Hello there, its me, Mario uh, I mean Jewel of Life. Here I am with an interesting pg13 fanfic that provides an unexpected twist to the classic PMD2 plot. There are many references to the epilogue of the game, so if you're not one for spoilers, I'm just warning you. I expect to put up a chapter every week, give or take a day, so you shouldn't have to wait too long to continue reading. Oh, and if I don't put up a chapter in that time, feel free to pm me spam until I do post it. Seriously, it helps. ;>

Also, if you're wondering why I made the font bigger, it's because I find it easier to read.

    And without fu
rther ado (I think I use that phrase too much), here is the first chapter to my fanfic. Enjoy~

    -Chapter I: Beyond 'Too Easy'-

The calm flow of ocean water created a pleasing sound, just barely loud enough to wake a pokemon from his slumber. Still sleepy, Darkrai looked around with lazy eyes before straightening up with a start. He had no clue where he was. Anxiously, the black pokemon looked around trying to figure something out, and that was when his memory began to resurface and he calmed down. Darkrai winced as he remembered the pain- which was still felt in a few places on his body –of what had taken place earlier.

He had been in a battle; a horrible battle against Cresselia as well as Nikki and her sidekick Will. And he had been the loser. Darkrai remembered trying to escape through a dimensional hole, but Palkia had appeared, and all hope had been lost. An involuntary shudder ran through Darkrai's body as he recalled the pain of being struck while in the dimensional hole.

But, he had survived. It didn't matter where he was, or even when he was, because he had survived with his memory intact. Although, Darkrai knew that it wouldn't hurt to find out the 'where' and 'when'.

Cautiously, the pitch-black pokemon observed his surroundings and was able to recognize the location; Beach Cave. A little too close to Wigglytuff's Guild for his taste, but perhaps in this time they didn't know who he was yet. A reconnaissance mission was in order.

Finding out his time period would be much more difficult than simply finding out where he was, and Darkrai was already getting a little nervous. He mentally scolded himself for being such a coward, and decided to make his way out of the tiny cave. Having been at the very back with a long way to go toward the exit, and in his weak and sleepy state, Darkrai knew that he had to be careful and watch out for explorers that might recognize him.

Sticking to the many shadows of the wet and puddle-filled cavern, Darkrai was able to slip unnoticed through a colony of sleeping shellos. Getting a little cockier, he let his guard down and didn't notice the pair of anoriths- one male and one female -that were heading his way. However, he realized just in time and was able to use shadow sneak to escape from their view without so much as a confused glance. Quickly, he passed under the couple in a shadowy state and materialized once he was far enough away that they wouldn't see him. That had been just a little too close.

And then, he was at the exit. It was lucky that Darkrai had ended up in the simplest and smallest of all caves. All there was left to do was find out what time period he was in, and then continue with his evil plots. No one would ever prevent Darkrai from reaching his goal.

Once fully outside, Darkrai stretched his arms, but retreated a little into the cave. Leave it to a nocturnal pokemon to feel exposed in the late-afternoon sunlight. More cautious now, Darkrai looked over the beach. A few piles of rocks stood near the cliffs that surrounded the small patch of sand, and a dirt path lead up into grassy hills that were lightly forested. The tented tops and small lights on one such hill told Darkrai that he was near Treasure town, and just beyond that he could make out the 'ears' of Wigglytuff's Guild up on the highest cliff. Directly across from Darkrai was an odd formation in a cliff that looked like a sharpedo's head; appropriately named sharpedo bluff.

The beach itself was far more boring than its surrounding areas. A few small patches of grass grew relatively close to the edge and small shells of all shapes and colors were scattered in the white sand by the ocean. Three rocks stood in the middle of the beach, just out of the tide's reach. Nothing about the era could be determined here.

Just a little disappointed Darkrai began to float out farther onto the beach, still cautious that he was in a time period where he was known, and hated. It was then that he realized that one of the three rocks he had noticed didn't look right. The rock seemed just a little too reddish in color and a little misshapen. Advancing just a little closer, Darkrai was able to make out numerous curled tails and pointed ears. A vulpix was asleep in the sand.

At first, Darkrai was quite confused, but then the glorious realization came to him. Nikki, his most powerful enemy, whom he had attacked in a different time zone when she was a human with Grovyle, was a vulpix. Not only that, but she was a vulpix that was found by her partner Will unconscious on the beach. There was no mistake now. And there was no better way this could have turned out. Nobody at that time knew who Darkrai was. It would be so easy to get accepted into Wigglytuff's Guild, all the while continuing his evil plans undercover. It was all too easy.

Ready and eager, Darkrai floated up to the sleeping vulpix, leaving clouds of dust drifting off behind him as he did. He reached out with one of his black hands and gently shook the sleeping pokemon's shoulder. She immediately awoke.

"Whaaaaa! A d-darkrai! But I thought that a darkrai was supposed to be just as big as a human, and you're way bigger than me!" Darkrai expected nothing less. It would be easy to act as if he knew nothing.

"Ummm, well that may be because your not a human. You're just an ordinary vulpix, which are smaller than I."

Nikki was hopelessly confused. "A vulpix? No way! I'm a human!" Frightened and frantic, Nikki looked over her red body and noticed her curly tails and four reddish-brown paws signature to a vulpix. "Huh? OH ARCEUS I ACTUALLY AM A VULPIX! But how did that happen? I swear I am a human… you believe me don't you?"

Darkrai barely resisted laughing at how simple this was. "Uh, that's hard to believe, but if you insist, I guess you are – were a human. So then, do you know how you became a pokemon? Certainly you can tell me that, or your name at least."

At this request, Nikki screwed up her face, and after a few seconds of thinking she began to pound her head with a paw. Finally, she appeared to give up. "Now that I think about it… I can't remember anything. Well, except my name at least. I'm Nikki. And I was a human. Why can't I remember anything else?"

"I don't know. This is all so strange. A human that became a vulpix and lost her memory; I've never heard anything like that!"

"W-well, uh, do you have any idea what I should do now? I have no place to go, and no friends."

Now was the perfect time to bring up Wigglytuff's Guild, and this was going so smoothly it was almost too good to be true. "Actually, there is a place nearby called Wigglytuff's Guild. You can train there to become part of an exploration team- a group of pokemon that travels the world rescuing others or arresting criminals that kind of thing –and maybe you will learn something about your past in your travels. In fact, I've been thinking about joining the guild myself. Maybe we could do it together."

"Oh really? All that sounds wonderful. Thank you very much! I don't know what I would have done without you. So, can you show me the way to Wigglytuff's Guild?"

"Yeah, it's real close too. We can get there in a few minutes. Oh, and by the way, you can just call me Darkrai. Most pokemon around here go by their species name. Also, I'm pretty much the only Darkrai anywhere near here, since we're so rare, and so I'm easy enough to recognize with just that name."

"Okay Darkrai, lets go! Off to Wigglytuff's Guild!"

Darkrai glided ahead in the direction of the guild, but stopped in his tracks when he heard a soft plop behind him. Immediately, he spun around to see what had happened. As it turned out, Nikki had fallen when she had tried to walk, probably tripping over one of the rocks.

"Oof! Hey Darkrai can you help? I still feel so tired and weak from whatever happened. This is going to be harder than I thought."

"What do you expect me to do, carry you?"

At this remark, Nikki looked downward and Darkrai was just barely able to make out the red color of her blushing cheeks beneath the fur that covered them. Slowly, she looked back up. "Uh… actually," Nikki paused for a second and gulped. "Um, it would be nice if I didn't have to walk…" Even though she had finished her statement, Nikki still seemed to have trailed off.

This was beyond funny, and far beyond 'too easy'. Rolling his eyes to conceal his inside thoughts, Darkrai gently lifted Nikki off the ground and made sure to support her properly. Nikki herself seemed just a little bit startled, and extremely embarrassed. Without another word, Darkrai headed off again with his sights set on Wigglytuff's Guild. After one last glance down at Nikki, who was still looking around and hoping no one was staring, Darkrai had one final thought on the matter. Woe to any pokemon who saw a sexual connotation in this.

    To Be Continued...

EDIT: Okay, I'm real sorry, but this chapter was taking longer than usual and I am about to leave on vacation. I am disappointed to have to announce that the next chapter won't be up until Tuesday. Once again, I am really sorry about this.
