General New Users / Welcome Rules & Links

These should be read by anyone who plans to post in this area, and not just by those who have only recently joined. It's come to our attention that older users seem to void reading the NU / W rules and updates on it, just because they're not new. However, the rules in this area need to be followed by everyone who posts in it, not just newbies. So this is for everyone to read; even if you joined in 2004, if you plan to post here and welcome others, it's suggested that you give these a read through.

    → Follow all PokeCommunity Rules
The general community rules still apply in this area, so remember to be mindful of them when posting. If you're not sure exactly what they are, you can read them right here.

→ Only post in a welcome/intro thread ONE TIME (Unless you're the thread creator)
Posting more than once in someone's introduction results in going off-topic, thus is considered SPAM. If you want to continue a conversation or help someone out, just send them a private message/VM. The only way this rule is lifted is if you're the thread's creator. If that's the case then you can post in it as many times as you want. I wanna clear this up - this does not mean that you're only allowed to post in the NU / W once, just people's intro threads. You can welcome as many people as you want to.

→ Don't create an alt account and make a thread pretending to be new
Having alt accounts (other accounts besides your original) is perfectly fine, but people should still be able to know that account belongs to an older user. That being said, it is not okay to make an alt account and pretend it's someone other than yourself. If an alt account has made an introduction thread, it will be closed. (Staff can view IP addresses, so it's easy to tell an alt from a newbie.)

→ If you're switching to a new account, DON'T make a new intro thread for it.
Now that name changes are gone, people might be tempted to make other accounts to get a username that they want. That's all fine and well, but if you're planning to make one of those new accounts into your main account, it doesn't need an introduction thread. You've already been a member here, and people already know you. If you wanna let friends know that you're switching accounts, then do it through VMs/PMs/MSN/whatever. No makey intro thread for that, guys. <3

    → Don't Copy & Paste your welcomes
This is disrespectful to new members, as they can look at other intro threads, and seeing the same Welcome message over and over would lead them to think that you don't want to take the time to personally welcome them. This area is here to welcome the new members, not to increase your post count. If you're caught doing this you can & will be given infraction points for it, along with said posts being deleted. If you're new, you will be warned one time, and only once.

→ Do not create generic welcomes
Since so many people seem to believe NU/W is a board mainly used to increase your post count, we're cracking down on what is an acceptable welcome. Many of you who frequent ROM Hacking should be aware of this, but for those of you who do not, all of your welcomes must now be unique - both from your own posts, and from those of other members. Basically, "Welcome to the forum, [insert name]. Have fun," isn't gonna fly anymore, and if it doesn't seem like you've even read the introduction you're replying to, your post is gonna get deleted. Please make note of this.

    → Silently report threads/posts instead of posting in-thread. (Mini-Modding)
See someone who's breaking a rule? The best thing to do in that situation is to find and use the Report button. (

    or

) This is a way to let the staff know someone is rule breaking, without playing the hero and stating in-thread that they shouldn't be doing that. That job belongs to the area's mods, so please leave it to them.~

→ Returning from a ban? Don't make a 'welcome back' thread.
Simple as that. If you've been banned from PC, then that was a punishment for doing something wrong, and as such you should not be given the privilege to make a returning thread. You may let other members know that you'll be back around by posting in the Leave of Absence thread, but do not state your ban reason.

→ Do not make a Welcome thread if you've been a member for over two months.
Introduction topics should not be created if you've already been a member on PC for two months, or more. Honestly, it's advised that you make a thread before even one month passes, but any longer than two, and you're thread will be locked. That should definitely be more than enough time.
