OK I am very dissapointed with the FC ONLY system in pokemon D&P , actually I hate the whole FC system and don't like the Nintendo online system eighther. this is nintendo's fault , when I went to E3 in 0'4
iwata said "Gamers don't want online they wan't connectivity" i said OMG NO...
Nintendo's strict online policy to keep kids away from strangers has gone too far..FC Wont stop this anyone can just add you if you seek fc in sites.

I love REAL online like x360, Sony and PC where I can add whoever i want and brag to them about my victories.

MK DS the best DS online game dissapointment most stages are not online cant chat and add people i race.

    Chocobo tales
great game amazing graphics! but still cant chat or add random players..

square enix hates nintendos strict policy.

now pokemon games for nintendo are for little kids and restrict from going online freely.

I love pokemon alot but I am very dissapointed with the online and graphics not really changing much.. I am going to enjoy UNREAL 3 online more and Halo3 real online games.

Nintendo we want real online pokemon games!

Hmm, I tend to disagree, I like the FC system, for the very reason you want it to be random, GLOATERS, I hate it, everyone knows your good, but no-one really cares, and it makes people even more angry, It's just like insulting someone, they just lost, like let's say by 2 kills, and the winner goes ahead and starts saying, "Woah, I bet you, you suck, your a noob, noob!." When in reality it was a very close win and the winner was just good enough to win. It's despicable that people think they can act like that.

But more on the FC "problem", You state yourself that pokemon was a game designed for kids, and I'm talking the age of 6 - 12, yet you try compare it to a game that's about killing other players? That doesn't make sense to me, you should compare it to a game more similar, although I don't know any in particular, You just can't compare it to a game with a completely different genre.

square enix hates nintendos strict policy.

Hmm, You know Square Enix do you?

Anyway, Nintendo gave you a real online pokemon game, they are exactly like every other pokemon game, how much more realer can it get?

Also, it is to my understanding there is a possibilities of random battles at a battle tower, although I don't know for sure.

And one last thing, Why do you want to brag infront of a completely random person when you could brag to your friends? By this I mean is that the main reason they made the FC was to be able to battle FRIENDS over Wi-Fi, So that you could locate them easier and so you don't need to be directly with them, because I hate using the trade cable, to trade with your friends when you can just trade over Wi-Fi, and it won't cost you a thing.

So you like the FC system due to the fact that you're afraid of someone "gloating" in your face? I actually like it due to the fact that you can say "good game" or just chat with them during the match (like Unreal Tournament for example). I bet you haven't even played a real online game because if you did then you would know that it's not just filled with "gloaters" as you like to put it.

But more on the FC "problem", You state yourself that pokemon was a game designed for kids, and I'm talking the age of 6 - 12, yet you try compare it to a game that's about killing other players? It doesn't matter if it's a game about killing other people or if it's a game where there is no violence at all. For example: FF Chocobo Tales (which looks like pokemon) does not require friend code to play online. If it were up to Nintendo then Chocobo Tales would have been friend code only. Thank god it wasn't.

Hmm, You know Square Enix do you?..

    Actually I do.

    joystiq.com/2007/02/01/square-enix-blames-wii-friend-codes-for-lack-of-ffxi/

"Square Enix blames Wii friend codes for lack of FFXI

Friend codes. Nintendo's self-imposed restriction on online gaming has been a burden to many who want to play with their friends without having to share a different 12-digit friend code for every game. When the Wii was revealed to have a console-specific friend code, we thought Nintendo had somewhat listened to the community's grumblings. When Pokemon Battle Revolution, the first online Wii title, launched in Japan with friend codes, we realized the folly of our optimism.

Square Enix's Senior Vice President Hiromichi Tanaka empathizes, highlighting the friend code system as the primary reason they haven't brought an online game like Final Fantasy XI onto the console. In an interview with Cubed's Adam Riley, Tanaka reveals that the RPG powerhouse is now in negotiations with Nintendo about "resolving this point of contention." A publisher of Square Enix's magnitude does not necessarily guarantee Nintendo will listen, but perhaps Nintendo will ease off or at least allow exceptions for some titles.

Then again, Final Fantasy XI on the Wii would surely be profitable even if gamers were required to enter over 300,000 12-digit codes to fully experience the world. That's how much, we suspect, Wii owners our clamoring for Nintendo to join the rest its brethren in this generation.

[Update 1: As White Rose Duelist and others have pointed out, Pokemon Battle Revolution's extra friend code might be an exception and not a rule, and Elebits is a cited example where one can exchange in-game pictures with Wii friends. However, as we do not have any other details from impending online games, and Nintendo has not readily clarified, we're just not sure.

Anyway, Nintendo gave you a real online pokemon game, they are exactly like every other pokemon game, how much more realer can it get??

They got lazy with the graphics since they didn't change much. But I'm not a graphics junkie so I could care less. But it proves that they could have added so much more.

Also, it is to my understanding there is a possibilities of random battles at a battle tower, although I don't know for sure.

Actually no. I bought both import versions and I played through and beat them. There is no random battle tower. I was completely disappointed and now I have to waste time looking for people to give me their friend codes and wait for them to give me theirs.

Like I said, have you even played real online before? Most of the people I played didn't "brag", they were actually quite nice and I made a few friends and we still play online PC games to this date. And and if you want to battle FRIENDS then why do you need the friend code system? You are defending it and making it seem like the best thing since sliced bread. Mostly ever online game won't cost you a thing. Only X-Box live and some MMORPGS.

Well, I have and I love it, CS: S and Unreal 2004, Both awesome games, and there are people that you can chat to and all, but there are some who aren't that nice online and just annoy you, like singing online.

You also say that it's not filled with gloater's yet you want it to have random battles so you can brag about you winning. Now most online gamers dislike people rubbing it in their face, and I know people do this, maybe you just haven't ran into people like that yet.

Yeah, It does, it's like comparing a comedy movie to a horror, it's just not possible to compare pokemon to Halo 3, and Unreal.

    Actually I do.

Well then, I apologize for my rudeness.

They got lazy with the graphics since they didn't change much. But I'm not a graphics junkie so I could care less. But it proves that they could have added so much more.

Yeah, you can't really get lazy with the NDS graphics, this is because they aren't the best, and you may say MPH was good graphics, but they had to scrap alot of extra's just to get it to run well, By extra's I mean alot of individual enemies, instead of like 30.

Actually no. I bought both import versions and I played through and beat them. There is no random battle tower. I was completely disappointed and now I have to waste time looking for people to give me their friend codes and wait for them to give me theirs.

    Aww, Dammit, that's soo disapointing.

I know as I stated above, Yes I do play games online, but what I meant about costs was basically to do with the GBA and what was required to trade on them. Anyway, lol I love that phrase, Well I may stick up for them because IMO I think they are good, And we both are entitled to our opinions, There is one thing I still dislike about them it is that you can only have a set amount, which is really, really small (32)

And yes I want to battle friends, But they are too far away. So that's why I like the FC system, I can connect to their FC through Wi-Fi and still battle them without having to go to their house or not.

Just a question though, as you have the game, can you talk over Wi-Fi in D/P?

OK I am very dissapointed with the FC ONLY system in pokemon D&P , actually I hate the whole FC system and don't like the Nintendo online system eighther. this is nintendo's fault , when I went to E3 in 0'4

You are wrong, wrong and wrong. Pokémon D/P will NOT be enforced to Friend Codes, and random arrangement features are in it, whether you believe it or not. This is a Pokémon game for Christ's sake, not a full-fledged RPG or even MMO. Do NOT compare it with U3 or Halo.

So you like the FC system due to the fact that you're afraid of someone "gloating" in your face? I bet you haven't even played a real online game because if you did then you would know that it's not just filled with "gloaters" as you like to put it.

...What online game have YOU been playing? ANY online game you play with voice chat will have people like that. I don't care WHAT you, a single individual, say. It's a fact of life.

It doesn't matter if it's a game about killing other people or if it's a game where there is no violence at all. For example: FF Chocobo Tales (which looks like pokemon) does not require friend code to play online. If it were up to Nintendo then Chocobo Tales would have been friend code only. Thank god it wasn't.

......Again, wrong...of course it matters. Would you compare Halo to Final Fantasy on terms of gameplay? No, because there isn't really a common ground.

    Actually I do.

I'm just going to point at the site you got this from and leave it at that.

They got lazy with the graphics since they didn't change much. But I'm not a graphics junkie so I could care less. But it proves that they could have added so much more.

You haven't looked, then. Unless you don't consider the ENTIRE overworld much

Actually no. I bought both import versions and I played through and beat them. There is no random battle tower. I was completely disappointed and now I have to waste time looking for people to give me their friend codes and wait for them to give me theirs.

YES THERE IS. In the Battle Tower, you play against teams from random people online. This has been said before.

Like I said, have you even played real online before? Most of the people I played didn't "brag", they were actually quite nice and I made a few friends and we still play online PC games to this date. Oy, some people...

First off, as I already said, most people in online games will NOT act like you say. They WILL start insulting you and using terms like "n00b" if given the chance (look at places like YouTube if you want evidence of that). Second, we need the FC system to battle friends because there are a lot of people on the planet, and without a set way to connect directly the chances of connecting with your friends is very slim.

That last line is pretty cute, though. "Only X-Box live and some MMORPGS"...I do believe that's all of them :)

Sounds to me like you're just trying to flame it any way you can. Probably why your account isn't complete yet, either...

So why are you defending Pokemon's online system then? You can voice chat and do the same thing if you add people you don't know to your friend code. The only people who get called "n00bs" are the ones that get their ass kicked online. Seems to me you have a lot of experience with being called a "n00b" since you fear real online gaming.

Second, we need the FC system to battle friends because there are a lot of people on the planet, and without a set way to connect directly the chances of connecting with your friends is very slim....

That is bullcrap and you know it. It's much easier to add friends on a PC game rather than adding their 12 digit code. On PC all you have to do is enter their name and add them, that's it. So your above paragraph is just you being a fanboy and not admitting that friend codes suck. If Pokemon had no friend codes I bet you'd be gloating about it all over. Just like I see people gloating about how "POKEMON D AND P HAVE VOICE CHAT!!1".

That last line is pretty cute, though. "Only X-Box live and some MMORPGS"...I do believe that's all of them :)....

What your parents won't let you get X-Box live? :(

Sounds to me like you're just trying to flame it any way you can. Probably why your account isn't complete yet, either...

You call this topic "flaming"? I just pointed out why I think the friend code system is flawed. I even own the damn pokemon games! There are a lot more people who hate the FC system, even a lot of Nintendo followers. I dare you to make a topic on Gamespot praising the friend code system over PC, PS3, and X-Box Live and see all the "Friendly" responses you get. If you don't do it it's because you're afraid you will get owned.

I'm not afraid to speak my mind unlike some people here. It seems you're the one trying to flame. Did I hurt your feelings or what? The only reason I came here in the first place was to exchange friend codes but it seems we can't even do that here. And that's another reason why I hate Friend Codes. I guess they're afraid the kids are gonna get kidnapped or something...

Nintendo we want real online pokemon games!

I support you in this, I can't stand that damm FC. It gets pretty boring having the same person come into your Animal Crossing Town, y'know what I mean. Anyway, the FC needs to go, it completly ruins the online capability of many games, Mario Cart, Animal Crossing, Nintedogs, and soon to be, Pokemon >_<. I wish I could go right up to the president of Pokemon and punch him right in the nose, for this stupid "connectivity" idea of his.

I also saw E3 that year, and when he said that I just sat on the couch with probably the most stupid look on my face. Online and connectivity are almost, if not the same, but in figure of speech, I don't want and like his so called "connectivity"!

I have no problem with the graphics, the're original and better looking. I don't think that they slacked on them, I just think they wanted to keep the originality of the game franchise.

Also for the person who said that you cannot compare two games with such huge differences, like Halo and Pokemon, well yes you can. We are not comparing the the action, or bla bla blaa, we are comparing the online differences, which the're huge differences. Like on Halo, you can play with anybody that is online, but if you play Pokemon online, you cannot battle with anybody online that does not have your FC, and vice versa. See, I just compared the two. And the outcome in my opinion is that Halo 2, or so to speek, Microsoft, has better online features.

Finally someone who's not afraid to speak their mind! I feel the EXACT way you do. Iwata was the one who said "gamers don't want online, they want connectivity" and boy was he wrong. That's why the gamecube came in last place last gen. Lack of online support. Hopefully Nintendo will scrap this friend code system altogether. I'm waiting for an update that says "update your wii to remove your Wii codes and finally get into REAL online gaming". If Smash Bros. Brawl is friend codes only I will never buy a Nintendo online game ever again.

Oh and to Ichapokemr since I know you won't make the topic at gamespot I have done it for you and 99 percent agree with what I have to say. See for yourself...

And to Captain Arcane: You seem to have a good head on your shoulders. Just ignore anyone who bashes you just because you hate the friend code system. They are just blind fanboys who can't handle the truth.

Yeah, you can voice chat, but you only battle friends who don't be a**holes over it. So you probably get your fair share of being called a noob I guess?

When did he say that he was afraid of playing online games?

That is bullcrap and you know it. It's much easier to add friends on a PC game rather than adding their 12 digit code. On PC all you have to do is enter their name and add them, that's it. His comment had nothing to do with a PC, maybe you need to learn to read, He said:

"Second, we need the FC system to battle friends because there are a lot of people on the planet, and without a set way to connect directly the chances of connecting with your friends is very slim...."

I'll translate that to a simple version so that you may understand: The FC system was made specially to find your FRIENDS, here's an example, I want to battle person A and I'm person B now lets say there are 1,000,000 people online, So I have a 1 in 1mil chance to be able to battle my friend, With the FC I can contact him directly.

You call this topic "flaming"? I just pointed out why I think the friend code system is flawed. I even own the damn pokemon games! I just don't see how he'll get owned, also he never said it was better than the PC, you keep putting words in people's mouths, He said that it was a good system.

I'm not afraid to speak my mind unlike some people here. It seems you're the one trying to flame. Did I hurt your feelings or what? The only reason I came here in the first place was to exchange friend codes but it seems we can't even do that here. And that's another reason why I hate Friend Codes. How will kids get kidnapped?!

If he was flaming he would have insulted you, he commented on his opinion. How would you not liking the FC system hurt his feelings? Because he'll totally give up in life just because you hate the FC system[/sarcasm]

And you can trade friend codes, you do it through something called PM, but I guess no-one will want to be your friend knowing that you will insult them if you win.

I was just doing some research on the new Halo 3 multiplayer addition, there was one thing that you should have a look at:

"A new feature dubbed the "A-hole button" will be used to mute players in the game"

Now, I wonder why they decided to ad this?

So let's get the idea straight - how is the friend code system becoming a burden to the success of Diamond and Pearl? It hasn't released in the 'States yet, and in Japan, it's sold much more than a Pokémon game even at launch. And its sales figures still are high.

Even so, what burden does the Friend Code system utilised by the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection give to these games? Most of your arguments are largely irrelevant to how Diamond and Pearl work. Instead, your argument seems to contest the Wi-Fi based abilities of the games - there is a forum for that on PC - "Other Games".

How can Pokémon have "real online"? The idea of the Battle Tower exists - there's no live online battle, but you're able to download a set of people, CPU-controlled, to battle against. Why would you want otherwise? To search for players on your level and skill would take quite a bit of time and DS power, so the download system is adequate.

You bring up the idea of graphics, too. They've been changed significantly, if you haven't noticed. What does that have to do with the internet, however?

Most of the things debated upon have been said so far. I have no comments except for your responses to mine.

Y'know, if Nintendo would just change the whole friend code thing into a friend list, it would be way better and funner to play online. And by friend list, I mean listing people who you met online, or friends met by searching for there online address.(online name, or whatever) Well, they could keep the FC, for identification reasons, but they shouldn't make that the peoples only means of online play.

I'm with Paranoai and Ichapokemr on this one.

That is bullcrap and you know it. It's much easier to add friends on a PC game rather than adding their 12 digit code. On PC all you have to do is enter their name and add them, that's it.
Okay, let's get this strait: How many people are gouing to be playing Pokemon? Lots. How many people are just going to name thier player Dawn or Hikari, or even somthing like Summer? Lots.
So, having a 12-digit FC acctualy works better. So what if you have to spend a little while putting it in?

Look around this forum, there's like 40 people on at once - and I bet when Pokemon D/P is released in America they'll put in an 'Online Battling' Forum. And ALOT of people wll want to play online. Alot.

And also, think about it - do you really want to simply engage in battle with some person you don't even know? They could be a hacker, they could be using Arceus - and then who would be the
    n00b?

    I don't see what the problem is. I mean, it takes fifteen seconds to type in a friend code. Are you people that lazy? <.<;

I agree with the first post (member name?) partly.

Its abit stupid that you have to have friend codes to play REAL people. There should be a "random" battle mode like there is on PBR except you can choose what level you want to be maximum, abit like the Battle Frontier.

If you add someone you dont know's friend code, it makes me not want to do that because I'll be talking with someone I dunno. And I'm pretty shy. I'd definately use it if you could turn off your voice chat.

Its because I dont have any real life friends who are going to have this game >.<

You said everything that was needed, if there is a chat function, and someone is a real pain in the neck, why not create a "turn off chat function" option in the menu?

About the friend codes, they are much better than a normal on-line game´s, because of the names problems.

I just recomend Nintendo to WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back in the SNES era, Nintendo don´t wanted to create a Mortal Kombat game to the SNES because of the violence shown in it, but when Sega released a MK game for it´s Genesis, Nintendo saw the tremendous success of the game in the Genesis, and started to produce lots of MK games to the SNES.

Nintendo really is afraid to take risks, but becuse of that, THEY DO EVERY STUPID THING THEY SHOULDN´T DO.
(like naming REVOLUTION , such a cool name, to Wii...)

I personally love they use the FC system, it does protect us from going on WiFi and randomly being bombarded with hundreds of invites from idiots that just want to show off their hacked pokemon...

I'd rather talk to someone before I battle with them anyways :/

So why are you defending Pokemon's online system then? You can voice chat and do the same thing if you add people you don't know to your friend code. The only people who get called "n00bs" are the ones that get their ass kicked online. [S-HIGHLIGHT]Seems to me you have a lot of experience with being called a "n00b" since you fear real online gaming.[/S-HIGHLIGHT]

"Real" online gaming...? Yeah, I guess you're partly right. I AM afraid of "real" online gaming insomuch as how much your idea of it ruins most games and how much I don't want something like that to ruin Pokemon. Otherwise, you're WAY off.

That is [S-HIGHLIGHT]bullcrap[/S-HIGHLIGHT] and you know it. It's much easier to add friends on a PC game rather than adding their 12 digit code. On PC all you have to do is enter their name and add them, that's it. [S-HIGHLIGHT]So your above paragraph is just you being a fanboy and not admitting that friend codes suck[/S-HIGHLIGHT]. If Pokemon had no friend codes I bet you'd be gloating about it all over. Just like I see people gloating about how "POKEMON D AND P HAVE VOICE CHAT!!1".

    I see...you can't read.

What your parents won't let you get X-Box live? :(

    That has to do with...what?

You call this topic "flaming"? I just pointed out why I think the friend code system is flawed. I even own the [S-HIGHLIGHT]damn[/S-HIGHLIGHT] pokemon games! There are a lot more people who hate the FC system, even a lot of Nintendo followers. I dare you to make a topic on Gamespot praising the friend code system over PC, PS3, and X-Box Live and see all the "Friendly" responses you get. [S-HIGHLIGHT]If you don't do it it's because you're afraid you will get owned.[/S-HIGHLIGHT]

...Gamespot? You mean one of those generic video game forums full of crazed fanboys flaming...each...other........OH. NOW I see why you're acting this way!

I'm not afraid to speak my mind unlike some people here. It seems you're the one trying to flame. Did I hurt your feelings or what? The only reason I came here in the first place was to exchange friend codes but it seems we can't even do that here. [S-HIGHLIGHT]And that's another reason why I hate Friend Codes.[/S-HIGHLIGHT] I guess they're afraid the kids are gonna get kidnapped or something...

...Yup, sounds like a flaming rant to me. I even highlighted some of the more obvious parts where you're trying to flame (and where you're using inappropriate language). And Paranoia covered everything I missed, so...

Go ahead and reply. I don't care. I can see where you're trying to take this, and I'm done.

    1. Noobs are also people who are seriously annoying or is a pain in the ass/neck

WTF Does that have to do with anything?

HMPH! Last time I logged on to Gamespot forums there were tons of threads with flamings

I'm not afraid to speak my mind unlike some people here. It seems you're the one trying to flame. Did I hurt your feelings or what? It's true , they're afraid that kids might meet with a strange person online. And that person could hack the DS through ONLINE.Exactly how they can find out their location and I would thank the heavens if he didn't just go into that kid/person's house in the middle of the night and snatched him up. Trust me , online can be dangerous like that. FCs are a big thing since it helps us protect us children or somebody else's children.

pokemon , you are pretty n00bish and foolish in many ways and I can understand that you are denying the fact that you're flaming (whether you know or not) and I understand that you are a user on Gamespot Forums. Post a list of threads(from GS forums) on this thread and tell me how many are flaming and how many are not. I dare you too!
