Edit existing items to be evolution items?

    i remember being able to do this pretty easily a long time ago, but it's totally lost to me now.

    i attempted using Complete Item Editor to change king's rock to an evolution stone, and edited poliwhirl in G3S to evolve via evolution stone and set king's rock as the item, but the item has no effect ingame. can someone help me out?
