Hey everyone, just registered, and I'm (obviously) looking into learning about hacking these games.

I know a little z80 asm (i was introduced to programming with graphing calculators...so yeah) so I'm not at a complete loss when it comes to hex, pointers, etc.

I'm mainly interested in R/B/Y series; I've seen that most stuff here is Advance Gen focused; are there any quick tutorials for that?

Also, this is probably a very nooby question, but how are the .gb files modified. I've seen lots of "tools" available for download but I can't figure out how you can actually save your changes to the rom itself? Are there any disassemblers available?

    Thanks! :)

Well, for small changes any hexeditor would work perfectly fine (HexWorkshop, Windhex, Hexeccute, etc.).
Since you say you know z80 and are looking for a gameboy assembler, then I'd suggest you RGBDS (that is for windows, but if you work on Linux you can find a Linux version, too).

About RBY documentation: if you look around hard, you should be able to find some interesting stuff, around here (IIMarckus's signature still has many useful links, check it).

You could also think to give a look at new Skeetendo (hax.iimarck.us), since it's focused on RBY-GSC.
