The Digital Retribution series is a far-reaching prequel of the anime, and will stay true in relation to the movies. Events up until the defeat of Diablomon and, consequently, Armageddomon the second time in the movies will be taken into account, as 02 and its fanfiction sequel Justified Lunacy noted those events' relations with the series. With that, enjoy the prologue of the Digital Retribution's first story, Genesis of the DigiSoul. Please read & review.
Disclaimer: I do not own Digimon or Digimon World 2 & 3. The idea for the Chaos Generals came from Digimon World 2, while the names such as Asuka City and the others are derived from those featured in Digimon World 3. This story is rated M.
Genesis of the DigiSoul
Prologue: The Beginning
A year before the War of Origins...
A Dark Age had befallen the Digital World. After four Digimon appeared in the sky of the Digital World, everything had taken a drastic change. It was the last moment when the Digital World could experience tranquility and harmony. With the emergence of the four beings from the Wall of Fire, a new era had begun, starting with the downfall of the Holy Beasts at the hands of these four Digimon. Together, these Digimon were known as the Chaos Lords.
Over the months that had passed, the situation grew more and more precarious. But before the four main guardians of the Digital World had been sealed away by the Chaos Generals, three Ultimate levels who had powers unrivalled by any other Ultimate Digimon, they chose seven artificial Digimon who became real, living creatures that fought alongside their humans who had been selected by fate to save the Digital World.
The Holy Beasts had had only one choice left. They had known that this would happen someday, during the times when all seemed lost. Seven humans from another world, known as the real world, a world parallel with their own world itself, would be summoned to the Digital World to stop the evil. Partnering themselves with the artificial Digimon, this group of Chosen Children, as they were known in the ancient prophecy uncovered by the Harmonious Ones, had the power to evolve their partner Digimon to their highest evolutionary levels. Being partnered to these Chosen Children, the Digimon would precede even their own kinds and with enough training and experience they would rival even the Harmonious Ones themselves.
Decisions were made, although one of the main four at first opposed the idea of bringing over unknown beings to their world. The Chaos Lords was a fine example of that. However, the remaining three guardians convinced the other that it was the only way to restore the peace of the Digital World. The prophecy of the First Ones had precisely mentioned that, and the knowledge was passed only to the four of them, as the ones governing the Digital World. Finally, the dissenter relented to the majority and the final part of the prophecy was fulfilled.
A legacy was born from that day forth. The Legacy of the Chosen Children.
Six months of chaos had passed in the Digital World.
...
The place where the Chosen were at, an atrocious castle in the middle of a bottomless crater, was void of all living creatures; except for seven teenagers, their Digimon partners and their opposition. The castle was known as the Dreaded Bastion and was the headquarters of Chaosdramon and the Chaos Generals.
Shouts could be heard and the sounds of fighting broke the deathly silence that usually prevailed in this area.
"Haguro!" A hulking black avian figure soared through the skies after calling out the name of his technique. Coated in darkness, he was a great bird with raven-coloured feathers tipped with violet. The armour coating his beak and face was gold and so were the pestles mounted on his wings. But the most peculiar feature the bird had was the fact that he had three legs instead of two.
Yatagaramon, Fujimoto Taro's partner, flapped his wings, releasing a wave of black light which blanketed the surrounding sky in night-like darkness. The attack gave Yatagaramon the advantage of stealth within the darkness; with this technique his opponent would never see him coming. Yatagaramon's black feathers would blend nicely with the darkness, too.
Chaosdramon towered over the Perfect levels, his height rising above them and even over the top of one of the outposts. His body was red with grey parts, and was heavily armoured with strong red metal. Powerful cannons similar to those of a Mugendramon's were seen perched on his back. Strong crunchers adorned his hands as claws, and his face bore a slight resemblance to his previous form, but with a sharp horn on his snout.
MachGaogamon, Ishida Kaori's partner, attempted to punch Chaosdramon at the back of his head but, to his surprise, found that his Chrome Digizoid fist cracked. MachGaogamon was a humanoid canine Digimon with blue fur. Clearly masculine, he was the tallest of the six good Digimon. He wore a black pants and a red championship belt was slung at his torso. His eyes were obscured by a pair of dark shades.
Chaosdramon whirled around lightly, a near-impossible thing to execute considering his bulk and grabbed the Perfect level canine by the neck and slammed him into the ground. "Kekeke! If you think that's going to stop me from eliminating you, think again! Destroyed Hook!" Chaosdramon shot an organic missile from his right hand, which would inject a lethal virus into his victim.
"NO!" Kaori screamed, a broken, desolate sound. She moved from Taro's side as swiftly as she could and ran, placing herself in the oncoming path of the missile. She let out a pained grunt when the missile struck and staggered backwards, before collapsing to the ground.
"Kaori!" Everyone cried out in despair.
"With its forceps made of red Digizoid, it'll inject the virus through your wound. It'll melt you from each body cell. You'll become human soup!" Chaosdramon gloated.
Three Digimon waited further back, towards the entrance of the roof. All were in their Ultimate forms, and all were pretty famous. One was a WarGreymon, but looked more like a BlackWarGreymon, although there were some differences in terms of colour, while the other was a Piedmon. Both were mostly black-and-white in colour, with the WarGreymon having his breastplate in gold, and the Piedmon had red sashes. A MetalSeadramon was seen curled behind them. He had blue armour instead of the usual gold which normal MetalSeadramon have.
WarGreymon, Piemon and MetalSeadramon were the Chaos Generals. Their names were actually Chaos Greymon, Chaos Piemon and Chaos Seadramon. Each one of them had the power far beyond a normal Ultimate.
"Show off," Chaos Seadramon snorted.
Chaos Piemon glared at the Digimon who supposedly lead them. "You may have stolen the spotlight now, Chaosdramon, but the show is far from over."
Chaos Greymon cocked his head at the other two. "Could you two do any better?"
Taro and the rest of his team-mates gathered around the weakening seventeen-year-old Kaori. Murmurings of "Why did you do it, Kaori?", "She's going to die, isn't she?" and "Kaori-chan was brave." were heard from the others.
Kaori plunged her hands into her pockets and pulled out her Digivice iC. "Masaru-kun!" The boy caught it and stared at her with a broken gaze. Kaori managed a weak, broken smile. "Gaomon's yours now. Take good care... of each other... I'm ready, Yggdrasil!" The battle had cost Kaori her life, she knew for sure. If she were to return to the human world, she'd surely die. So she offered her body to Yggdrasil, since he had been observing the battle the whole time, telling him that she would spend the rest of her days in the Digital World. Not long after that, she died, Yggdrasil entered Kaori's body and would last for many decades to come.
