Hi, I'm new around here, but I've been playing around with ROM hacking for a while. Recently, I had an idea for a hack for one of the Gen 4 games that involves a "taller" game world (north to south) than either than them have, but I've run into a problem. Using SDSME, expanding Matrix 0 (the matrix containing all area files and their locations) to create a larger possible world map causes the game to crash as soon as you leave your house and enter the overworld, even if the new entries in the matrix are blank. I've tried this in both HeartGold and Platinum, both with the same result. Is there any way around this, or is it some hardcoded limitation? if it is hardcoded, is there any way to essentially make a second world map?
