general ev question

why bother giving a pokemon 4ev points in one stat?
i look around here and i see people saying "give so-and-so 252 on this one, 252 on this one and 4 on this"
it seems pointless to me
or am i missing something?

1 stat increase (at LV100) = 4 EV points, but then when you put 252 EV's in 2 stats, you get left over with 6 EV points...

So why waste it when you can put it into a third stat?

(Obviously when I mean 6 left over, only 4 points is actually useful for the Pokemon. The leftover 2 points does nothing to the stat.)

It is, but 255 can't be divided 4 now can it? So basically, if you do put 255 into one stat, you are wasting 3 points (which then can be combined with another 3 points and put into the third stat for some usefulness.)

I think 156HP/252Atk/104Spd is just another little mistake. A small careless mistake made through miscalculation.

Either that or a Smogon conspiracy.
