Hey guys I need your help.
Recently purchased a pokemon ruby for the gba of ebay. I'm normally quite good at determining authenticity but I'm really struggling with this one.

First of all the sticker isn't shiny, it is just glossy unlike many of my other games.
The indented numbers usually on the front right of the sticker at very very faint and not straight (not like any I've seen before)
It's a CE rating rather than E so it's a little harder to judge.
I cannot unscrw the back to check for the logo as I don't have a screwdriver that will fit
All the codes seem in order
As do the logos, nor are any blurry or odd looking
Looking inside from the bottom it says c 2002 nintendo and then some numbers, but the nintendo is not the logo, just the words. Which is unlike my fire red
The case seems to fit just right and the seal looks good
It froze when I started playing
It told me upon start up that my internal battery has run dry?

Guys what do you think? If it's a fake it's one of the best ones I've ever seen, anything else I can check or am I just living in hope?
    Alex

Can you possibly post a link to the seller? If the cartridge looks like this then it's real.
Without being able to open it up it's kinda hard to judge it. If it looks like the picture then it's most likely real and the battery's dead. But still post the link if you can.

I'm a new member so I cannot post links but
I bought it, with 100% feedback from the seller "retrogamekingdom"
Just to clarify, is it supposed to be a metallic sticker on the ruby

If that's what the cartridge looks like then it's fake. The numbers are always on the bottom right with the nintendo logo above it. Where the nintendo logo is on yours is where the rated E is supposed to be. If I were you I'd send it back, it's fake.

But, unless Ihave completely misunderstood this, it is a uk version and not us. Therefore there is no E as it is CE instead which, I have always been lead to believe anyway, is always on the right with the seal on the left. And yes that was a picture of the one I have.

Is your Fire Red cartridge a UK version as well or is it a US version? If I'm correct, US and UK cartridges should look the same. Go to the link of the seller and in the description look for any information regarding the cartridge and the battery. If the seller put the battery is dead then it's most likely just dead and needs to be replaced.

No mention of it from the seller! Yes fire red is uk also, that has no battery messages and I'm pretty sure that one is genuine.

With extensive googling I think I've come to the conclusion it's real, thanks for all your help. One last question about the battery? If I dot replaced wit how will that effect gameplay?

    Got there in the end!

Guess I was wrong about the US and UK thing lol. If you're able to complete your FR game then it's real, if you beat the Elite Four and the save reset then it's a bootleg, usually you can't complete the game on a bootleg. But if you've done made it past the Elite Four on FR then the Ruby cartridge is most likely real but needs a battery replacement.

As for the battery question... You wont be able to save your progress. The last time I had a dead battery was in my original Silver and I couldn't save my progress (not even sure if I could do anything, it's been too long). If you can play the game then play until you get to the Elite Four (if it's on a SP or DS) and see if it lets you continue. You'll lose all your progress due to not being able to save but it's the final indication on finding out if it's fake or real. Most likely it's real, but check just in case.

Sure fire way to tell if it's real, try to migrate to a Gen IV game. It it's fake it will wipe the data on the cartridge in Gen III. If not, it's real.
