The Official Goldenrod City Battle Tournament​

The people of Goldenrod have spoken and it is time for the next battle tournament to arise. This is a chance for the next generation of Pokemon trainers to show the world what they've got, to walk it like most of them supposedly talk it. The competition is open to all trainers above the age of fourteen and all Pokemon besides the species listed below. The only requirement is that trainers hold a minimum of eight official Pokemon gym badges. Application forms to be submitted at the Goldenrod City Pokemon Center. Late entries will be considered.​

Battle is what we do best so let the tournament begin!​

Your Job: As a beginning trainer, you will travel around the region of Johto, collecting your eight badges to qualify for the Official Goldenrod City Battle Tournament which will take place in several months time. It won't be an easy job, catching and raising Pokemon and collecting the badges in time to register for this prestigious event. Can you do it and prove to yourself and the people of Johto that you've got what it takes?​

1. Is it going to follow the plot as the games? (i.e., catching Shiny red Gyarados, getting a Togepi with Extrasensory, Team Rocket coming back)

Thanks for the questions :) Now to answer them...

1. Will the gym leaders be the same that we're used to?
   Yes, the Johto gym leaders will all appear in this RPG.
2. How do we obtain our Pokemon?
   Like all beginning trainers, you will receive your starters from Professor Elm in New Bark Town. This does mean your character will have to make their way to this small town to start their journey. Or maybe they already live there..
3. What does 'All Pokemon besides the species listed below' mean?
   This is my mistake, please do ignore it. This RPG was originally going to be a fanfic. 'Species listed below' is meant to refer to legendaries.
4. Is it going to follow the same plot as the games?
   Whilst the games have a huge impact on the storyline, this RPG will not follow the games to the 'T', so to speak. For example, there will not be a red Gyarados waiting in the Lake of Rage for each of you to capture. That is highly unrealistic, so to speak.
5. Could you have a friend Pokemon and use that instead of the starter listed?
   In one word, no. Unless you write a super awesome SU and convince me otherwise. But now, the answer is no.

As her name would suggest, Amber has a pair of beautiful Amber-colored eyes, her skin is faint, but with a little color from the Sun, her hair is strawberry-blonde, long and straight, and it reaches past her shoulder when she leaves it down, although ponytails seem to do the trick for her. She has a few freckles on her nose, and a chipped tooth from falling down as a small girl, although to be perfectly honest, these features only further showcase a kind of tomboyish charm not seen in a lot of girls as girly as her. She is of average height and weight, and a little on the lean side, considering the amount of manual labor she does everyday.

Amber usually wears denim shortalls (overalls, but shorts), with a long-sleeve shirt underneath. She (as stated previously) holds her hair up in a ponytail, and tends to wear a pair of rubber boots when working with her Pokémon, although she also owns several pairs of sneakers. She has a one-strap yellow backpack in which she holds her stuff, and a pair of black leather gloves for when the going gets rough. In her backpack, she also has a white feather jacket with a furry hood, white earmuffs, and black thermal tights for colder weather.​

Personality:

Ever since she was a little girl, Pokémon have proved extremely fascinating to Amber. The curious girl would strain her eyes for hours in order to recognize the physical differences that made members of Pokémon within a species true individuals, and she always thought she'd end up becoming a Pokémon Professor in order to continue studying these creatures. This, of course, changed after she attended her first Breeder's Competition, at which point she decided her dream would be to produce the most beautiful Pokémon in each species possible.

While a little (a lot) impractical in nature, Amber's dream pretty much summarizes exactly who she is: a girl with a lot of imagination, who has faith in herself to belong amongst the greatest. She aims to the stars, and is unyielding in the pursuit of her dream. However, ever since a particular event in her life, the light of happiness that once shone in her eyes has dimmed, and she lives for one reason: to bring whoever it is that wronged her to justice; not of the law's, but her own!​

History:

There are many different types of Pokémon-related occupations in the Pokémon World (as you probably already know), but if there's anything that Amber has ever felt passionate about, it is Pokémon breeding. Then again there are several types of breeders in this world, who focus on different aspects of the trade and tend to have a completely different clientele. There are those whose job is to make others' Pokémon prettier, healthier, even stronger, then again there are those whose job consists of breeding and hatching eggs, a trial and error process through which they intend to produce a Pokémon "perfect" in some aspect, such as an innately stronger or faster Pokémon. Amber aims to be the kind of breeder that will be approached, not by trainers, but by Pokémon coordinators. This is because she wants to dedicate her profession, to producing more visually appealing Pokémon, in any of the five aspects coordinators judge Pokémon, and she intends to be great at it!

Amber has taken many steps with the purpose of reaching this goal, after consulting with Bugsy, Azalea Town's Gym Leader at the young age of 8, she was told to begin by participating in Azalea Town's Bug Catching Contest. Taking the Gym Leader's advice to heart, she began participating in said competition every week as soon as she'd turned ten, quickly making a huge collection of Bug-type Pokémon. Amber later won her first competition at age 13 after catching a giant Caterpie. Soon thereafter she would win again three more times after catching a shiny Caterpie, a female Heracross, and a tough-looking Pinsir. It was shortly after her fifteenth birthday that her prize-winning Heracross and Pinsir would finally give her another prize-winning Pokémon, a male shiny Heracross who outdid some of Johto's finest breeder's Pokémon. However, such pedigree would inevitably catch the attention of the wrong people, sooner than later…​

Amber trembled.

Hastily awakening, she sat up on her bed wrapping herself tightly inside her blanket, shivering, desperately looking for warmth. She could feel cold sweat dripping down her face.

Still under the cover of her blankets, she quickly made her way to her window. Why is it open? She wondered, as she reached outwards to close the windows.

Noting the time, 5:30am, Amber somberly decided to stay up, she usually woke up at 7:00am in order to attend to her Pokémon, but a nice warm bath would be nice beforehand. Quietly walking towards her bathroom, she yawned, and opened her bath's faucet.

The warm water gently caressed her cold fingertips.

Leaving the bath to fill up, Amber walked to the kitchen of her house. Pouring herself a glass of water, she heard something unusual. The noise, hushed by walls, seemed to come from her backyard. Sliding open the glass door that led there, the fluttering of wings immediately overwhelmed her. Here and there, Butterfrees, Beedrills, Ledybas and Ledians flew around hastily, making as much of a buzz as possible for them, other bug Pokémon, such as Venonats, Caterpies, and Weedles rushed randomly in different directions until they ran into some sort of obstacle and changed direction. Throughout the backyard there was chaos, and looking up into the farthest point of the fenced patio, she noticed it.

A room, made entirely out of wood and painted in warm tones of red, magenta, yellow and green. Her father, a lowly carpenter, had built it for her, a mixture between a barn and a greenhouse, specifically designed to house his daughter's collection of Bug Pokémon.

The doors had been broken in!

Quickly, Amber sprinted towards the fallen doors of the shed, and upon reaching them, she was met up by a panicking giant Caterpie (about four times the size of a normal one). The Pokémon, who had earned Amber her first first-place in the Bug Catching Competition, hastily began to pantomime as a person sneaking in somewhere, trying to explain.

It clumsily tiptoed with its ridiculously big feet and a scowl on its face, and in one swift movement, it scooped up Amber's shiny Caterpie next to it, running off in circles as if escaping. As funny as the show could've been on any other day, Amber quickly connected the dots, realizing that she had, in fact, closed her windows the night before…

"Who was it, Goli?" Amber asked her Pokémon alarmed. "Who did they take?"

The Pokémon looked up at his owner, and gave her a powerless look before looking back at two of Amber's other prize-winning Pokémon; a Pinsir and a female Heracross.

"Pinky!" Amber gasped, looking at the couple, and remembering her shiny Heracross; the fruit of her work, the proof of her being an able breeder, but most importantly, her baby… There is no way in Hell she would let this stand!

For weeks, Amber was inconsolable. Her father had contacted the Police Department, and apparently a file had been forwarded to the Global Police as well, but they've had no news since. The kidnappers seemed to have simply disappeared. Poachers, they said. They were trying, they said. The black market is a tricky suspect, they said before a glare from Amber's father reminded the officer not to speak of hopelessness in front of his daughter.

Many times, Amber begged her father to let her search for her Pokémon on her own, but he'd have none of it. "You're not a trainer! Leave this to the professionals!" he'd say.

Finally, one day, as Amber walked around Azalea Town, she stumbled upon a flier for the Official Goldenrod City Battle Tournament, and came upon the realization that while she might not be strong enough yet, she could become strong enough. It was time to take this investigation into her own hands!

Character Information:

Appearance: Raye has long and straight dark green hair that goes down to her waist. She ties it back in a ponytail with a red hair tie to keep it out of her face. She has bright blue eyes, and is slightly near-sighted, but she doesn't really need glasses. She has a fairly average build, not exactly fit, but not heavy, and is slightly short for her height, but doesn't really mind. Her skin is slightly tan from being outdoors often.

She usually wears an orange sleeveless shirt with a white tank top underneath. She also wears khaki shorts when it's warm. When it's colder, she wears a red coat with with white sweats. She always wears her gray sneakers, which are slightly worn from use. She has a shiny yellow watch, that she often forgets to put on her wrist after she has taken it off.

Personality: Raye is a very carefree and laid back person. She is usually in a constant state of contentment, although she can get pretty energetic on rare occasions. She loves to do things at her own pace, and people tend to call her slow. She is a very creative and artsy person, so she will spend much of her time doodling, writing, and singing to herself. She also loves coming up with interesting nicknames.

She loves Pokemon, and has always treated them as her friends since she grew up with them. She is usually happier when with Pokemon instead of people, since people can be full of drama, which she can't stand.

History: She lived in Violet City with her mother, while her father worked at the lab in New Bark. He would let Raye play with his Pokemon all of the time, and as she got older, he let her go out of town and use them in Bug Catching contests and Pokeathlons. She has always wanted her very own Pokemon, but she never complained about it, since she didn't want to be a bother.

Because of a job transfer, they ended up moving to Pewter City. Although it was interesting moving to another region, they didn't have any contests or Pokeathlons, so she didn't have anything to do. Noticing her boredom, her mother suggested that she try out the Gym. Raye wasn't exactly a big battler, but decided that it was worth a shot, and her father encouraged her, since his Pokemon wanted to as well.

So, she challenged the Gym. And failed. So she tried it again. And failed. It took her a few times before she actually got the hang of it. Once she did, she was hooked. She decided to challenge the Cerulean Gym too. It also took her a little while, but she managed to beat it too. However, before she could try any more, they transferred back to Johto. That's when she finally decided, she wanted to take on the Johto Gyms, but this time she'll use her very own Pokemon.

The Wooper nudged Raye out of her doze. She had fallen asleep lying on the grass again. "Oh, hey there, Dewey." She sat up and stretched. "So, what is it?" She yawned.

"Paah~" He motioned towards the house. The scent of the cooking meat could be smelled from where she sat. Her stomach growled.

"Ah, lunch time!" She quickly got up and headed towards the door.

"I want to fight the Johto League, and with my own Pokemon." She said, as soon as she had finished eating.

"Hmm?" Her mother and father looked up at her. They weren't expecting that.

"Well, I really enjoyed fighting those Gyms in Kanto." She began. "But everyone else I met that faced them were using Pokemon they had raised all by themselves, and nothing against your Pokemon, Dad..."

"It's okay, honey. I understand." Her father said, comfortingly. "I know how you feel. There's no experience like training your very own Pokemon." He out out of his seat, to clear his plate. "By the way, I heard from Professor Elm that he was giving out starter Pokemon for people like you that want to start a journey."

"Really?" She said in excitement. "That's awesome!" She jumped up in joy. She was rarely this energetic.

"I was actually planning on getting one for you as a surprise for your birthday, but you might as well get one now, since your birthday isn't for quite a while." He admitted.

"Besides," Her mother piped in. "You wouldn't have time to get ready for this." She held out a flier, wrinkled from being in her pocket. "I heard about it while I was out getting groceries."

"What is this?" She examined the flier. It was advertising a tournament that was going to be held in Goldenrod City in several months. The only requirements were that she had to at least 14, which she was, and have at least eight Gym badges. "This is perfect." She grinned.

"Since you already have two badges-"

"No, I'm going to face all of the Johto Gyms." She interrupted. "Sure, I have two already, but that's because of Dad's Pokemon. I want to earn eight with my Pokemon." She gripped the flyer tightly.

Pleasantly surprised to see his daughter act this way, he put his hand on her shoulder to get her attention. "Why don't you come back with me to the lab in New Bark? If we both are going there for something, we might as well go together." He smiled.

"That sounds like a good idea." She beamed.
