    Please guide me Senpai!!

Hello people my name is DarkDragonMeister or D2M and I'm hoping to get into rom hacking. That's why I'm here looking for any advice that anyone might have on the matter.

I'm aiming to ultimately make my own fan game but I want to built up my skills and experience by hacking the past games but I would like to know what to expect as I work on and play them.

So with that out of the way I'll start off with asking for suggestions on the hardware: computer, tablet and gaming device.

-Computer: My current laptop's battery is failing so I'm looking for a new one since a laptop is easier to transport. Can anyone recommend one that has good performance but won't leave me broke or in debt? Something in the 200-500+ range?

-Tablet: A drawing tablet to be more precise. Or if not that then a tablet and stylus/digital pen that will work just as good together as what you'll get from a drawing tablet. I tried using my fingers but that didn't work out and past experiences with using a digital pad didn't go well. And the less said about using the mouse or that touch pad on laptops the better. I need to be holding a something in my hand and see the tip of said item draw something. Same price range as the laptop.

Note: I've eying the Gaomon PD1161. Anyone here ever use it?

-Gaming device: Given the choice I would rather play a Pokemon game in a hand held device that isn't my phone or a tablet. I heard about the EZ Omega cartridge and SD card that lets you play on the GBA and NDS but I'm not sure about buying that. Are there other hand held gaming devices I should be looking into? Or if not what should I know before I try playing a hacked game on GBA or the NDS?

    Software-

Okay so I've heard about that FR Update patch but are there any other downloads I should know about that are not the rom hack tools?

Which hack tools should I use? I've checked that HackingTools site and some have been label [Deprecated], does that meant they're no good anymore or should I still give them a try?

I just want to know which tools to download and avoid downloading the ones that do the same thing. Unless one tool, say to edit Moves, is easier to use then a tool that does multiple things.

I know I can look info on these things in the forums but I prefer asking people who have more experience on this matter before I dive in.

My plan is to try and hack each Gen up to G5 before I try my hand at making my own fan game based in a new region -in the G3 or 4 style- and maybe make a whole different Pokemon based game.

I would really appreciate any kind advice or even being pointed in the right direction that might help me.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and have a good day.

I only know how to hack Gen 3. For that, use these tools: Gen 3 Tools, Hex Maniac Advance, and Advance Map 1.92. For DS hacking, there's a discord for it. You can find a link to it in PokéCommunity's discord.
For Gen 1−2 hacks, there are decomps, but they may be harder to use than other tools.

😅 For ROM hacking, you don't need too high-level hardware. See, I'm using my Intel I5-3550 PC to ROM hack, and it's seamless (on the PC's part at least 😞)

"[Deprecated]" just means it's no longer supported, and/or not updated anymore- but you can still use it if you want to.

https://www.hackromtools.info/hack-tools-gba/ has all the tools you need, and more 😉
