I took Sprites of the Bulbasaur line from Pokemon Platinum and recoloured them to make a Grass/Fire type variant. This is my first time changing or editing a sprite, I used paint not knowing the trouble I would encounter I don't have Photoshop so MS Paint was the next best alternative.

Every time I try to write a sprite back to the narc file, the sprite creates an error.

see the picture attached to view the error.

What do I need to do to resolve this?

What you're missing is the palette order. The background color must also be the first color in the palette. Off the top of my head -it's late- I can't think of a program to do that with if you don't have Photoshop.
