I'm trying to google it without much luck

But I think it'd be cool if everyone could post anything they could find of fan concept art of gen 2 through 5s starters so that ultimately we could see how wrong we the people were with out guesses in concept fan arts

Here is what I have found though

^This actually would have been better

^These were both pretty far off from what actually happened except on Servine

Here is a way off Piplup final form I found

^I found this odd because this person was clearly making up starters from scratch, and basically nailed it on the head with Fennekin, could Pokemon actually be using fans ideas from the internet?

Additionally I never know what to think of some Japanese magazine scans I see around

    ^This was obviously real

    Compare to this

^I have no idea honestly, as far as I've heard to date all magazine scans are "fake" but, this looks pretty convincing and I'm not sure if past generations magazine scans were all dismissed as fakes too.

If this is fake, then the person who faked it did an excellent job of imitating the classic pokemon artwork style, and even somehow making it look like one of those pokemon was actually in the game. It's very hard to just dismiss scans like these as fakes for me

I literally can NOT find any concept arts for Gen 2 or 3 starters, and only found that Piplup for 4... so if we could all dig up whatever we can find we might have an interesting collection of fan concepts that didn't even come close to being real to compare to. Ultimately to remind us to expect the unexpected. (I don't think anyone would have predicted Oshawott's final evolution TBH for example)

So basically wt r u tryin to say is that the scans that were leaked arn't fake..

What I noticed is that most fan concept arts of starter evolutions are just "altered" forms of the original unevolved forms, so YES we were wrong, always...
And I agree totally that Nintendo may have taken ideas from the internet because that would be cool as heck, besides the horrible similarity between Anax/Axolash and Fennekin/Froakie doesn't look like coincidence to me...
Also I doubt that you'll ever find gen 2 concept art, simply because I believe people didn't expect Pokemon to continue for more than 2 generations, imo the teasers from gen 5 & 6 that were released started the whole speculation/concept art thing so it's kind of a new thing.

I think the Froakie thing isn't shockingly similar, I mean it's water and it's a frog. If the guys concept frog had clouds or suds or whatever it is Froakie has I'd be like HMMM....

But the Fennekin & Anax are like a 95% resemblance, I think they definitely hijacked the guys idea on Fennekin & maybe took the basis of a Frog water starter the guy had and then decided to tweak that one

I still really wonder what in the world will Fennekin turn into? I feel like there's no way he will be anything but a boring plain fire typed Ninetales cousin or something.

    Then of course there's this

^Which would be even worse than if it ends up plain fire lol

& @ Clairvoyance : I like that guys Emboar idea. It beats a 4 legged pig for some reason evolving to walk up right and being fighting type lol

While I love fan art, this isn't really the place to discuss it. More so, you're narrowing the topic down to Gen II - V, where as you're in the X and Y forum, a place for a new generation. I would say the Art & Design forum would be a better location, but for this thread specifically, I'm not sure it would belong there.

I don't mind some discussion of fake scans or some Gen VI fan art in some threads, but only if it pertains to the discussion going on. I'm going to put the lock on this, but you're free to ask one of the Art & Design moderators if you're welcome to bring this topic there should it belong.
