Hi!
I saw a question in the discord server about 24 hours ago about breeding mechanics, and after answering it with a wild assumption, I decided to look into something. The question was:
I know that in this day and age, with current games, it saves time to just make a pokémon have max IVs through different means, such as using Bottlecaps. But ignore that for the sake of the question!
I said it was easier to get an egg with maxed 6 IVs if both parents have the same 5 stats with max IVs. I think I was wrong!
Now, I always try to understand why I might be wrong about something like this. I made this discovery after generating possible combos and looking over the statistics:
If the parents each have five perfect IVs and you breed them with a Destiny Knot, you are twice as likely to get an egg with six naturally perfect IVs when the parents share all but one max IV stat.
So it's in your best interest, after gen 6, to breed with this in mind!
Feel free point out anything that might add onto this or contradict it! I included some more detailed results in the spoiler below.
There is a ~0.54% chance to get 6 perfect IVs by hatching eggs and rolling for IVs with 5 IV max parents that share the same stats with perfect IVs. You're also much, much more likely to get eggs that have fewer maxed IVs than the parents!
11,904 possible unique IV combos
3 maxed IVs: 0 unique IV combos, 0.0% chance
4 maxed IVs: 9,600 unique IV combos, 80.6% chance
5 maxed IVs: 2,240 unique IV combos, 18.8% chance
6 maxed IVs: 64 unique IV combos, 0.54% chance
There is a ~1.08% chance to get 6 perfect IVs by hatching eggs and rolling for IVs with 5 IV max parents that have one stat with a perfect IV that the other parent doesn't. You're also going to get eggs that have at least 5 max IVs over a third of the time!
11,904 possible unique IV combos
3 maxed IVs: 1,920 unique IV combos, 16.1% chance
4 maxed IVs: 5,824 unique IV combos, 48.9% chance
5 maxed IVs: 4,032 unique IV combos, 33.9% chance
6 maxed IVs: 128 unique IV combos, 1.08% chance

question about breeding. when breeding with Destiny knot for a 6x31 pokemon. do i have both parents be 5x31 same or 5x31 different?
