Okay, this is a story I'm writing with crystal, its a inside story of sorts and is about us and our dragon adoptable dragons, the older dragon is called Akane and is a fire dragon, the next dragon was female and a water dragon.
    the chapters are relatively short.

    Chapter 1 - Newcomer

Akane looked up as Cryst and Mal struggled inside, both carrying something quite heavy. They bustled around, grabbing a few rags and moving them into place with their foot before placing whatever it was down.

"We've got a surprise for you," Cryst chirped merrily.

"Get that thing out of here," Akane spat before returning to preening her scales. "There's no room for another dragon."

"How'd you know that's what it was?" Mal asked, removing the heavy blanket protecting the top of the large brown shell. If you watched it, it actually moved a bit. No doubt there was a baby dragon inside.

Akane looked distastefully at the egg on the ground.

"The aura coming off of that thing is so weak, it'll likely die."

"It won't die!" Crystal cried, clutching the egg. "I won't let it!"

"Now now, it'll be alright." Mal soothed, He turned to Akane. "Listen now, we'll be away in the market for a few days... You'll have to watch over it until we return."

    "Lovely." She snorted.

"Please, Akane." Cryst looked up into her ruby eyes. "Please watch it."

"And the camp, too. Remember, we're trusting you." Mal added.

Akane flicked her tail, the only response she was willing to give.

With no more, Cryst and Mal picked up their packs and left.

Akane watched outside the cave as they left, walking straight towards the setting horizon. Then she walked back inside and settled back into her designed spot. Another breath of flames renewed the fire, flickering off the walls with a merry orange glow.

She glared across the room as the large brown intrusion. Since when did she share her cave with anyone? For so long, she had been the sole care and attention of the two humans, and she relished in it. Here she was, a young adult fire dragon, almost old enough to leave on her own, and yet the love, (and easy food,) made her want to stay. She would never leave this place.

    But that egg will.

"This is my home," she insisted aloud.

    Strangers would not be tolerated...

Okay, please don't get me in trouble, personally i find it easier if each chapter is a new post. The third instalment will be posted if anyone likes this. ^^; (it starts to get interesting there when Miyako and Akane have a sibling rivalry)

Dragon Tales chapter 2 - Birth

Mal was awoken out of his sleep by a quiet grunt. He sat up, yawned, and listened a moment, then reached over and gave Cryst a rousing shake.

"Hey, hon, wake up, something's going on."

Cryst rolled over just as a soft crack echoed off the walls. She bolted upright and scrambled out of the covers, crawling towards the other room. "Come on!" She whispered horsely, "I think it might be time!"

"I'm coming, I'm coming," Mal replied, scooping up a few blankets. He followed her into the seperate cave where the egg sat. She was settled down in front of it, watching, so Mal wrapped a blanket around them. "How soon?"

"I don't know... Akane hatched in a few days."

They glanced over at her sleeping in her desinated corner. Her breathing was steady and slow, and the tiniest spark of fire slipped out everytime she exhaled.

"Do you think we did the right thing?" Crystal asked. "Adopting a little brother or sister?"

Her concerned tone made him run a hand through his hair as he scratched his neck in uncertainty "We can only hope that they'll get along, Akane is probably mature enough for a brother or sister now."

"But what if she isn't?" Crystal looked at the floor, concerned about the future. "She might not take well to it, what if she harbours resentment to us or feels like she's not important to us anymore and we're making a 'fresh start' with a new dragon?"

"OR…" Malachi held Crystal close, placing a kiss on her forehead. "Akane could see it as someone to play with… she might be feeling lonely in the cave all by herself."

Suddenly, the two looked at the egg as they saw a beak poke through the shell, time after time until they saw little legs kicking the shell away until all that was left was a little blue Western dragon, Crystal rushed to it, covering it with her blanket as she rocked it in her arms.

"Dear…" Crystal started lovingly, "What do you feel about... Miyako for her?"

"Miyako is a beautiful name." Malachi smiled as he joined her in looking at the dragon in her grasp. "She'll be a beautiful dragon."

Okay, the third segment, in this Akane starts her plan to have the cave to herself.

Dragon Tales chapter 3 - Deceit

"Get away from me, brat." Akane hissed. "I'm busy." Yeah, she was busy alright... busy having to watch the pest while the two humans were away for the day.

"What'cha doing?" Miyako craned her neck to see, but Akane just turned around and clutched her horde to her chest.

"I'm sorting my stuff, now go outside." She pushed a few odd things around. As was the habit of dragons, she had collected a horde of precious stuff. Shiny silver coins, a red tattered blanket, a carved wooden bowl and plate, some crinkly paper, a pure white feather, a pebble-sized chestnut, a metal key from somewhere, and a spool of golden thread.

    "Oooh, what's this?"

"Don't touch my stuff!" Akane roared, snatching the feather away.

"Do you want to play?" Miyako looked up hopefully.

The elder female stared down. "Yeah, with the other adults at the edge of the forest. Not with weaklings like you." She moved her tail swiftly, knocking the blue halfling down.

"I'M NOT A WEAKLING!" Miyako bawled.

"Well, I heard that the only reason that Mal and Cryst brought your egg here was that your your egg was abandoned at the top of Piron Mountain. I don't know what it is... humans just seem to like runts."

"That's not true! Mally said they both love me very much. He said I have a water power."

"Yeah, more like a freak power. *I* have fire, and everyone knows fire is better. Ask anyone! They'll say that true dragons are supposed to breathe flames. And besides, Crystal likes fire better, she told me so."

"She did not. She says I'm special, and-"

"Special is only another way to say useless or stupid. Jeez, don't you know anything?!"

"But... but I..." Miyako stammered, her violet eyes glistening with hurt tears.

"Look, if you're smart you'll listen to me." Akane said, making her tone calm. "There's no real reason for you to stay here. What you should do is go and find a cave of your own, and stay away from humans. Maybe you'll get lucky and find another dam-drake that'll take you in with her own."

Miyako was confused; could all of this be true? Could everything she was told by Mally and Crysty be just a lie?

"Do you know what they do?" Seeing she was having some effect, Akane grinned before forcing her posture and tone calm. "Your precious 'Mally' and 'Crysty' go out because they can't stand the sight of you."

"SHUT UP!!!" Miyako's face was streaming with tears as she yelled blindly into the cave, "Mally would never do that!"

"The truth hurts, I know." Akane mournfully spoke as she shook her head in mock disbelief. "But they never truly wanted you, you're just a pest that lives with them and eat all their food, now is that truly love?"

Miyako desperately looked around the cave, her face was drenched with tears, sniffing slightly, she grabbed Akane's pure white feather and ran out of the cave, disappearing into the hills and the rain.

"The cave is all mine again." Smugly smiling, Akane resumed piling her horde into a small pile before curling into a ball and putting her head down to rest. "She stole my feather though, but I can find another."
