Is it normal that there is between Gym 1 and Gym 2 almost nothing? :surprised:
After the first Gym you have to fight (maximum) 5 trainers, then you have to go to that cave, but you can't pass there (rocks) so you go with that boat to the island of Gym 2, where there are again 2 trainers, and after that a dark cave, and you need the second badge to use HM Flash
So, I have to train my pokemon almost 8, 9, 10 levels by fighting wild pokémon before I can defeat Gymleader 2!

Is there something I missed in this game? I don't get it!

I believe you're talking about Emerald, I was confused for a moment there. Anyway, it's true, you do have to train a bit on wild pokemon, but there are more than 5 trainers between the gyms. When you go to that cave, there is another level before it, you have to cut some trees and you will find 4-5 more trainers and some items. For the second gym, just use type advantage. Get a Ralts from the area just before Petalburg City, and train him up. He can take almost all the fighting pokemon except Meditite. And he can be trained even inside the gym, by defeating all the trainers there. Or catch an Abra from the cave near Gym 2, and train him to level 16 to evolve, but I like Gardevoir better, since I can't trade to get Alakazam.

No you aren't missing anything and Lathspell covered it all. The only thing I would add is that I reset my game quite often because I am adding a lot of Secret Bases for EV training purposes. What I have found is that if you start with Mudkip, train it until Route 104, and then catch a Taillow. Use Taillow through the forest, leveling up against the Bug Pokes, and then level the two up together. Mudkip owns the first, third, and fourth gym without any trouble whatsoever. Taillow also owns the second gyms since ALL Pokes there have a Flying weakness. It is also great to cover Mudkip 4x weakness to Grass. You can keep using Swellow until you have enough cash to buy an Ice Beam, and then Swampert can finish the game by itself.

If you dont evolve Taillow before you fight brawly. Makuhita will eat it alive.

True story, vital throw is nasty. Even if Taillow resists it. I thought it could beat Makuhita at level 17. I was wrong. If it isnt vital throw that eats you for breakfast, its reversal

That might be the case for you, but it definitely is possible to beat the gym with Taillow. While I admit that there has been a time or two where my Taillow has fainted, I have never waited for it to evolve into Swellow to take on the second gym. That just takes too long. A Taillow at Lv18~20 has always been successful for me (aside from a few aforementioned exceptions), and keep in mind that I have restarted many, many, MANY times.

True that Taillow can beat Meditite too, but I certainly prefer Ralts/Kirlia for that gym, as Makuhita always used Bulk Up with me, and that kind of wastes Taillow. Except if it kills it in one or two hits, which is kind of unlikely. Plus the leader packs Super Potions too. Meditite can be taken down quite easy with the starter, as it uses Confusion and Bide as it's attacks, which suck big time. Only Combusken is vulnerable to confusion, but by that time it has Peck anyway.
