The Crystal Version. The versions just went up and up up to the Crystal Version.
A drawback was in the Ruby and Sapphire versions.

gold and silver are the best. i have gold, so that's why i say gold's my favorite. they're the best because at the time when they came out the could link up with every pokemon game ever. ruby and sapphire were pretty weak in that aspect... because colloseum isn't very good. and what's emerald?

Emerald isn't an official Pokemon game. It shouldn't be in the poll really.

Anyway, Red/Blue are best for nostalgia purposes. Extremely playable in their day, although they feel a bit dated by today's standards.

Gold/Silver are king. They're the perfect Pokemon titles. Over 200 monsters, great legendaries and brilliant features (radio, phone, day/night etc). It doesn't get much better than this.

Ruby and Sapphire...now here's the tricky one. Brilliant visuals, loads of new monsters, same, addictive gameplay. They had the potential to be the best. But several critical factors ruined it for me.

Firstly, and most importantly: EV capping. Basically, the way the game is built, you're working harder for less when training your team. You max out two stats and the others are left to suck, whereas in the first games you maximized each Pokemon's strengths in each and every area. It's become too over-complicated now. Not to mention the fact that no-one will ever know anything about EVs unless they read up on the games online. :|

Bah, I can't be bothered to list all the other bad points :p. They're good games, but Nintendo have veered away from what Pokemon's all about. And where in God's name is the night/day feature? >_<

Although it'll never happen, the next Pokemon games could be the greatest ever should they decide to go back to the old EV system and add a few new types (instead of natures >_< ). And drop all this E-Reader/mystery ticket rubbish.

Crystal. It was the first game with the girl, and the plot was longer and rocks socks. I still play it to this day.

    GOLD SILVER AND CRYSTAL!

They must make a remake of either gold & silver and/or crystal or i will hurt nintendo physically and mentally.

Ruby. R/S were the best pair to be released. Better graphics, better pokemon, better battles, better items, better storyline, better everything really. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of old pokemon and that you couldn't go to Kanto or Johto in the game (like you could in GSC).

And Ruby > Sapphire because the version specific pokemon were cooler. Only Seviper instead of Zangoose would have needed changed to make it perfect for me.

    Shiftry family (R) > Ludicolo family (S)
    Mawile (R) > Sableye (S)
    Seviper (S) > Zangoose (R)
    Solrock (R) > Lunatone (S)
    Groudon (R) > Kyogre (S)
    Latios (R) > Latias (S)

    You are so stupid.

Groudon < Kyogre because Groudon completely sucks, Bulk Up increases Defence, but Groudon's only weaknesses are SPECIAL.
Just because it looks so cool doesn't mean Groudon can last a minute in one battle, which Kyogre can. Face it, Groudon is just a piece of legendary rot.

Crystal is my favourite as well. The pokemons in that game each has a little animation, and the day/night feature is very cool. Also, you can play as both guys and girls and link to any pokemon game (except the newer ones of course).

I hope the new pokemon games will at least feature the day/night abilities.. And have a longer plotline than ruby/sapphire

Exactly, and I hate the fact that
    Red (Charizard) > Blue (Blastoise)
    Silver (Lugia) > Gold (Ho-oH)
    Ruby (Groudon) > Sapphire (Kyogre)

My favorite is Crystal, it is the most "advanced". But the 2nd is Green!
