I have a simple question that pertains to the "second generation" gold version of pokemon.

I would like to know how to get the most out of my vitamins. I hardly know about EV and how it works, so I couldn't help but wonder if maybe I had to give my pokemon one of each vitamin for every level until I reach the vitamin cap, or if I should wait until the pokemon was past it's final evolution to give it one of each vitamin per level (considering that pokemon tend to get higher stat increases after evolving).

If someone is knowledgeable about how to get the most out of vitamins in generation II feel free to help me out. Thanks in advance.

    Edit:

I should probably mention that I don't intend to EV train my pokemon, I simply want to know how I should use vitamins (Protein, Iron, Etc..) to get the most out of them. Hopefully this question is clear, I don't want to put people into the trouble of going into really specific EV training strategies like I did with thebest (Sorry if I didn't make my question clear to you).

Once again, I want to know how I should use vitamins on my pokemon to get the most out of them. This question pertains to pokemon gold, which is a different generation from three (Ruby/Sapphire/Em) and four (Diamond/Pearl). The reason why this must be answered in terms of generation two is because the EV system was completely changed after generation two. Rendering any guides referring to any game younger than gold or silver version moot.

Ok to EV train its good to give your pokemon the item it needs first so if your pokemon is gotmore special attack than any other or defense and so on ., to find out what your pokemon are best at in thier stats go to GOOGLE.COM the entre smogan university then type in the search bar, your pokemon name it will tell you your pokemons state thier best at . Now back to the topic once uv found the stats give the itme to it Example Protein increase Attack the pokemon can only ingest 10 then the EV's are boosted half way if that then you need to make the pokemon hold a power item example power belt boots +2 EV's now go and find a perticular pokemon that give +1 or 2 EV's each time you faint one and i think those 10 items you gave it earlier give it +1 EV as well some pokemon give off deferent typesof EV's OH EVs are (Effort Value) once you level after defeating pokemon you will either gain heaps of stats that you requir oh less depending how you do it for more imformation look it up on smogan university ;) i hope this helped

This would make a wonderful post if it was relevant to generation two. However, since you mention power bands and whatnot I can't say that this could help me.

I appreciate the time you put in to help me though, also I didn't notice you posted here before I responded to that message you sent me in my profile. So by all means, disregard it.

Indeed, I hope I didn't come off as hostile because I'm actually quite grateful that you at least tried to help me out.

There was no EV cap in Gen II so all you really have to do is give them vitamins until they no longer take them (10 of each for an EV-less Pokemon).

It's better to give them before battling with them a lot so that you can use more vitamins. But it isn't a big deal if you don't, it will just make them powerful more quickly.

But if you've got a limited amount of vitamins. You could look up what ones to give to which Pokemon on Smogon. Or more simply, just raise the currently highest stats of a Pokemon and not the weaker ones.

Thank you, I'm not only glad to see that my question was answered; but I'm also glad to see that I've overcomplicated an rpg made for children in my mind.
