I mean, is there any? Because all the vitamins and pokerus points to yes. Stupid FAQ doesn't have anything on it >.<

So, can you EV train in Pokemon G/S/C?

You can EV train pokemons in GSC. The main difference with 3rd and 4th generation is that you can put 255 EVs in EVERY stat. You are no longer bound by the maximum of 510EVs, just by the 255 per stat.

So basicly you can EV train, but since everyone will have all EVs maxed out, I think it's kind of meh.

    ^ whoa, I din't know that!!!

So basicall G/S/C Pokemon would have huge stats, right? Even with their small IV's... that means:

63 points max EV to all stats, plus max of 15 IV... 78 points possible for all stats.

Now in R/S on, its 31 for three of them, 32 for one (the typical 4 shuffled into HP on a lot of Pokes) and 91 for two stats. (That's assuming a typical 252-252 EV spread)

So Pokemon now get sligtly more of a boost, but were more all-around back then (Plus, all you'd need to do to max out EV is just battle the E4 a zllion times, rather than specializing).

There's EVs in every Pokemon game, even going as far back as RBY. In fact, it's what's tied in with the infamous Box Trick.

Also, as a note, you still have the 510 EV limit in the generation III and IV games on top of the 255-per-stat limit. In other words, each stat can have a maximum of 255 EVs, but each Pokemon can only gain 510 at the very most. One of these limits didn't actually exist for generation I and II, but I don't recall which. I want to say it was the 510 ceiling.

As a note, vitamins have always distributed 10 EVs to the stat it says it raises. For example, Carbos improves Speed, so it gives 10 EVs to the Speed stat. On top of that, Pokerus doubles the amount of EV values gained after each victory.

Back in the old days, we called EVs something else - Stat experience. Each stat (attack, defense, etc.) could hold a maximum of around 248 EVs today. Though the name may have been different, the mechanism was still the same, except all stats could be maxed out in this fashion.

Also, a pokemon could gain stat experience even at level 100. That's where the Box Trick came into play. Even if you gain the experience, the game doesn't yet change your stats accordingly until you force it to. A simple method to force the game to recalculate stats was just placing the pokemon in a PC box.
