I kinda thought of this just by wondering about why the E4/Champion works so weird in the Pokémon games. You defeat the champion, become champion, battle them again and somehow they're still champion. Somehow. Really you should get that job, right?

Also, the E4 is a bit weird as well. I believe in a lot of the anime/movies (not having seen any of either), the E4 is actually a tournament rather than a linear progression that only one challenger can attempt at a time. Do you think that would be better or more fun in the games as well?

Also, how would you implement these changes? How would the tournament work? How would staying champion work?

I would make the e4 so that they keep the whole, "lose, you start over" thing. I like (sorta) that. What I'd do is that they should make you the champion, maybe even wifi battling others who want to be the champion. The elite 4 would work like an 8 at a time tournament, then the winner gets to battle the elite 4 in a row, then the champion.

I would definitely rather have the Pokemon League as a tournament instead of fighting the Elite Four - maybe that could come after. There could be a town that the event is hosted in (similar to the Pokemon League Village in the original anime) and the player can battle in stadiums. I've always liked this idea and think it would be a welcome change to the Elite Four.

What I have always wished the pokemon League would be, I wish they would treat the "Champion" title as something that a player has to defend after acquiring the title. I always thought that really hard trainers from all around the region should be able to challenge you at the pokemon league in order to steal the Champion title away from you. It would feel more valuable as a title if you had to fight for it frequently.

As for the actual battles and such, I kind of wish they would set it up so that each Elite Four member has four trainers that are also attempting to challenge each Elite Four member. You would have to fight four trainers in a row before you are allowed to fight each Elite Four member. You would fight four trainers, one Elite Four member, then your pokemon would be healed and then you would pass on to the next Elite Four challenge where you would repeat the same process. The Champion battle is the final fight and you would not have to battle anyone else before challenging them.
