Smogon's RU council has decided to suspect test Durant, one of the best Pokemon in RU and one of the most irritating Pokemon to deal with when teambuilding. What are your thoughts on this?
Personally, Durant's ridiculous versatility is a big factor in why I'd like it banned. It can run anything from Choice Band to Choice Scarf to Hone Claws to Substitute + Baton Pass, which are all incredibly potent. Expecting a Choice set? Too bad if your opponent capitalises on a switch and sets up a Substitute or Hone Claws. Choice Band / Hone Claws Durant, on the other hand, can easily tear through balance teams. Speaking of Choice Band Durant, if that comes in for free, something is almost always dying. Running a balance team with a solid defensive backbone comprising of Alomomola and Mega Steelix? Too bad Alomomola is cleanly 2HKOed by X-Scissor and Mega Steelix is cleaved through in two hits by Superpower. Durant also has an exceptionally annoying base Speed of 109, which lets it outspeed Virizion, Delphox and Manectric; this makes Choice Scarf Durant a pain to deal with if you are using offence as the only way you will outspeed it with a Choice Scarf user is by running another Durant! Yes, it folds to pretty much every powerful special attack in the tier, as well as anything with a Fire-type move, but both of these can easily be played around with the correct teammates. The Hustle miss chance is also painful, but let's be real: if your game plan relies on Durant missing an attack, you're in for a bad time.
Overall, I feel Durant has a detrimental effect on the RU metagame and should be banned, and I am quite confident that it will be banned given the disquiet about it that has been steadily increasing over the last few months.
