sky and takes physical blows like a champ.
Doublade @ Eviolite
No Guard
Adamant
252atk/252hp/4spD
-Shadow Sneak
-Sword Dance
-Sacred Sword
-Iron Head
Doublade, as machamp, is able to hit things in the sky. With eviolite it gets such a nice defense so it can resist everything that isn't a super effective special attack.
Shadow sneak is there because some priority is always good to have (I used to run bullet punch on machamp too but I found earthquake to be more effective).
Iron head for STAB, sacred sword for coverage, and Sword Dance because it'll probably last more than one turn (if there's a special sweeper on the field aerodactyl will take care of him).
I might replace this one, it saved me some times but I feel like there could be something stronger here.
TL;DR: Thunder with 91 accuracy. Deal with it.
Galvantula @ Focus Sash
Compound Eyes
Timid
252SpA/252spe/4spD
-Protect
-Thunder
-Electroweb
-Bug Buzz
I just picked this one because I was checking the boxed pokemon and I saw this thing had compound eyes. That's just what I needed!, because thunder damage is multiplied by 2 if it hits pokes that are in the sky.
Protect is there because I don't want a fake out to ruin the focus sash.
Thunder, as I said before, destroys anything that's lifted by aerodactyl.
Electroweb is a cool move, but I didn't find myself using it so much, should I replace it by something like Volt Switch?
Bug Buzz for another STAB and some coverage.
I like this little spider but I doubt about its moveset and item, how could I improve it?
That's where my "standard" or more used team finishes. I play on battlespot so I can only use 4 there. The rest of the team isn't really suited but here is it:
TL;DR: She's a killer queen, gunpowder, guillotine, dynamite with a laser beam.Nidoqueen @ Life orb
Sheer Force
Modest
252SpA/252spe/4spD
-Thunder
-Sludge Bomb
-Ice beam
-Earth power
I had this poke from before the team, so I don't actually have a strategy for this that goes along with the rest.
Thunder hits things in the sky as I said before, but I'm probably going to change it to thunderbolt because I can't rely on it.
Sludge bomb, ice beam and earth power for awesome coverage... should I change something by a fire attack? (WAIT...I DON'T HAVE ANY ****ING FIRE ATTACK IN THE ENTIRE TEAM).
Nidoqueen is really good at attacking, but it isn't too fast or bulky, should I change the speed EVs for another stat? (I mean, its even modest)
TL;DR: It's a trap. 3 special attacks + good ol will o wisp.
Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Trace
Modest
252SpA/252spe/4spD
-Moonblast
-Psychic
-Thunderbolt
-Will-o-Wisp
I also had this poke before the team, and now that I look at it it doesn't seem suited for doubles nor for this team at all.
Moonblast, cool attack I guess, but I think I should change it for dazzling gleam.
Psychic is nice. Thunderbolt too.
Will-o-wisp isn't expected from gardevoir I think.
Gardevoirite shouldn't be here but I didn't think of another item yet. Maybe choice scarf? Idk.
Then, I'm doubting if I should change Trace for Telephaty. Machamp is the only pokemon that could hurt Gardevoir and trace is a really funny ability.
Finally, if I'm gonna make it use a scarf I should take some speed EVs and make it more bulky.
Pokes I'm considering to add:
Priority taunt and will-o-wisp would be helpful for Aerodactyl.
I fancy bulky pokemon... when they are on my side. Tyranitar would probably be used like this:
Aerodactyl uses sky drop on a bulky pokemon that tyranitar is able to KO. Like Cresselia, Slowbro or Aegislash.
Other pokemon of mine gets switched out for Tyranitar. Opponent targeted pokemon is vulnerable (it can't use priority moves because he'd be on the sky, so if it's slower than TTar it will be hit) and gets rekt. I see this working with a bulky Choice Band Tyranitar carrying Dark Pulse or Flamethrower. Also, sand stream will give aerodactyl +50% spDef.
Basically, a bulky pokemon that could take advantage of having only one oponnent on the other side of the field to set up and get ready to kick ass. Besides that, intimidate FTW.
Lighting rod to protect my aerodactyl from electric attacks and to stop discharge abusers on its track.
Another sky dropper? I'm not sure, replacing aerodactyl doesn't sound like a good idea. Having another sky dropper maybe? Braviary has defiant, which is cool, but its speed isn't the best so I would lose some of the control Aerodactyl gave me, unless I used choice scarf but that would make it even more predictable than it already is.
Well, I don't know if someone was able to read all of that, but if you did, or at least read a bit, what do you think? How could I improve my team?
