    Hi,
I'm a parent and don't play/collect pokemon cards. My kids (grade 1 and 3) are just now starting to play/collect with their friends.

I bought them two theme decks to start... but they wanted more... so I went online and bought a used lot of about 500 cards of all types (common, uncommon, rare, even an ex) I don't want to give it to them all at once.

    My questions are:
    1) How should I sort the cards?
Since they already have a theme deck each, should I just pull out the uncommon/rare cards for them?

Should I try to identify and sort the cards by 'deck'/'theme'?

    2) Are there any websites you recommend for identifying pokemon cards and the deck it comes from? Right now, I am just googling the name of the pokemon (e.g. Aron) and the # (e.g. 57/101) on the bottom right to identify that this comes from the Black and White Plasma Blast.
But where do I go to find out the rest of the cards in that 'pack'?

    3) So do different decks/packs/themes have different number of cards? Were these cards originally sold as a deck/theme? Or did you have to try and buy/trade to complete them?

    4) I can't imagine why the kids would need 500 pokemon cards, so if I wanted to sell half of them, which half do I select out to sell in one lot?

Thanks! Your response is much appreciated.

You can sort the cards any way you like. Could be sorted by set, by color, by Pokémon family. Up to you.

As for question number 2, you can go on the Bulbapedia web site to identify your cards. Search a Pokémon and on that Pokémon page, try to find the Pokémon name with (TCG) beside it. This will lead you to a page that lists all sets in which this Pokémon was released. You can click on each link to see an image of that Pokémon for that set.

For question 3, a deck usually has 60 cards. Cards might have come from a various number of sources: Theme deck, booster packs, promos, trades.

For question 4, a kid never has enough Pokémon cards. Why would you sell the second half? Unless there are duplicates, and even then, when you build a deck, you may use 4 of each cards.
