This is my first real topic posted here, so please bear with me.

I was wondering if any of you remember the feature from Yellow where Pikachu would follow you around and sometimes get upset/happy. I always wished they had kept and redeveloped the feature, to make the game more interactive and to make an opportunity to have more of a 1 on 1 relationship with your pokemon. The feature seemed to have disappeared once Red and Blue came around, though. Your opinion?

This was one of the aspects of Yellow that made me want to keep playing it, and keep the version for all these years. It really makes the game a lot more enjoyable and was expecting to see that with just about every other game that would later come, but as we all know, that didn't happen.

In my opinion, Yellow version was based on the series, more than anything else and wanted people to encorperate all aspects of the series and play it on the game. So, they probably later decided that players would be better off without that. Pokemon, as far as I remember, are supposed to be in their Pokeball. So they probably wanted to keep that "rule" in the later games. Anyway, these are just theorys as to why they had taken that neat function out of the games.

I'd like to have that in my game. Actually, I'm sure someone could actually make a rom hack with that feature in it, eventually. So I'll be waiting patiently for that to happen. XD

Yeah, imagine if you could have your starter pokemon walking around with you? I think it would personalize the game a lot more. Glad to know someone agrees with me on this one. Thank you for your reply. :D

Nitpick: Red and Blue came before Yellow.

Anyway -- and forgive me if my arguments sound a little scattered -- it's a neat feature that would've made things more convenient than finding a certain house and talking to a woman to figure out whether or not your Pokemon loves you (in GSC and RSE, at least, given the fact that those games actually have happiness-induced evolutions), but it's not really something I felt was particularly vital. It was nice, but as lettursnumbers pointed out, it was a feature put in because Yellow was based on the television show -- meaning the entire point of the game was to see what it was like to be Ash, right down to the outside-of-the-ball Pikachu. So, I really didn't think too much about it at first because I just felt all it was was wish fulfillment for the anime fans. Not that that's a bad thing, really. (That and I kinda wanted a Raichu and couldn't trade at the time, which made the Pikachu thing a little grating to me.) If we got to choose what Pokemon followed us, that would be cool. On the other hand, it would also mean hundreds of other sprites, which in turn means the game would require more room (which I don't think the earlier cartridges had).

DP tried to bring back the idea with Amity Square, but even then, there's barely anything to do in that park except walk around and wait for your Pokemon to pick up an item. On top of that, the number of Pokemon (anything that would be called "cute," which really eliminates a ton of Pokemon that could probably fit this category) just narrows the choices down. Space isn't even an issue here in this case, given the fact that a DS game card can really store a lot more information than its predecessor on the Gameboy Pocket (i.e. Yellow). Point is, if fans wanted it, it's probably possible to have a wider range of Pokemon following the trainer around.

Would I personally want it? To tell you the truth, I'm sort of indifferent about it. It depends on what later games would've done with it, really. As I've said before, it's cute but not vital to gameplay, and when it was brought back (in a sense), it was a fairly boring feature. Personally, as I've said before, if you got to customize (not talking about having a starter follow you around because there's a lot of other Pokemon I'd like to see trailing behind me), then maybe it might be cool, but if you didn't the way you couldn't in Yellow and you pretty much couldn't in DP, then it really doesn't add anything to the games for me, even personalizing it. But that's just my view.

I'd like it back yeah, sure, there's lots they could do. There are howether much bigger gripes i have with this wanderfull series of RPG's though :P

I wish they would do that for the 3rd game of the 4th generation. But I really loved this idea and it was awesome

I wish they had made Amity Square a bit bigger in the game. *shrugs* And there were more pokemon categorized as 'cute'.

I did like the fact my pikachu followed me around at the time, because pokemon was all still new and it was SO COOL to have Pikachu walk at my side XP

I'm not particularly bothered but its not something I'd dislike seeing again. I'd prefer to pick anyone to walk by my side than just my starter.

Pokemon yellow was largely based on the anime:
*Pikachu refused to go in its pokeball
*Starters are given to you rather than caught
*Jesse and James are brought in

So yeah, the feature's return isnt likely. It was a relatively small feature that was hardly noticed by some, me included. It's not worth the time programming, unless they do a fully-blown anime spin-off game.

I don't know why people are so crazed about it. I didn't even use Pikachu in the game (Magneton or Electrabuzz were far more appealing) The only features I liked about Yellow were the starters and the better sprites.
